Am I less evolved ?

Starting a thread after a conversation I had with a work colleague the other day which has left me feeling a bit rubbish.
He believes in karma and was explaining to me how it works (I don’t know much about all this)
Anyway he was chatting to me and saying about you have to improve in each life you have to evolve and then you go to heaven. I wasn’t totally getting it and said I don’t know where I’d be in the karma cycle as I feel happy where I am in my life and he basically said (as an example to me) that another colleague is more evolved than me in the sense that they are intelligent, strong, compassionate, know where they want to go in life, knows how to handle herself. So I’ve still got a lot to learn?!
It just made me feel bad about myself and I’ve started googling it all. Just wanted to know what your thoughts are on this whole karma thing.
If I’m less successful in my career and shy for example-does that mean I’m less evolved?! Is that how people think/ how it works?! I just view everyone as an individual, never thought like this before!

I thought this was going to be about that arm muscle only some people have (people are starting to be born without it because we don't climb trees anymore).
I have that arm muscle and all four wisdom teeth, so I'm not very evolved :)

Luckily the karma cycle is made up, so don’t let it worry you.

Some people are more confident in certain situations, some people know what they want at work, some people know what they want at home, some people don’t know what they want. We’re all evolved as much as each other.

I'd ignore him and emphasise you are there to work not talk about his spiritual well being.

Been reading a lot about being evolved on google, and it definitely has got me thinking!
Never worried about this until now! I was just happy with my lot! Now I’m thinking am I missing something?! He talks lot about the conscious mind etc, totally don’t fully understand it/never heard of it all before.
Obviously I’d heard of karma - ‘what goes around comes around’ but never knew much more than that..

Replace "Karma" and Evolve" with "self actualisation" (have a look at what this means)

and I would say that you are very "evolved" and your colleague is projecting somewhat. Sounds like you're winning to me.

I shouldn’t listen to other people but for some reason it really got me thinking. Maybe I am less clever than my colleagues because they are more evolved 😂 how funny! Got to laugh

The search for karma is that of perfect acceptance and enlightenment, isn't it?

If you're happy in your life OP, it sounds like you're doing far better than him. That's the key to a good life really.

Seperately, being happy in your life seems your mean you're less of a wanky tosser than your colleague too. I reckon you're winning OP!

Being happy with what you have is a goal of many philosophies.

He's twisting a philosophy/religion to suit himself. Not very evolved!

Astonished this is the first time you have met a self absorbed test who thinks they have the secret to the universe whilst lacking all self awareness.

Now you have seen this type you will meet more. Attached to some system of belief where faith or lifestyle based the are insufferable.

Well seeing as he is completely wrong I wouldn't give it another thought.
Heaven (and a linear concept of life) is a concept within the Abrahamic religions, not Hinduism or Buddhism. He seems to have read a couple of ill informed pieces of rubbish on the internet that like to pick and choose bits from different religions to develop their own belief system.
Have a look at the BBC Religion and Ethics site for really good, accurate and straightforward summaries of the beliefs of the major religions. No longer being updated but still available and far less technical than a lot of the Wikipedia entries.
I can give you some more suggestions if you want, but will have to think more about it first!
(If you were worried about any bias I have, I really don't, I'm head of RS and Philosophy in a secondary school and really hate it when people get this stuff wrong yet claim they are the fount of all wisdom! I have a degree in this yet still have to continually research to help my understanding and teach to a high level.)

Of course your colleague is male. This is just misogynistic 'negging' dressed up as eastern philosophy in an attempt to seem credible.
It isn't because
A) karma isn't real
B) evolution doesn't work like that

He's mixing theories and simply showing his own ignorance in his eagerness to be an arsehole to you. I'd simply disengage and avoid him

Is depressing that someone thinks like that of me (I’m definitely too sensitive to what people think I know!) colleague he referred to is no doubt more intelligent/confident than me but still massively hurts to have someone point out what is great about her than me! It’s hard to be confident and on the whole - and I do have to fake it but still makes me feel shit inside.

How about we are all different and have our own strengths and talents and all of us have room for improvement.

I thought Buddhists were meant to be kind? Your colleague is a rude twat so I'd be inclined to ignore anything he says...

Buddhism and its belief systems are as real as any of the other religions you could choose from. Make of that what you will.
