It's really hard to shake the feeling that God is slowly gathering His Own to his bosom, which isn't a great advert for what is about to come ....

RIP - glad I was able to catch him in "Napoleon" in the late 80s. An improvisational tour-de-force.

HerBigChance · 03/11/2020 13:40

A real shame - I liked him very much in all kinds of things and Stella Street was marvellous.

DadDadDad · 03/11/2020 13:40

Heart condition. Aged 67. BBC are reporting now.

GiveItARestJosephine · 03/11/2020 13:43

Very sad news. Condolences to his loved ones.

@DGRossetti - I saw that play and remember how absolutely brilliant it was.

DioneTheDiabolist · 03/11/2020 13:43

RIP John Sessions, I loved you in Porterhouse Blue.Sad

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/11/2020 13:45

Oh no. Not old enough!

DGRossetti · 03/11/2020 13:49

Somewhere, the BBC is sitting on a series from the early 90s of six half hour shows Sessions gave to a live audience - as I recall purely improvised.

There should also somewhere be a recording of "Napoleon" - since I recall watching it with a brilliant riff on a kazoo being "Das Boot" and Sessions doing voices from inside.

I have to correct my PP - it was actually "Napoleon - The American Story" that I saw. Which was a follow on. Had the sublimely brilliant routine of Robert De Niro discovering the joy of panto ("From now on, it's Bobby de Niro ...)

Plus the sheer genius in "Whose Line Is It Anyway ?"

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 03/11/2020 13:52

Just shows how multi-dimensional people can be, doesn't it? A 'remarkable comedian' in support of Nigel Farage...

Chicchicchicchiclana · 03/11/2020 13:56

Ah no that is sad if true! Stella Street was the most brilliant series, I loved it so much. I will still watch it now when in need of cheering up.

Ritascornershop · 03/11/2020 14:00

His episode of Mooneboy was my favourite. RIP.

Gingernaut · 03/11/2020 14:15

Gosh. Was he even 60 yet?

RIP.

DGRossetti · 03/11/2020 14:20

@GroundAlmonds

Gosh. Was he even 60 yet?

RIP.

Surprisingly, 67. But still no age.
FlibbertyGiblets · 03/11/2020 14:20

Ah feck. What an absolute bummer.

Sad
GroundAlmonds · 03/11/2020 14:20

Yes, that’s much too young.

Schonerlebnis · 03/11/2020 15:23

Sadly the link below that one said luis troyano (hopefully spelled right) has also died, he was on gbbo, runner up to nancy in 2014.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 03/11/2020 16:12

Very sad news.

He lived in my area, l saw him on the bus a few times before the first lockdown. I thought he was looking a bit old but then realised so did I (he was about 5 years older than me). I guess I still had a picture in my mind of him during his Whose line is it anyway? days.

RIP John Sessions - a multi talented man.

derxa · 03/11/2020 16:41
