Recommendations for a family board game please?

We are 4 adults, me, DH, DD, and DS.

Cards against humanity isn’t something I wish to put my later teens through so can anyone recommend an easy, funny game I can buy for use over Xmas whilst we have a few drinks?

Not bothered about too much thinking or acting out charades etc, just something simple but addictive and competitive.

I’d love some suggestions please, we end up playing jacks usually which gets old quickly.

Need something that has a clear winner - DH and DS are very competitive 😂

Ticket to ride sounds complex but really isn't- brilliant game and very addictive. Another all time favourite we have us 'Survive! Escape from Atlantis!'. Particularly fun if you enjoy being vindictive towards other competitors! Grin

We have just got the family edition of cards against humanity. Is for 8+ and still quite funny.
Bananagrams and banagrams party edition
Exploding kittens and various expansion packs
Countdown the board game
The London board game

Ticket to Ride is amazing. Like others we like pandemic but can’t face it at the moment.

We like ticket to ride but it is a proper hour plus long board game. For fun, fast and competitive, Dobble is good.

So glad to see someone else is a fan of Survive! It can be really competitive!

Ticket to Ride is very simple to learn, and you can have great fun blocking other people's routes!

Quacks of Quedlinberg is another one we really enjoy.

And Castle Panic is a good co-operative one that's not as complex as Pandemic! You work together to defend your castle against invading monsters.

9&11 yo here loved ticket to ride over half term. Also pandemic, catan, super rhino & riff-raff.

EnglishRose1320 · 01/11/2020 22:41

Chameleon and Cast Quest, both very funny easy to pick up games, great for young adults.

We also love Scattergories, Catan, Labyrinth and Cobra Paw to name a few!

sunnysidegold · 01/11/2020 22:42

We love Carcassonne and ticket to ride here.

Also, rummikub is addictive and fun!

Sweetchillijam · 01/11/2020 22:46

Also got pandemic in January and all
enjoyed it but like others can’t bring ourselves to play it since Marcg.

Articulate, Guess Who, Charades, Pictionary, Monopoly or Scrabble.

Abeilles · 01/11/2020 22:47

Cockroach poker! Such simple rules but addictive and causes lots of laughter, accusations and general sledging

Chameleon2003 · 01/11/2020 22:49

Ticket to Ride is a Euro game - they are quite easy to learn and don't go on for hours.
Settlers of Catan is also a good one.

We also like Chameleon, Dixie and Codewords.

Chameleon2003 · 01/11/2020 22:50

Dixit not Dixie!

If you like the tv show taskmaster, we've recently bought that for our teen DC to play over Christmas.

The format is similar to the board game - you are set silly tasks within the time limits and one person acts as the taskmaster to judge.

Tasks are random, from make me a surprising cup of tea. Most surprising cup of tea wins. Or make a replica of the taskmaster statue, but you cannot use paper or cardboard.

Probably worth watching the C4 show first to get a flavour of how silly the tasks are.

Blokus
Bananagrams
Articulate
Scattergories

Abbey0134 · 02/11/2020 07:13

The sock game - easy and fun - everyone who has played it here has then bought their own.
