I'd like to get her a dress for Xmas, from vampires wife collection, but not sure what adult size she would be? Slim 13 year old?

Thanks

V difficult question to answer. Depending on dress and height and whether she would tolerate a bit of growing room at the beginning.

Petalbird · 20/10/2020 06:38

What clothes size is she normally. You can usually work it out from the size guides online

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2020 06:42

In child sizes she's a 13 and 13 to 14.

It depends on what you mean by slim. My tall 11yr old wears age 13 clothes and also size 8. But they are in my opinion big in her, but she prefers that. I think H&M come up small?

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2020 06:56

Dd is average about 5 1 at the moment?

That's useful so maybe an 8 to be on the safe side or a 6...

The dress is quite loose

Check the returns policy - at some point stores will extend to cover Christmas so if you wait until then and can have the money tied up for a while buy more than one size. If she has anything even vaguely similar in style either measure or take with you and check against options in shops.

passthemustard · 20/10/2020 07:10

My DD19 is 5'4 and wears a 4 but my DD13 is 5'1 and wears a 6 but struggles with straps on things being too long.
They're both tiny but my eldest is skinny and my youngest athletic

Digeridont · 20/10/2020 07:13

My slight 12yo is a size 4, or a 6 with growing room.

Digeridont · 20/10/2020 07:14

Meant to say, she’s wearing age 11 kids clothes.

Fizbosshoes · 20/10/2020 07:17

My DD is 5'1 and not particularly skinny but she wears size 4 or 6 for fitted clothes.....but also likes mens jumpers....Confused

AuditAngel · 20/10/2020 07:19

DD1 is13, athletic build and about 5’5”

Depending on the style i would buy a 6 or an 8 usually. If the style is loose, i would probably go down. She tends to wear 14+ in H&M to fit her legs/bottom and around her arms as she is an athlete and muscular.

BillieEilish · 20/10/2020 07:20

DD is 12.5, 5'1'' and skinny. She is the smallest adult size possible, 4/6 or extra small. The clothes still are fairly lose.

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 20/10/2020 07:20

When I was size 8 I fitted easily in the kids size 14+ In H&M so I’d guess size 6/8 depending on the style of the dress

Karwomannghia · 20/10/2020 07:20

I’d go smaller at H&M now their sizes seem huge. Get a 6 or even a 4.

StormyInTheNorth · 20/10/2020 07:26

I think H&M go free returns, get both and see. I think a six is something like 24 in waist (from shaky memory).

MadameMinimes · 20/10/2020 07:27

As a secondary school teacher in a girls school that sees hundreds of teenage girls every day my first thought was that slim 13 year olds vary hugely in build and size. I know some tiny 13 year olds that would be swamped in a 6 and others who are 6’ tall and slim and probably wear a 10-12. I’d buy a couple of sizes if you can afford to and then return the one that doesn’t fit.

milkysmum · 20/10/2020 07:33

My dd is 11 ( but definitely more like a tall slim 13/14 year old). She is 5ft 4, and generally wears a size 8. They do vary in how they fit her though depending on the shop and cut of the outfit. Some things age is better with a size 6, other times she can get away with my size 10 stuff.

Howmanysleepsnow · 20/10/2020 07:35

At that height my dd was a 6 in H&M. Though waist size makes a difference too. Do you know her waist?

isthismylifenow · 20/10/2020 07:37

H&M sizings are bonkers.

I am currently wearing a top from there and its age 12-13.

So I would go for a 4 for your dd, if they have.

gretagreengrapes · 20/10/2020 07:40

Have you ever bought from the women's range in H&M? I'm a 10 in most shops and can come out of H&M with items in an 8, 16, S and XL all on the same day!

Definitely order 2 or even 3 sizes, look at them and return ones you don't want (if you're buying online)

kowari · 20/10/2020 07:47

6, maybe a 4. If you compare the child to women's size guides that may help.

crankyhousewife · 20/10/2020 07:55

H&M sizing is a nightmare. I bought my then 13 yr old a dress in an 8 which was too small and was even too small on my tiny then 14 yr old. She's 18 now and wears a 6-8 so back then an 8 should have swamped her.

Shinygoldbauble · 20/10/2020 07:56

My dd is 14. She's only 5ft tall. She is petite but quite a curvy hourglass shape. She has dresses in size 6 and XS from H&M.

Gunpowder · 20/10/2020 08:06

I think the vampires wife collab comes out at the beginning of November. If you download the H&M app you will hopefully get notifications the collection has been released but I’d check the site every morning first few days in November to make sure.

If it’s a loose dress I think either the 6 or 8 will be fine, just a slightly different look. In my experience the designer collaboration pieces have normal sizing (equivalent to e.g Topshop) rather than varying wildly.
