What would you put in a 'cleaning hamper'?

My goddaughter is at university and this is what she has asked at for xmas (!). I'm a total slattern in comparison so I've no idea! I thought some cute packaged cleaning things and maybe a few nice smelling incense sticks or candles but would they be permitted? What do I put them in?

My reply was going to be 'the person who gave it to me' but I see your god-daughter has requested it. No words!

It's quite an unusual thing to ask for, but I'm all for practical gifts so I think I'd enjoy putting it together. Lakeland is probably a good place to look for inspiration.

Decent microfibre cloths
Fluffy duster on a stick
Method cleaning products (they all smell really nice)
Novelty rubber gloves

Not incense or candles if she likes clean and fresh surroundings.

Eco friendly cloths (made of bamboo, cotton or loofah - can recommend a home crafter who makes lovely cotton cloths). Iron and velvet cleaning products - easy to transport and eco friendly. A nice soy candle. The organised mum method book (or Mrs Hinch if she’d prefer).

A voucher for a cleaning service?

Second Mrs Hinch stuff. She must be a fan. What’s wrong with young people nowadays?

Foam carpet/upholstery spray. Makes your whole room smell amazing. Multi purpose spray is a must too.

Do you know what she's planning on cleaning? If it's a shared student house I'd probably go to B & M and get one of each spray cleaner, toilet cleaner, clothes and rubber gloves. I wouldn't be spending a lot on nice products unless she was in her own home

Method cleaning products - they're animal and environmentally friendly. Smell amazing too! I use the wild rhubarb one.
Zoflora is popular though I really dislike it.
Some nice soy wax melt - maybe a wax burner and some tea lights to go with it if it's not a plug-in one.

Came on here to recommend this It's amazing stuff £1 in sainsburys too I'd put dusters, scourers, Mr sheen, washing up liquid, kitchen roll, soda crystals, salt & rubber gloves

I'd avoid Zoflora, Method etc personally as I hate the strong fragrances but that's a personal choice, she might like them.

Barkeepers Friend (the powder version) is multi-purpose & works well on a great deal of surfaces - thoroughly recommended.

A squirty water bottle to use for damping clothes when ironing and also damping windows with when cleaning them.

If she is in halls she's probably not allowed candles.

I'm middle-aged with my own home, which often needs cleaning.
If I received a cleaning hamper I think I would seriously wonder if my life was worth anything (lighthearted!).

Please please please, just make it as least damaging on the planet as possible - maybe one day she will look back on this episode and wonder why she squandered her youth....

Please don’t put Windowlene wipes in
They’re disposable so have to be discarded. If they’re thrown into landfill that will just cause a big problem to become even bigger.

Water and an ECloth are just as effective!

I like the "minky" sponge I think it's called, from Home bargains. It's softer on one side and more scourer type on the other and a decent size to clean surfaces and dishes etc.

Other than that, I just use hot soapy water for most things and bleach for the loo.

Is it just for her room? If so, maybe more bits to make it feel cosy? Hot water bottle, reed difusser and (to satisfy the request) some surface wipes in a nicer scent?

Why on earth is it depressing?

Is it wrong in some way to like cleaning or housework?

There are plenty better things to be doing than cleaning. Especially at 18-22.
