Recommendations for a family board game please?

We are 4 adults, me, DH, DD, and DS.

Cards against humanity isn’t something I wish to put my later teens through so can anyone recommend an easy, funny game I can buy for use over Xmas whilst we have a few drinks?

Not bothered about too much thinking or acting out charades etc, just something simple but addictive and competitive.

I’d love some suggestions please, we end up playing jacks usually which gets old quickly.

Need something that has a clear winner - DH and DS are very competitive 😂

The London Game?

Pandemic. Although I haven't been able to bring myself to play it since March last year x

DS and DH sabotage each other.

Camel Up is a lot of fun. You bet on a series of camel races and can pile the camel pieces up on top of each other. There’s never a clear winner until the very last throw so everyone stays invested throughout. It’s the one we pull off our shelf if we want to laugh at each other rather than serious competition.

Coup is an excellent card game of sabotage and deception. Each round takes 10 minutes and rules are easy and quick to learn.

Pandemic is my favourite board game. But like Ginandtonic4all, somehow it seems a bit wrong playing it at the moment. We played an extension version for the first time in June, and all got very depressed when having defeated the virus, it mutated and ended up losing!

We've just bought Splendor and that's a great game. Simple to learn, but quite complex to play well.

We used to love Balderdaah - you basically have to make up strange facts or funny stories. It's really fun

For card games, Exploding Kittens or Unstable Unicorns are lots of fun. Both quite silly, easy to learn and quick to play.

5 second rule is fab. You have 5 seconds to name 3 things (ie: cities beginning with L/mammals/sports stadiums). It's fun, easy to play, accessible to all ages and always raises a laugh.

Articulate always gets very competitive when we play it

I love Articulate too WeeM! Always our family go to especially around Christmas. We love Rapidough too, very funny.

Tiny Towns

Ticket To Ride is our favourite board game ever. Easy to learn, but with loads of clever tactics.

There’s loads of editions. Europe edition is our favourite.

Dixit we have played that as a similar family its fun

That made no sense we have played it as a family adults and with late teenagers who have enjoyed it

@Widebum there's a tamer version of cards against humanity. We just bought it for my 11 year olds for Christmas

Also a fan of ticket to ride, easy to learn, takes long enough to need to think ahead and have tactics but usually done in 40 minutes to an hour - Europe addition is best as the tunnels add a bit more interest than the original. Carcassonne is also a good fun game that allows for overly competitive players to sabotage each other

Scattergories is our family favourite. Followed by Qwordie.

Definitely Ticket to Ride! I first heard about it on MN a few years ago - we (5 adults) played it nearly every night for an entire year

As a pp said, it's easy to learn, but has depth and every game is different. Plus, even though it's nice to win, you don't have to to enjoy it - there's a lot of personal satisfaction in just 'getting all your routes done'

I’ve bought Ticket to ride for our Christmas board game this year . It was reduced to £18. ?? last week .
Not a board game as such but Genius square is excellent and very competitive.

What's that smell is quite good and only about £4.
