Mischief night tonight

I’m in the NW (tier 3) so in theory there shouldn’t be many people out tonight, but I’m still dreading it. I live in a supposedly ‘naice’ area, but last year it was terrible. Youths turned a car over near the town centre, smashed up a local supermarket, kicked off numerous car wing mirrors (including mine) and that was only half of it. Far worse damage caused in nearby areas. It gets worse every year and the police don’t seem to have enough officers to get it under control. Anyone else feeling worried too?

To be honest I forgot about mischief night, I recall it being really bad last year. Fingers crossed parents are keeping their kids in

WoobyWoo · 30/10/2020 17:42

I’ve never heard of this, sounds awful!

Lipz · 30/10/2020 17:44

What on earth is mischief night? Not from UK but would love to know.

Coldemort · 30/10/2020 17:46

Tends to be a scouse thing 'missy night'
I'd never heard of it until I worked on the wirral. Kids going around egging cars, knocking on doors etc. Can get quite out of hand

Dreeple · 30/10/2020 17:50

They call it Kickie-doorie night here.

Bettina500 · 30/10/2020 17:52

I'm in the UK and I've never heard of it Confused

Could you get very visible cctv or would they not care?

Steamfan · 30/10/2020 17:53

Hate it - it's a "good" area here, so all the kids have money to spare on eggs and fireworks. At least I don't have to go out tonight.

Scarby9 · 30/10/2020 17:53

Mischief Night is 4 November over here in Yorkshire.

Sorry for the Daily Mail link, but this is what happened last year. I live fairly nearby to where this all happened last year. My town saw damage too though. I think it originally started as mischief many years ago e.g knock and run, that kind of thing, but it’s just plain criminal activity now.

Mumtumwobble · 30/10/2020 17:55

Actually, my town is named here. Dreading it.

StCharlotte · 30/10/2020 18:02

So it happens on the 30th?

Pedallleur · 30/10/2020 18:05

It's criminal damage given license somehow. But the Police can only do so much.

StCharlotte · 30/10/2020 18:06

So It's different dates? As well as Halloween? Bloody hell there's no peace this time of year is there?

PepsiLola · 30/10/2020 18:12

Where I live is mentioned on that DM link (Wirral).

I've just seen on a local fb page it's started kicking off by our local park, fire works and eggs and cars Angry

MrsWhites · 30/10/2020 18:18

It’s not just a scouse thing! I’m in Liverpool but have family in the East Midlands and it happens there too!

Steamfan · 30/10/2020 18:18

Once again - fireworks sold to any one. Ban the fucking things. And thank god this lot are off the street - www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/18835346.fireworks-worth-3-500-seized-liscard-lock-up/

OverTheRainbow88 · 30/10/2020 18:20

An assisted living development was smashed up? Some people have no shame!!

OP I would be worried to! I’m not sure if it’s best to turn all house lights off and pretend no one is in or turn them all on and look lived in?

Mumtumwobble · 30/10/2020 18:21

Damage can happen over a few nights, but the main night here is 30th.

Never heard of this Shock (S. Wales) Sounds like a precursor to The Purge!

QueenPaws · 30/10/2020 18:41

Fireworks going off here already

Mumtumwobble · 30/10/2020 18:44

Be thankful if you’ve never heard if it. I grew up in the midlands and had never heard of it until I moved here.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 30/10/2020 18:49

And the NE. I’d never heard of it till we moved here, then not much till I started working at our local comp. it’s been hell over the years, some worse than others depending on the cohort. Last year was atrocious, and the police were useless. I reported some kids and then went out to see the psco who came out having a laugh and a joke with them. But they said it wasn’t them, so who got believed? The worst year? When my windows were covered with a mix of egg and correction fluid. And the cheeky buggers then came trick or treating the next day.
It’s lovely and quiet so far.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 30/10/2020 18:54

Never heard of it , probably because they'd get their arses kicked if they tried that round here . Not a ' naice' area lol

Mumtumwobble · 30/10/2020 20:06

It’s everywhere near me, the ‘naice’ areas and not so ‘naice’.

OP posts:
Mumtumwobble · 31/10/2020 09:29

It was a pretty quiet night in the end. Some nuisance caused by a group of youths who were dealt with by the police. Nowhere near as bad as last year. Hope everyone else was ok too.
