My partner has arranged for us to go to a splash park with friends and all I feel is sick

about the thought of having to wear swimwear. I hate it. I feel too exposed and naked in front of everyone.

I’d be slightly better if we weren’t going with friends but not much. I’d feel slightly better if it was an actual swimming pool where I could quickly submerge myself under the water but it’s like a toddler pool where I’m going to have to stand exposed and freezing so that the kids can play under some fountains.

Does everyone feel like this? He thinks I’m being ridiculous

In the UK? In October?? Is this some kind of modern-day flagellant ritual to try to make the plague go away?

MrsJBaptiste · 28/10/2020 20:31

Is it Alpamere in Scarborough?

HotToCold · 28/10/2020 20:31

In what country?

A country that isnt effected by the pandemic i presume?

Hoppinggreen · 28/10/2020 20:32

Are you all 9?

icedaisy · 28/10/2020 20:33

Strangely, I'm sure I have read this before....recently.

trashaccount · 28/10/2020 20:34

Not by any means suggesting you cover up, but could you get a one-piece swimsuit or a coverup if it made you more comfortable? Or you could wear a big baggy teeshirt and say it's for sun protection (though always tricky in October!)

Sorry you're feeling worried though. Have you mentioned the insecurity aspect to your partner? x

LittleBearPad · 28/10/2020 20:35

Splash park. That’ll be nippy.

No need for both parents to brave the spray. You have a cup of coffee and look after the towels!

1FootInTheRave · 28/10/2020 20:37

I felt similar when we went to centre parcs with pals.

I got a great swimsuit, a spray tan and a pedicure.

Still a bit chubby but I felt great.

Me too
biggirlknickers · 28/10/2020 20:37

I sometimes feel like this about going swimming. Especially at a splash park (which I hate, because I want to actually swim when I go swimming). But I do it anyway because nobody honestly gives two hoots what I look like in a swimming costume. Just plaster a big smile on your face and style it out.

Jayaywhynot · 28/10/2020 20:40

Me too and I'm not in bad shape for my age.
I hate bikinis, it's like walking around in my underwear.
Iv bought tankinis, next do nice one's, I wear sarongs over them, ebay sell them for around £4.
If you're watching the kids and not submerging yourself you could just wear bikini bottoms, a vest and a sarong

HDready · 28/10/2020 20:41

I remember the very similar story - didn’t OP post photos of herself that everyone then gushed over Hmm

NerrSnerr · 28/10/2020 20:41

To the PP who say it'll be chilly a leisure centre near me has a fairly new indoor splash pool so maybe it's one like that?

A country that isnt effected by the pandemic i presume?
People are still allowed to meet in groups of 6 in Tier 1 areas (not sure about tier 2).

HelloDulling · 28/10/2020 20:42

Outside? In the UK? What?!

twobrews · 28/10/2020 20:42

If your in the UK then just keep your anorak on, you'll need it anyway 🥶

Ghostlygrapes · 28/10/2020 20:43

When it this! It’ll be freezing this time of year

Sorry if I’m repeating someone else’s post, I haven’t seen it.

It’s an indoor splash park but still freezing.

No we’re not 9, but we have young children.

It’s not so much body insecurities as just feeling so exposed and vulnerable...

How about a wrap skirt, or something floaty to go over the swimsuit? I hate getting into swimwear at the best of times too

AudTheDeepMinded · 28/10/2020 20:53

wetsuit?

BeneathTheMilkyTwilight · 28/10/2020 20:55

I see other women wearing a baggy t shirt over swimming suit sometimes... nobody seems to care what other people are wearing. Would that work for you?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 28/10/2020 20:58

Where do you live that this is allowed?

I feel like I live in a parallel universe.

Oh no. I live in the sess pool that is the North West.

Echobelly · 28/10/2020 20:58

Do you have to go in? I went to one when my kids were about 4 and 7 and just sat by the side (not self-consciousness, I just had some work to do)

FuckedyFuck · 28/10/2020 21:00

I went to a splash park recently and all of the women were fully dressed in leggings and tops while in there

JeanneFrench · 28/10/2020 21:02

Say you have your period, or Covid symptoms.

Scoobydoobydo · 28/10/2020 21:03

Stay dressed and if anyone comments just say “ women’s problems of the most horrendous nature”
People will soon leave you alone
