So, did you actually get any trick or treaters last night?

After being adamant we weren’t going to open the door, it wasn’t necessary anyway as no one knocked!

Usually we get quite a few children knocking, so I was surprised.

Either they only knocked on houses with pumpkins (something we all do around here), or there genuinely wasn’t anyone out last night.

How about you?

No none , tier 3 area so it was banned anyway.

We usually have maybe a 100 or so on a normal year. Live on a big estate and people actually drive here to do it.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 01/11/2020 21:03

None and we usually have many. We didn’t bother decorating though as didn’t want people to knock this year. Hopefully next year will be more normal and they can as I did miss it but wasn’t worth the risk taking part nor being put over the rule of six by groups.

DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2020 21:05

None at all here, and it's usually very busy.

No but we don't decorate and quite frankly if anyone had dared to knock on my door after yesterday's announcement, they would have wished to God they hadn't. Just had to cancel my upcoming well longed for break so no, I don't want randomer's touching my property.

Porcupineinwaiting · 01/11/2020 21:12

No trick or treaters. But our community had a Halloween trail which we were part of so we had quite a few families admiring the creepy graveyard dh had constructed in the rockery.

No but we deliberately didn't decorate.

We usual do a bit of a display but not this year.

To be fair in the village everyone is usually pretty respectful of the "no decorations, don't knock" rule.

I did see a few children with adults walking round dressed up but nowhere near as many as usual and that's undersaid (maybe 6 or 7?).

Tbh I'm surprised anyone would want their kids knocking on doors and collecting treats from multiple households it's just a silly risk to take.

We stayed in and put on a scary movie and had a few treats we bought ourselves.

FairlyOddmother · 01/11/2020 21:57

We had one 'reverse' trick or treater - an (adult) neighbour knocked with sweets for the DC. Other neighbour gave me sweets for them in advance.

notso · 01/11/2020 22:03

We didn't have any, although we didn't not had three last year.
My children left sweets on the doorstep of their local friends and we did some games etc at home instead.

PorpoiseSpitGazzette · 01/11/2020 22:47

Some parents organised a treat trail with all pre agreed stops and a known quantity of participants. We usually have quite a few speculative spooks, ne’ery a one knocked here. We normally use the you’re welcome to knock if there is a lit pumpkin at the property arrangement.

EasilyDepleted · 01/11/2020 22:58

A couple of families but we usually get loads. Tier 1 area. We decorated and put wrapped sweets on the outside windowledge, then kept the curtains open so when they knocked we waved and pointed at the sweets rather than opening the door.

VenusClapTrap · 01/11/2020 23:28

We had a few. We were part of a prearranged route just involving kids from the dc’s school bubble. I handed them wrapped bags of sweeties on the end of a long grab.

DreadingSeason2020sFinale · 01/11/2020 23:43

I had made up 50 bags before Halloween was cancelled but then just sat them aside in a sealed box thinking no one would come anyway. I ended up sitting the box on a chair outside for the kids that came round and I spoke through the window to them. I think there were about 25 or so came.

I eventually agreed to let my own kids go to a handful of friend's houses with strict instructions to keep their masks on, stand far back and their sweets have to be put away untouched for 3 days before they're allowed to get them.

KihoBebiluPute · 01/11/2020 23:48

We had one knock. No pumpkins out or anything to suggest we might we might be receptive. I opened the door assuming it could be a parcel delivery. When they said "trick or treat" I just said "not today thank you" and closed the door. Ridiculously irresponsible to do trick or treating in a pandemic and I wouldn't dream of encouraging it.

Newmumma83 · 01/11/2020 23:51

No one knocked but we put goody bags out and lollly pops in our pumpkins head outside ...they all went, we watched them in our door camera .... back up sweets went too ... but we never had contact ... but odd but we didn’t want to answer the door with what’s going on but didn’t want the kids to not have sweets

BiBabbles · 01/11/2020 23:52

Twice, but that's not odd for my area. My kids handled it nicely.

What was odd was someone(s) setting fireworks for hours last night, likely from the nearby industrial estate. I'm used to ten or so minutes at a time - people seem to really like big empty parking lots for this - but it went on from 7 until well after 10, it was so weird.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/11/2020 23:58

No, but we haven't had any trick or treaters come round for a few years now.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/11/2020 23:59

All the haribo pegged out on the tree went in about half an hour.

DS2 went around the block and came back laden with sweets that were put out. Mainly from his classmate's houses.

Dillydallyingthrough · 02/11/2020 00:07

We normally hand out a ridiculous number of sweets. We had one knock, we left sweets out on a table (with antibac) but there only 3 were taken. I think more people are being careful than we (as a household) originally thought locally.

Vivana · 02/11/2020 00:44

Yes had a few but ignored the door

Champagneforeveryone · 02/11/2020 00:59

We live in a small village and normally get at least 3 or 4 groups but there was nobody.

We put out a tub of Haribo and a bottle of hand sanitizer and I think there was a couple of bags gone when we bought them in. It was really sad actually as it's just one more thing that's not normal Hmm

Family1st2020 · 02/11/2020 01:13

Yes one set of parents with 2 kids around 5 Yr old. They didn't see the sign saying not to knock please. They looked sad so I grabbed them something from the dcs own sweets.

Then door knocked again. Thought it was dh as was due back it was 8 adults and about 11 kids! I just pointed to the sign and said sorry I didn't get anything in , I nearly felt bad until one said ffs they have a pumpkin and they gave loads last year the ass holes! The kid was about 10!

The pumpkin was only out as had cut too early in week and it started to smell so out out the front lit up.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 02/11/2020 01:25

I put a couple of pumpkins with lollies stuck in and the inside filled with sweets with a sign next to it saying to help themselves but that we would not open the door.

We know there are two families close by who struggle to get to the area for the pumpkin trail and have SEN DC. I don't know them well enough to contact them but we hoped they may see it.

Noone had touched it during my DC Halloween celebrations (inside the house ) but when I put DC to bed DP heard children and he said there were a few groups through in about half an hour Grin he watched out the window because he knew how excited I would be that it had worked Grin.

He even made note if the different costumes so he could tell me Grin

Noone rang the doorbell and DP said that they were all being sensible and distancing and several parents called thank you as they left.

It was a nice experience for us in a crappy week. (And ds2 got a usually forbidden lollipop as I have one left over so he was very happy)

GlamGiraffe · 02/11/2020 01:37

Not one which was something of a miracle.

Even with lights off on a normal year when youre out of treats they keep of banging on the door all night.we were very pleasantly surprised.

I live in an area which goes totally ridiculously mad at Halloween (in an over bearing way, with police controls, roads roads closed, traffic restrictions etc due to the numbers that descend hetee). We usually give out about 500 packs of sweets but its so unpleasant and packed its not even safe to take your own children to the houses a few doors either side as the crowds are crushing on a normal year it was nice not to have the total pandemonium this year and see that people eventually got the idea it might not be the smartest thing to do here this year.

Pipandmum · 02/11/2020 01:39

Yes we had a few. Normally we have loads. My son got bored with it in the end and put the bowl of sweets outside and it was all taken, bowl too.
