That governing in our interests, to make our lives better, is so very low down, if it much features at all, in their priorities.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 23/10/2020 22:56

I don't hate the country but the north/south divide always makes me feel sad when l think about it - it is like we are 2 different countries

KenzoBaby · 23/10/2020 22:59

Nicola Sturgeon.
Glasgow.

AgeLikeWine · 23/10/2020 23:08

Patronising middle-class Guardian-reading liberals who despise working class people who have the impertinence to disagree with them.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/10/2020 23:14

The football relating to religion where I live.

AnotherEmma · 23/10/2020 23:21

I'm British (English) and what I hate most about this country is the way people vote in elections: Brexit is the worst thing that's happened in my lifetime (including covid - which is fucking shit - but Brexit is self inflicted FFS) and I can't believe people keep voting for the fucking Tories time and time again. I blame the media and general stupidity for believing the media.

FoolsAssassin · 23/10/2020 23:34

The way we are constantly being divided I to two sides on a range of issues and the politicians fan the flames

Dogwalks2 · 24/10/2020 00:08

That the people in power are all t?@ts

Dogwalks2 · 24/10/2020 00:14

And also the race to the bottom. Example free nhs prescriptions in Scotland and wales
Don’t begrudge it ask why your country doesn’t support it.

LocalHobo · 24/10/2020 00:21

A general lack of gratitude for living in developed, democratic nation.

Bloodybridget · 24/10/2020 02:28

Vacuous celebrity culture, endless reality TV, littering, dumbing down, snobbery and reverse snobbery. If I could abolish one of these it would be littering.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/10/2020 02:41

@OrtamLeevz

The fact that everybody else seems to hate us. It is not a good time to be English.
I'm not sure it's hatred as much as pity and incredulity. Which is worse some how.

People hate the USA, that implies power. They shake their heads and sigh at the UK, faded power.

lovelemoncurd · 24/10/2020 02:52

It's government. I'm embarrassed about being British because of them.

Tillygetsit · 24/10/2020 03:05

Government whips gaslighting a 22 year old who picked up the responsibility they swerved.

Sheknowsaboutme · 24/10/2020 08:16

Mark Drakeford

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 24/10/2020 08:28

The ignorance be it of the right wing Tory who can turn a blind eye to poverty and excuse a child not having a hot meal to the self righteousness lefty who will talk for the working class but doesn’t want to hear them

That we are so full of our own self importance. We despise being told what to do when we should be able to use our common sense Hmm and think that other countries hate or pity is they really don’t care We really are not that important

unmarkedbythat · 24/10/2020 08:35

The current fashion for taking terrible offence at being disagreed with and claiming whatever you have done is actually the fault of people who said what you were doing was stupid. Insisting that being disagreed with is being treated badly and wanting to be patted on the head and told whatever you do is great. Bloody people who can't even stand by the consequences of their votes without whining incessantly that people who voted differently to them aren't kissing their arses but are telling them they still think the way they voted was stupid.

SnoozyBoozy · 24/10/2020 08:38

Oh, and the hate-spewing tabloid newspapers who care more about sales and whipping people up into a frenzy than they do about being honest and transparent.

Tadpolesandfroglets · 24/10/2020 08:41

Brexit.
And tabloids in this country are shockingly bad.

Dugee · 24/10/2020 08:52

The current trend of shouting "shame on you" at anyone you disagree with.

Badgerbadger22 · 24/10/2020 09:15

I agree with the PP who said tabloids.

They’re absolutely embarrassing, often bullshit and badly written. With intent on causing rifts between different groups of people.

The Cornish media (CornwallLive) is famous for writing bollocks about tourists, usually false statements like “they’re coming!” And “the A30 is jammed” when it isn’t. You only have to check traffic cameras to know 1) they’ve shared an old photo and 2) the roads are clear. And we usually like tourists anyway.

The more shit they write the more “certain” people believe it. It’s so sad!!

I really wish there was a ban on “hateful media” or whatever they would call it. It’s horrendous and so damaging.

cantdothisnow1 · 24/10/2020 09:45

The fact that we live in the 5th largest economy and disabled children are denied a suitable education. Councils and the government are actively spending money to decrease their chances and plunge them into poverty. www.goodschoolsguide.co.uk/digital-media/blog/councils-squander-sen-childrens-funding

The fact that as a nation we are so conservative that many don't think it is the states responsibility to protect the most vulnerable.

The fact that as nation we are so conservative that we turn a blind eye to the cronyism and looking after the old boys that perpetuates these inequalities.

The fact that Brexit will make this worse not better.

TravelDreamLife · 24/10/2020 10:05

My country is pretty awesome and easy to guess! The bad:
-Snakes
-Stepping outside in summer means being burnt to a cinder in 2 minutes.
-People who move here and repeatedly tell me everything horrible about my country and how rude the people are. (Ummm... rude???)

  • how far apart everything is & how long it takes to get to the rest of the world.
  • the obsession with alcohol.
  • the obsession with sport.
  • the entitlement attitude to welfare.
  • political correctness becoming so heightened anything you say is offensive to someone.

I will say, a positives list would be much longer!!

Stillfunny · 24/10/2020 10:37

I hate the drinking culture here. Everything is am excuse to drink. A d if you dont drink , you are perceived as boring . It is very hard to socialise if you dont wish to get drunk.

lazylinguist · 24/10/2020 10:43

Brexit.
The drinking thing is changing (slowly) isn't it? I'm sure I've read that the younger generation drink much less than people my age (nearly 50) or the generations before us.
