So, did you actually get any trick or treaters last night?

After being adamant we weren’t going to open the door, it wasn’t necessary anyway as no one knocked!

Usually we get quite a few children knocking, so I was surprised.

Either they only knocked on houses with pumpkins (something we all do around here), or there genuinely wasn’t anyone out last night.

How about you?

None, and it is a big community thing in our roads. But people with kids were out in costume outside their front doors ‘scaring’ passers by from a distance, lots of people decorated their gates, fences, the lamp posts, etc.

sashh · 01/11/2020 12:55

None at all, this is the first time ever.

It's a shame because I've seen some of the kids go from being small children in costumes, to teenagers bringing younger siblings and then the younger siblings are now teens.

Shodan · 01/11/2020 12:55

A few, nothing compared to normal though. I pegged bags of haribo to our front hedge (inside the garden) and when they knocked I directed them to help themselves. They all loved that.

My neighbour across the road dressed up and was offering sweets to the few that passed, but that was it.

We agreed that next year though we're going to go all out Grin

I like this idea. Will have to do the same thing

We had one but I didn’t answer the door.

My children went out for a short walk to see decorations. One woman came out and offered them sweets which we politely declined much to DC’s dismay. In hindsight we probably coukd have accepted but we are already two weeks into lockdown here and trying hard to minimise unnecessary risks.

whoareyouIwonder · 01/11/2020 12:57

Lots here!

m0therofdragons · 01/11/2020 12:58

Nope. We’re in a cul de sac and usually hand out 80-100 packs of sweets but we put a bowl out with a sign and saw one dc walk up our path and he’s from next door but one. We did games, spooky food and a scary film night with dc with sweets.

Redglitter · 01/11/2020 13:00

No but our village did the Pumpkin Trail. Over 100 houses participated and I heard quite a few family groups passing by. Seems to have been a good compromise

SingleHandSue · 01/11/2020 13:04

We usually have loads on our estate, it’s a big deal round here. I decorated as normal as did many of the neighbours but we only had one knock. A very cute girl with her dad who’d obviously let her paint his face 😂
I’d put hand gel on the porch which she used before getting her sweets completely unprompted.

I think more were doing pumpkin hunts as I did hear groups of people walking past.

Plussizejumpsuit · 01/11/2020 13:05

Nope. We had pumpkins in the window

RiaOverTheRainbow · 01/11/2020 13:10

Our village had a pumpkin trail - loads of families walking round in costume but no door knocking. Seemed to be a mix of parents providing their own sweets and some houses leaving sweets next to their pumpkins. More people took part decorating and/or walking than in a normal year!

Honeyandapple · 01/11/2020 13:12

None

PoptartPoptart · 01/11/2020 13:20

We usually have loads of kids knocking- last year we counted over 30 knocks on the door and gave out about 100 packs of sweets!

We didn’t have one knock this year (although admittedly we didn’t decorate the front door and light a pumpkin as we usually do).
It was really sad actually Sad

HoldMyLobster · 01/11/2020 13:21

I live next to a street that usually has hundreds of trick or treaters coming from all over town. I went for a walk there at sunset and didn't see a single one.

Most houses had put individually wrapped treats out on a table, and there were lots of decorations.

DianaT1969 · 01/11/2020 13:23

No, I would have given money as I didn't have sweets, but nobody knocked. Another MN poster has a thread entitled 'Am I being unreasonable to tell trick and treaters to f**k off?'. Lovely. The spirit of Mumsnet in times of Covid right there.

Yeah I saw that

Lovely thing to say to kids isn’t it?

I wouldn’t have answered the door but I would never have told someone else’s kids to fuck off either

UnbeatenMum · 01/11/2020 13:35

No. We did a pumpkin hunt but didn't knock on any doors and we only saw one other family out. Not sure if they were trick or treating or doing the same as us.

Sheknowsaboutme · 01/11/2020 13:36

I have never had them.

Thankfully

grafittiartist · 01/11/2020 13:38

We went for a walk and several houses (including ours) had left sweets out.
Was really nice.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/11/2020 13:42

Not one. We had a pumpkin out and decorations. More sweets for me though!

Benjispruce2 · 01/11/2020 13:44

No.

Doubleyikes · 01/11/2020 13:48

No but we don’t get many round here anyway. I’m always glad if it’s quiet as “Trick or Treat?” in these parts is not a theoretical question.

pastandpresent · 01/11/2020 13:51

Yes, and I was totally oblivious and opened the door. I was shocked to see the bunch of children standing right by the door, and parents behind them.
Normally I leave the lantern outside to let people know we are participating, and we didn't this year.
Felt bad when children were disappointed but I really wasn't expecting this.

DaisyDreaming · 01/11/2020 13:52

We didn’t have anyone knock but everything we put out went. Very few people out so I suspect someone emptied the lot

Coppercreek · 01/11/2020 13:59

Our local area had an agreement to leave bowls of sweets at the end of the drives. I didn't think many would participate and only decided to go at the last minute but the kids got a massive hoard! Some houses had put together little goody bags earlier in the week to quarantine them.

Was nice to have a dose of normal life at the moment, and surprisingly no little scroats came and took the lot.
