My partner has arranged for us to go to a splash park with friends and all I feel is sick

about the thought of having to wear swimwear. I hate it. I feel too exposed and naked in front of everyone.

I’d be slightly better if we weren’t going with friends but not much. I’d feel slightly better if it was an actual swimming pool where I could quickly submerge myself under the water but it’s like a toddler pool where I’m going to have to stand exposed and freezing so that the kids can play under some fountains.

Does everyone feel like this? He thinks I’m being ridiculous

@justforthisnow She's allowed to feel uncomfortable if that's how she feels. If waterparks are open it's because they've been deemed safe enough for public use.

Wereeaglesdare · 28/10/2020 22:02

They actually make swim leggings and tops which I will deffinately be buying before my next swim

I mean it's a bit pricey but it would be worth it for my peace of mind personally. I'm sure you look great though OP. I'm very overweight at the moment and when I took my daughter nobody batted an eye at me. I wore a swim dress and although I felt the most naked ever I just carried on focusing on the time with my child. Everyone is doing there own thing they won't judge you.

I would wear a one piece with a very large t shirt over it, to shorts and t shirt, or better yet let your partner look after the kids and watch from the sidelines

justforthisnow · 28/10/2020 22:12

Just to be clear, for me, in an actual pandemic, the OP is worried about WHAT TO WEAR TO A WATER PARK IN THE UK SO SHE DOESNT LOOK TOO BIG.
Have I got that right?

Like I said. It’s like a parallel universe.

Serious apols for the multiple posts, MN does this on my mobile.

Actually no, you've got it completely wrong.
Dahlietta · 28/10/2020 22:25

I am just here to hear about the splash park.

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/10/2020 22:27

Wetsuit?

NeonGenesis · 28/10/2020 22:29

I understand what you mean OP.

I live in Australia now and people here are always at the beach, waterfalls, swimming holes, pools etc and it all involves stripping down to swimwear, or your underwear if it's an unplanned dip!

Everyone here seems to think it's totally normal but to me I'm always very aware that I'm basically in my undies... and no, I don't have many body hang ups. I actually look pretty good considering I've had kids... It's just the principle of it.

I'd recommend having a good look around swimwear, sportswear and underwear type places/websites and choose stuff that covers you up a bit more than a standard one piece/bikini.

So absolutely no legally allowed, still open, fun for the kids, things is ok in your sad world? We should all sit at home doing absolutely nothing, going nowhere and waiting for the entire economy to collapse seeing no one for the foreseeable future?
If the park is open, it's been deemed an acceptable, relatively low risk. Pretty sure there will be aircon.

And we don't all spend every minute of our day panicking about Covid. If OP wants to discuss feeling weird about a certain situation, well this IS a chat forum, open to all.

Beautifully said.

I tend to wear a shorty wetsuit for the warmth when it's splashing around.
Everyone is in swimwear doing their own thing. In the nicest way, no one else pays attention to others at a pool.

You haven't got it right at all. OP didn't say anything about looking "too big".

The "actual pandemic" has been ongoing for some months now, it is impossible to remain in a heightened state of panic, and very possible to think about other things.

YoureRight · 28/10/2020 23:17

Indoors, around other humans (extremely high risk choice) with added hyped kids, bare flesh and water jets to really blast the virus as effectively as possible. You’d have to have something seriously wrong with you to even vaguely consider that to be an acceptable pastime. Unreal.

Barryisland · 28/10/2020 23:20

Just say you don’t fancy going in the water and sit at the side? Don’t do anything that makes you uncomfortable.

Would it not, aye 😄 must be bliss to be so naive

Poppingnostopping · 29/10/2020 00:15

In the UK? In October?? Is this some kind of modern-day flagellant ritual to try to make the plague go away? this made me laugh so much

NeonGenesis · 29/10/2020 00:42

If government mandated restrictions allow for people to participate in something, then for fuck's sake, just let them participate.

If things change and it is no longer deemed safe for the waterpark to be open then I'm sure it will have to close and the social gathering won't be happening anyway.

People really need to chill out with all this scaremongering. Is it not even enough for people to follow the rules anymore?!

BikeRunSki · 29/10/2020 02:38

My local leisure centre has a splash park. It’s indoors and it is open. You need to book a timed ticket In advance, but you always did.
