What time do you get up?

A light hearted thread.

For work I get up at seven but if I do not have to be anywhere I would rarely get up before nine or 9.30. Is this unusual?
I would like to be an early bird but I really am not and particularly at the moment I am having trouble staying asleep at night so I am generally tired.
Would just be interested to know if my day starts later than everyone else's?
I accept that if you have young children who need attending to or you have certain duties in the morning such as walking dogs you would get up earlier.

If you had the choice to get up at any time what would it be?

I’m still in bed with no immediate plans to get up, if that helps?

Champagneforeveryone · 23/10/2020 10:15

I was a night owl for most of my life, then peri-menopause struck and I'm usually tucked up in bed by 9pm at the latest

This also allows me to be tripping out of bed at 6am or occasionally earlier. I've also recently started to keep my phone on charge downstairs, which has considerably helped my early rising Wink

MyWedding · 23/10/2020 10:30

When I have work 6.30, at weekends probably about 8 am. Never thought there would be a time when I woke up before DC!

badlydrawnbear · 23/10/2020 11:36

For work days I get up at 6am, on school days when I am not at work I get up at 6.45. I seem to have lost the ability to lie in properly. If there is no work or school and DC aren’t up early, I very rarely get up after 8. The ability to lie in is another thing DC have stolen from me. I like to get up before DC when possible to have a drink in peace before facing the day. I also sometimes work nights and so get up in the afternoon.

garlictwist · 23/10/2020 11:38

I'm an natural early bird and am usually up between 5 and 630am (at the latest). I hate lying in bed and get up as soon as I wake up. Always knackered by the evening though!

Cauterize · 23/10/2020 12:42

School/work days, up at about 6.50am

Half term usually 8.30am

If DS is ever staying the night at my mums it's usually no later than 9.30am as need to sort dogs out. But would then go back to bed!!

shumway · 23/10/2020 12:44

Usually between 8 and 10.

EmmaStone · 23/10/2020 12:45

I probably mean more to night owl status, but need to be up around 6:45 on weekdays, weekends often awake by 8, but will stay in bed as long as possible, although unlikely to longer than 9:30.

DH is a complete early bird, except for some reason seems to go to bed early (usually falls asleep on the sofa by 9, then takes himself off to bed around 10), but despite me often getting to bed beyond 11-12 o'clock, it's still always me that needs to get up at 6:45 to mobilise the teens Hmm.

Serena1977 · 23/10/2020 12:51

I'm a sahm, dh works. Me and DC are up at 7.45am on school days. Weekends and school holidays, dd is up about 9.30am, ds about 8am, me about 11.30am. Both dd and me are night owls whilst ds and dh are early risers.

Mumtumwobble · 23/10/2020 12:55

Work days around 6:20 and weekends maybe 7, but my kids are up early so don’t really get a lie in. Plus they have activities on weekends that we have to get them to for 9am.

Smallsteps88 · 23/10/2020 12:57

I’m off work this week so Ive been letting DDog be my wake up call. Usually around 8:30/9:00. Normally I’m up at half 6ish. Thursday it’s 6:15 when the bin lorry comes Hmm

siddlydiddly · 23/10/2020 13:01

When at work I get up at 6.20am, every other time it's usually between 9 and 10am if I have no plans. It actually takes me ages to pull myself together to get up. DH leaves the house at 7am and I have my best sleep when he's not in bed with me Grin

mich2020 · 23/10/2020 13:03

School mornings 6-6.15am as have to leave the house at 7.55. If weekends and not working it varies. Depends how late we've stayed up and if DP wakes me. But I could sleep for England so today for instance. Done school run. Got back into bed at 9 asleep again by 10 and woke up at 12.30. This half term and week off work is much needed x

TurnTheRadioOn · 23/10/2020 13:19

I'm an early bird. 4 or 5 most days and I need to leave for work at 6.30.

Sometimes I do housework, sometimes a bit of work work, sometimes watch a film...

At the weekend, I might have a lie in until 7ish but I'm rarely in bed later than that.

Sometimes I treat myself to a mid morning nap at around 10 if I'm at home with not much to do.

The4ks · 23/10/2020 13:22

Early bird here too.

On work days I'm up about 5, but wake up naturally between 6 and 7 other days.

Might sneak in an afternoon nap if I can though haha!

stayathomer · 23/10/2020 13:24

Before I had kids and on days off I'd never be out of bed before ten. Now I have kids and write for a living an up about five or six most mornings so I can get 2 hours in before they're up

RedRec · 23/10/2020 13:30

Set alarm for 6:30 and 6:45, get up at 6:45. Every day. Love getting up early. Wasn't always so, though.

Crawl out of bed at 9.50. At desk by 10am. Shower during lunch at 12.30. Work officially until 6.30 - usually much later.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 23/10/2020 13:42

I'm an early bird. 5am on weekdays, between 6 and 7 on weekends. I'm in bed before 10pm on weekdays.

Livpool · 23/10/2020 13:46

I get about 6.30 for work but can happily slept til about 10

ChickenDoughnut · 23/10/2020 13:49

Weekdays 6.45am

Weekends I wake up naturally about 7-7.30am, but often lounge about until 10-ish.

Crunchymum · 23/10/2020 14:31

Pre kids was probably 7am weekdays and 9/10am weekends (unless hungover)

Post kids its 6.45am weekdays and max 8am weekends.

Not a huge change.

kaleishorrid · 23/10/2020 15:10

Glad to see I am not just a lazy arse. I did used to get up when DD was small but she is now away at university so no urgency.

DH is a night owl, as is DD now, so even at 9.30 - when we are all home - I am still the first one up.

I do love lying in till 11 or so but then I feel like I've lost the day. And I struggle to sleep at night then get in to a vicious circle which means getting up tired for work.

As I said - would love to be an early bird and get stuff done in the morning and relax in the afternoons - but at 53 I don't think it's going to change now. A combination of a mother who never let me lie in (think up at 8 on a Saturday "in case anybody comes round") and a husband who can sleep for England.

At the moment I wake up naturally between 6.30-7.30am and I'm happy with that.

In summer I wake up as soon as it's light which is really bloody annoying.
