We won't know our child's gender until they're 18

Is it just me or has the world gone crazy? Why is it such a problem to accept biological gender these days? Sure we need to address so many things in society including misogyny, hate, homophobia but why does that start with denying gender? We are born different. Each and every one of us. But we do have genetically defined sex. Nothing anyone does or says can change that. It is the fundamental basics of continuing to reproduce. Surely we should be addressing the acceptance of individuality and embracing the fact that anyone can look and act however they choose. Yeah, good luck with that Ems.

CurlsandCurves · 27/10/2020 20:34

So they’ll tell her when they’re 18 will they?

Control freak, much?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 27/10/2020 20:37

Well sex and gender aren't the same thing for a start.

yahyahs22 · 27/10/2020 20:37

Why 18? Just why? I have a baby BOY and I will raise him to be a MAN

nancy75 · 27/10/2020 20:41

Attention seeking twattery of the highest order

We should just do away with gender. There is no gender. Just biological sex.

acerred · 27/10/2020 20:49

What a load of gender non specific bollocks that is.

Well darling, it's your 18th birthday today so would you like to do the reveal and tell your mummy, daddy, great aunt Gladys and uncle billy your gender, I've got the bbc on the phone ready for the big news.

Tissueboxcover · 27/10/2020 20:51

It is very worrying that so many people are so thick.
No common sense.
Is she going to keep the child completely isolated from the outside world? For 18 years?

SirSamuelVimes · 27/10/2020 20:51

Bollocks.

hesaidshesaidwhat · 27/10/2020 20:52

Mmmm, they will know the sex though which is the most important thing since it will be OBSERVED at birth and put on the birth certificate. I wonder how the child will present - presumably until it can choose it's own clothes it will be dressed 'gender neutral', you know in clothes males normally wear like trousers etc....

Although frankly who gives a toss, these people are just attention seeking idiots.

Baggingarea · 27/10/2020 20:52

It sounds like she's making a joke to me.

Vargas · 27/10/2020 20:54

Bonkers. Poor kid.

Interesting concept but how does that work? I used to believe sex and gender were the same thing. It's only as times have changed that we are now expected to separate the concepts. But there really is only sex. Male and female. As we are genetically designed. The rest, the societal restraints etc is something different I suppose. But I don't want to date women. I'm not attracted to women. And even if I was attracted physically to a woman who appeared male or identified as male, I wouldn't want to be in that relationship because I wanted children. Specifically children we could make together. And yes, I know we don't all have that luxury and many people struggle to conceive and there are other options etc. I sought out someone to procreate with. That was my starting point. If things hadn't worked I'm sure we would have looked for other options but I wouldn't choose to be in the position. I do not want to be in a world where I cannot correctly identify what sex the person I am investing in is. Where it's taboo to ask if you have a penis or a vagina because I simply can't tell. Because as a hetero woman seeking a hetero make it would be a bloody minefield. It's hard enough already.

I also assumed she was having a laugh when she said that.

Bellesavage · 27/10/2020 20:56

But surely when the child looks in their pants and realises they have a flappy thing getting in the way or not then they're a boy/girl? Or are the parents assuming that stereotypes of men/women like having short hair and liking cars or long hair and liking pink are indicative of gender?

LittleRa · 27/10/2020 21:01

The very same Emily Ratajkowski who appeared naked in the music video for Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines- a date rapist’s anthem?
Does she totally hate women then?
Got to get those column inches in somehow, Em.

who?

GirlCrush · 27/10/2020 21:12

guess this baby won't have a dummy either.....all 'famous last words'

what about the fathers thoughts? when they split up he will be free of her nonsense and can dress the child as he see's fit....if we want to know that is, she's a nobody

Itisbetter · 27/10/2020 21:16

There is only sex, gender is navel gazing and nobody cares how you identify.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/10/2020 21:18

@ThistleWitch

who?
Some American model, gets her baps out a lot.
Spiderbaby8 · 27/10/2020 21:22

It's a good thing to reject the whole gendered toys thing, and the different attitudes we have towards boys/girls, but this just seems stupid. You can't break the bad parts of our gendered society by just pretending it doesn't exist.
