My partner has arranged for us to go to a splash park with friends and all I feel is sick

about the thought of having to wear swimwear. I hate it. I feel too exposed and naked in front of everyone.

I’d be slightly better if we weren’t going with friends but not much. I’d feel slightly better if it was an actual swimming pool where I could quickly submerge myself under the water but it’s like a toddler pool where I’m going to have to stand exposed and freezing so that the kids can play under some fountains.

Does everyone feel like this? He thinks I’m being ridiculous

Swim shorts (or like football/sports shorts) and a rash vest or t shirt.

Slightlybrwnbanana · 28/10/2020 21:05

Yeah can you check what you need to wear? (Assuming you haven't been before). Search for images or check trip advisor reviews

halloweenagain · 28/10/2020 21:13

I have swim shorts and a structured swim vest. It looks very like a sunny day outdoors outfit but made of swimming fabric.
I find standing around and and running after dc easy and comfortable.

Hellothere19999 · 28/10/2020 21:13

You can get some really good, supportive swim suits in tk maxx (I assume you’re feeling self conscious), just get something that makes your boobs look great 😂

Also there’s all kinds of weird bodies at the pool, everyone’s different and when you look back you realise you shouldn’t have cared. Just have fun.

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 28/10/2020 21:15

Would something like these help op?

Also, just remember that everyone will be too worried about what they look like themselves to be critical of others.

Are you on the uk or not ?

AnyFucker · 28/10/2020 21:15

*in

TheChosenTwo · 28/10/2020 21:17

Our local splash pool has rules up on the wall stipulating what consists of appropriate swim attire.
Leggings and T-shirt’s are not permitted!!
Op I hate taking dc to the splash water park (indoors!), loathe standing around feeling fat, cold and on display. I don’t think for a minute that anyone is looking at me, I just hate it so much.
I do take them because they love it but without dc I would never in my life suffer the shitness that is a water park!

gamerchick · 28/10/2020 21:17

Just let him take the kids in and you go and sit somewhere warm with something to read

Or stay home. You dont need to go in.

ThirstyGhost · 28/10/2020 21:17

You could wear a long sleeve swim shirt/rash vest. I wear them at the beach because prone to sand/sea/sun rashes (you name it, I get a rash). I wear a plain one with swim shorts. It's warmer too.

Emmie12345 · 28/10/2020 21:18

Can’t you just have a cup of tea and watch?

oakleaffy · 28/10/2020 21:19

Just had to google 'Splash park' ..Yuck! water spraying at one from different angles sounds like Dante's Seventh Cycle of Hell.

I can imagine the echoing screams and the freezing water...Brrrrrrr

Time to develop a ''cold'', I think!..Stand on the dry parts, with warm towels.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 28/10/2020 21:27

How on earth can these places be open?

I had this feeling for years - but I’ve recently noticed that the majority of kids at the pool are with Dad and mum is either not there or sat fully dressed somewhere- is there somewhere you could hang out ?

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 28/10/2020 21:29

There’s a lot to be said for burkinis.

Verite1 · 28/10/2020 21:30

Wear a wet suit?

rainbowstardrops · 28/10/2020 21:31

Tell your DH he can go in with the kids while you look after the towels etc have a nice cup of coffee

bananaskinsnomnom · 28/10/2020 21:34

Purchase some swim shorts and a rash vest, or some kind of swim skirt. I have them for swimming at work, practically summer clothing! Plus you’ll find some cheap online atm, summer clear outs - I just bought new ones from Mountain Warehouse!

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 28/10/2020 21:35

I haven't had to wear swimwear to a splash park since my two were babies and even then it was just shorts so I could hold their hands in the water. There is 0 need for you to wear swimwear OP.

clary · 28/10/2020 21:35

To those saying "where is this that such places are open?" - the swimming pools near me are all open (thank goodness, I love swimming).

I imagine this may be via a booked time slot to limit numbers.

OP I second the idea of a rash vest and a pair of swim shorts or cycle shorts. Or a one-piece with short legs. Or sit on the side! Is that possible - are your DC old enough and good enough swimmers?

AestheticWitch · 28/10/2020 21:45

I would feel exactly the same.

I hate swimwear and I'd hate being in it in front of people I know. It would be easier 20 miles away with strangers. I would then feel terrible not being the fun mum in my swimwear at the splashpark.

How about swim/board shorts and a tankini top?

justforthisnow · 28/10/2020 21:53

Is your partner aware there is a pandemic currently? If he does and is still promoting this, he's not that clever. Or informed.
And if you don't want to go to a water event, don't go.

halloweenagain · 28/10/2020 21:53

These are lands end examples of more covered swimwear

justforthisnow · 28/10/2020 21:56

Just to be clear, for me, in an actual pandemic, the OP is worried about WHAT TO WEAR TO A WATER PARK IN THE UK SO SHE DOESNT LOOK TOO BIG.
Have I got that right?
