Is life 360 app accurate !?

emelsie · 23/10/2020 18:18

Me, OH and DD(12) have the life 360 app, mainly just lets us know DD got to school and when she left .

I have justified reasons to be suspicious of OH. Around lunch time for the last few days when he is at work for around an hour give or take a couple of minutes the life 360 app has placed him at a residential address approx 3 miles from his work place.

On asking him a few questions about work generally , he hasn't said anything about leaving at any point , he ate lunch at work etc. I haven't said anything about seeing this , he has said a few things about the Wi-fi signal being crap at work.

Has anyone experienced this app randomly placing someone at a location a few miles away ?

Thanks !

I have 360app and it’s never placed us at inaccurate locations.ever
Your dp is probably lying and trying to bluster his way out of it

ScrapThatThen · 23/10/2020 20:58

I think this kind of GPS information can be a bit inaccurate sometimes. Me and dh were both logged into the same Google account and one night it showed his (or maybe my) 'location history' as in France ) but with a very direct 'as the crow flies route'. However, that night we were both in the school hall watching a nativity together. I looked it up and lots of people have small inaccuracies on their location. I suspect this is nothing to worry about OP.

It's hit and miss where the network drops - my son goes to school in a River for the first half hour before it connects him to the school and then his bus travels in a dead straight line across fields!!

Could you set alerts for his office - it would tell you when he leaves and returns - might get more reliable locations

HelloDulling · 23/10/2020 21:08

Never done it for us, we’ve used it for years.

TicTacTwo · 23/10/2020 21:10

You can fake your location with apps like that. For example if you wanted to look like you were at home while your partner was away you leave your phone at home and go out or switch on airplane mode so your location isn't updated. I don't know the app in question but a quick Google should reveal the tricks.

GPS isn't always accurate but if he's regularly at that specific address then I would be suspicious

formerbabe · 23/10/2020 21:13

I use this for my ds...when he was walking to school, the location stopped on one road and didn't change all day despite him going all the way to school. He had turned his phone off whilst on that road and hadn't turned on again.

ulanbatorismynextstop · 23/10/2020 21:15

I've used it, it was generally accurate. Can you go to this residential address and see if you see him going in?

SnoozyBoozy · 23/10/2020 21:20

It has occasionally put me in the back garden or next door, or if I'm watching my husband drive home (the kids like to watch, I'm not a stalker, honest!) sometimes it has him drive through some gardens or whatever before getting back on the road. But never at the same random address 3 miles away.

It should also tell you how long he's been there, is it always the same everyday?

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 23/10/2020 21:21

I've always found it to be accurate apart from the time I was at the edge of menorca and it said I travelled to majorca and back as I was walking along the coast line.

Click on his driving summary to see where he has been.

BentBastard · 23/10/2020 21:22

We use it as a family. I would say it is 99% accurate but there was one notable occasion when I was checking regularly on husbands train journey home so I could get dinner ready for the right time and it suddenly had him off his usual train route and trundling through local residential streets. I called asking if something was up with the train or had something happened and he was on his usual train done and dandy and few minutes later Lofe360 was back on track.

So yes, blips can happen but IME are infrequent/rare.

MiddleClassMother · 23/10/2020 21:38

I used it a few years ago but switched to find my friend as it takes less of a toll on battery life. I never found it to be inaccurate so would assume your OH is being deceitful.

emelsie · 23/10/2020 22:33

Thanks all for your experiences! I have too had similar with DD stopping a road before school or looking as though she Is walking through gardens etc but never this .

Also I can't check too far back because you need to upgrade but the it's been a few times to the same location around the same time and only on the days he has been at work there , not on his days off or when at home.

I haven't said anything yet but if anything is going on it is very brazen behaviour considering he is meant to be grovelling right now for something else.

I'm going to keep an eye on it for now.

It's generally quite accurate but I have occasionally seen it show a wrong location. Only as a one off though not a regular thing.

It does seem rather suspicious I'm afraid OP. Could the address be a gym or cafe or somewhere that would be part of a normal lunchtime? If you look at the app at around the time he has his lunch you could actually see his marker moving as he drives there That would confirm he's actually travelling there rather than a GPS location being a bit off.

RedSoloCup · 23/10/2020 23:19

We a family of 5 use it and never had this, sorry OO 😓

MrsJunglelow · 23/10/2020 23:32

DH downloaded this for us.
Maybe it’s better now (it was a while ago!) but we ended up deleting it because it wasn’t always accurate.
That said, I do think you should be cautious and open to the possibility there may be wrong doing going on

Tiggles · 24/10/2020 07:51

Next time it happens can you phone him on his work landline. If he answers just say you can't find your mobile and can he ring it. If his colleagues say he is out the office then you have your answer.

emelsie · 24/10/2020 16:24

I had my eye on the app all day today , just now and about a couple of hours ago it put his location as this residential address again and then when I refreshed it pinged back to his work. Also his history shows him being there today for 25 minutes but no driving journey is shown between his work and there.

I thought maybe he was turning the location tracking off so it updates where he has been but it's delayed so that's what throwing me off , but he wouldn't have left work several times to go this address so it must just be an error Confused

Do you have anything else setting yourself spidey senses off? Does he have form?

Whatyoucanandcantdo · 24/10/2020 16:27

We've used it for years and found it very accurate - 4 of us

emelsie · 24/10/2020 16:36

Yes , recently (2 weeks ago) found texts on a work phone that he was taking everywhere with him, I asked why he was taking the work phone out with him on a non work day, just casually and he said no reason but his face said otherwise, couldn't look at me. So I went into the phone when he went to bed , texts over a couple of months , arranging to meet up with a woman (he had previously dated during a break we had), lots of flirting , the meetings were cancelled for various reasons and eventually she backed out and said she wasn't ready to date again, he claimed he would of never actually gone through with meeting , of course Hmm.

satnighttakeaway · 24/10/2020 16:40

Does it tell you the actual address, street name and house number? Could you go there when the app says he there and check or go at any time to see what's actually there, it could be some kind of business in a residential area

MushMonster · 24/10/2020 16:41

According to Live 360 my daughter used to leave school and go to the shops a good walk away, on the other side of the river around the same time for a few days.
She did not in real life. She was in school- I hot her absence record.
Also, it showed her on a roundabout close to her school a few times.
Most of the time is amazingly accurate though

MushMonster · 24/10/2020 16:43

But if you have other clues, then I would check!

DiddlySquatty · 24/10/2020 16:45

To be honest I’ve never had it show a wrong location, ever.
Only sometimes be time lagging and not updated.

DiddlySquatty · 24/10/2020 16:46

He’d have to be pretty stupid though to go and be up to no good with life 360 on his phone...
