My partner has arranged for us to go to a splash park with friends and all I feel is sick

about the thought of having to wear swimwear. I hate it. I feel too exposed and naked in front of everyone.

I’d be slightly better if we weren’t going with friends but not much. I’d feel slightly better if it was an actual swimming pool where I could quickly submerge myself under the water but it’s like a toddler pool where I’m going to have to stand exposed and freezing so that the kids can play under some fountains.

Does everyone feel like this? He thinks I’m being ridiculous

Board shorts and rash vest over your swimsuit/bikini - or sit and watch in clothes!

Just don't go. Make up an excuse. Or sit by the edge fully dressed. They sound a ridiculous idea anyway.

For those worrying about safety

Yes tier one, able to meet in groups of 6. Me, partner, 2 of our children, friend, his child. 6 people.

Splash park is open for pre-booked tickets only. Their website says they have a limit on the number of groups allowed in. (So one adult and child =one group, family of 6 also one group)

One adult per child to ensure children are properly supervised and observe social distancing. If people are seen not to be observing distancing they will be asked to leave.

You have to arrive in swimwear as changing rooms are only for those getting changed at the end of the session. Every third cubicle in use, one locker per block of 6.

Pool is open for an hour and a half then closed for half an hour for cleaning and to prevent crossover of groups.

And various other measures.

No it won’t be 100% safe but what is?

And no I’m not ‘worried about looking big’. I just don’t like wearing so little in public.

Thanks for all the clothing suggestions, I have a tankini and will see if they allow board shorts so I don’t feel like I’m stood in my pants (the other pool here doesn’t but that’s not even open)

Schools are open and I wouldn't deem them safe, all because something is open doesn't mean it isn't risky

Maybe the OP could wear one of these

If your children are looking forward to the activity try to concentrate on giving them a fun day out and enjoy their ability to have a good time . Makes you less likely to feel self conscious .

And yes tankini with longer length bottoms / shorts is perfect .

To be honest OP , I am not sure you should listen to those saying not to go etc.
I think we all have insecurities and I think there are very few women (with children) who don't look at their bodies and think Oh dear.
I would say a few things:
a) You will be your own worse critique, you will see problems that no one else will.
b) Everyone else will be worried about what they look like, no one will be concerned about you.
c) If you allow this to, it will be detrimental to you and your family's life moving forward.
What happens if in the future ( and when lockdown is over - for those who cant see beyond this) and your family want to go for a beach holiday etc - will you deny them going or not join them yourself.
Own your looks, if you want to make changes do that, but don't deny yourself fun and your family too, on the back of an insecurity.

I’m with you on this one, I hate how revealing regular swimsuits are. I have a great one with a high neckline and short style bottom, I don’t feel too bad in that. I’m actually very body confident, I just don’t see why swimwear has to be so small Confused
