if its yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down

I wfh and drink lots of water so use the bathroom a lot, i am conscious about how much water i'd use by flushing the toilet multiple times a day.

So would it be awful to not flush after every wee?

If it's only you at home during those times, then no not awful at all.

If it’s only you using the loo, then no definitely not. If others are using the same loo then flush every time.

Depends on how much it smells or colour I guess. I always flush out of habit but I can understand why you'd decide to leave it.

DH is here but he works upstairs using upstairs bathroom and i work down stairs using the downstairs bathroom!!
It always clear/light coloured so wont stain the bowl or anything

Nbu at all.
I'm no environmental warrior, far from it but it pains me that we flush with drinking water that some of the world can only imagine.

I don’t think so.
Here we always do except for the middle of the night. I don’t think what you are doing is unreasonable though

We don’t flush during the night for wees and dh gets up multiple times some nights but I always drop a bleach tablet into the loo before I go to bed as a compromise .

I often leave a wee in the bowl but i know my dh will flush and as he goes to the toilet a lot my wee is never hanging round for long.
I've tried to get dh to flush less but he's a lost cause.

I have a really good sense of smell and urine does smell bad. But if your OH and you are both happy with it and you're the only people in the house, I can't see a problem.

That’s what we do here - we’ve got an ancient toilet with chain flush that takes what feels like forever to refill so don’t want to find ourselves without a flush option when it is really needed.... cannot wait to renovate 🤣

I'm in the yellow mellow camp, my DP however will flush EVERYTHING.
Sometimes I think he flushes the toilet for something to do.
If I have been an done the yellow/mellow thing, he will flush before he goes, which does get on my nerves, as there's really very little point!

Only flush if I have been eating asparagus Grin So only during a couple of months in the summer. Otherwise it can sit there.

Not as revolting as being unable to flush when it’s ‘brown’ because it was flushed less than 20 mins ago for just a kids ‘yellow’. There is only so much damage limitation VIPoo can do...

@MrsHerculePoirot in that case I would keep a bucket of water near the toilet to pour down it. Even the old washing up water would do.

It’s really not ‘revolting’- I’d run up and give it a flush if we have visitors. And like @viques flush more in asparagus season 😂 or if it smells....

I don't flush everytime if I'm on my own (I mean with a pee) but if I'm with someone then always flush after each use. Not really fair otherwise, I'd expect them to do the same (with lid seat closed).

I can understand flushing, I can understand not flushing

What I can't understand is anyone judging others choice.

Not just in this instance, but the 'revolting' post just leaves me bemused and glad my friends aren't like that

I think it’s fine. We (me & DP) flush after brown and before going to bed so it’s not sat there overnight. We are careful with water usage generally and our bill is now £18 a month despite both being at home.

I live on my own so only flush twice a day. After my morning ablutions and then at bedtime. This catches all, you can set the time by my bowels.

Not sure if it is just DH but I find pee stains the loo so I have to use loads to chemicals to clean it.

Also do you leave the paper In there? We have either copper or lead pipes (whichever is worse) and have to do a lot of flushing. Wish we could change it but in a block of flats and would be impossible to attach to the communal fall pipe

I go (for a yellow) a couple of times in the night so don't flush then to avoid noise and to save a bit of water.
By the morning the water in the bowl is always clear. Don't really understand how plumbing works, but I assume that the yellow water must somehow be in touch with some clean water and Brownian motion does its thing.

I'm completely ready to be told this is rubbish, but the fact remains that the water in the bowl in the morning is clear 🤷‍♀️
