Do you share bath water? (Not together)

justgeton · 19/10/2020 17:52

I shower every morning and bath every evening so my bath would never be very dirty, and my husband often jumps in after me

However I would not DREAM of getting in his, despite his morning shower too.

Do you share?

Maybe this should be on AIBU but thought would keep it more light hearted

Yes, I share bath water with my kids. We don’t have a shower unfortunately. I used to share my bath water with ex husband before we split.

Emma10702 · 19/10/2020 18:26

Yes. It’s not often I manage to get a bath without a kid jumping in anyway so it’s no different really.

goldenharvest · 19/10/2020 18:28

Of course I'd share bath water, as well as a glass of wine with him in the bath and have a nice relaxing chat about our day. we share far more intimate bodily functions so why on earth would water be considered dirty?

tsmainsqueeze · 19/10/2020 18:29

Yes , husband after me , i never go in after him though, bit hairy !
One of my son's will go in after me , son's will go in after their little sister and i will go in after daughter .
We are all clean so i can't see any problem .
I mean at different times, not the same bath for all of us !

DragonflyInn · 19/10/2020 18:29

Yes we do. Much better environmentally and financially. I probably wouldn’t admit it to many people in real life though!!

TakeMeToYourLiar · 19/10/2020 18:29

Yes, we used to alternate who went first.

At the moment he always goes first because he prefers a bath at scalding and I need to let it cool down as pregnant

Hiccupiscal · 19/10/2020 18:30

Yes. Love to share with DP.

Have got in after my son.
DP doesn't get in mine as he has it so hot he could cook his dinner in it!
Wouldn't hesitate to put DC in after me.

In general though, we all have our own baths.

A tip for any of those money savers, I saw on TV once, leave the bath water in the bath to help heat your home. Empty when cold. This, and leaving the oven door open after cooking after my favourite "free heating" tips, that DP can't stand Grin

Jojobythesea · 19/10/2020 18:30

@LST

He gets in mine and the kids get in mine but I'd never get in after either of them haha 😄
Hahaha. Same
OhToBeASeahorse · 19/10/2020 18:31

DH doesn't like baths but I will jump in after DS usually, tho now nursing some post labour injuries so I'm not

Tinghtwek · 19/10/2020 18:32

we share far more intimate bodily functions so why on earth would water be considered dirty?

Why would somebody's used bath water be considered dirty? You can't figure that out for yourself?

Put it this way, would you happily drink it? If it had been clean pre-bath?

Tinghtwek · 19/10/2020 18:33

Much better environmentally and financially

As is having a bath in a river or a lake, but I don't do that either!

I'd rather just have a shower if I was that bothered about money/the environment!

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 19/10/2020 18:36

Yes but I always go in first and wouldn't go in after him! That's because I like it scorchio though and he doesn't.

SweetPetrichor · 19/10/2020 18:38

We don’t now, cause my DP rarely has baths so it’s just me having them. But we’d share the bath water in my parents house. If dad had a bath, I’d get it after him and vice versa. Mum less so cause she likes her bath really shallow and scorching hot! It saves water and money. Win win really.

Pepperwand · 19/10/2020 18:43

We used to when I was a child, often dad would have a bath and I'd jump in afterwards. Nowadays I never would, the thought makes me shudder. That said the DC do sometimes jump in my bath after I've finished as I like it scorching hot and it's cooled by then. I'm fine with anyone else using my bath water, I just don't want to use theirs Grin.

AlwaysLatte · 19/10/2020 18:44

My husband sometimes says he'll use my bath water but I'd never use his (I like to wash my hair in it before I put any product in and he likes a huge lot of bubbles).

Onlyabitmorethan3m · 19/10/2020 18:46

I used to have to do this growing up, after my DSis. I hated it. Dsis used to have Mum's bathwater too. Horrible. I used to wash in the cloakroom sinks at school in cold water rather than that. Even my hair.

AlwaysLatte · 19/10/2020 18:47

I forgot to say though that showers are my thing so if I ever have a bath it's always as well as a shower and I only have baths to ease my back pain.

S111n20 · 19/10/2020 18:48

Yes me in then my partner. When I was a child it was mum in, kids in then dad 😂

64sNewName · 19/10/2020 18:50

No, we never do this.

But as a child (1980s) I did it when staying at a friend’s house. Her whole family used to share bathwater and they expected me to take a turn in the same water. I was pretty grossed out but just did it to be polite as I knew they did a lot of things differently from us (partly because they were on an extremely low income), plus I was frightened of her unpredictable dad.

I can recall sitting miserably in the used water but I can’t remember who/how many people went in it before me.

Alfiemoon1 · 19/10/2020 18:56

No have never done this not even as a child

Chloemol · 19/10/2020 18:57

Nope

Wetweekend99 · 19/10/2020 18:58

Yes our kids share water. Also me and my husband share. I would spend all evening running 5 baths if not!

I will admit though that reading a previous post about this made me question it so we try to shower more to avoid sharing water (more so the kids) i grew up in a house where we shared and so did my husband so I guess we just never questioned it.

Hadalifeonce · 19/10/2020 18:59

Yes, both with and without DH, i.e. jumping after the other has finished.

Impatientwino · 19/10/2020 19:01

Yes we share bath water in my house. Grew up doing so too. My parents (and grandparents) considered it so wasteful to heat an entire bath of water for just one person.

We shower in the mornings and DH and I use baths as more of relaxation in the evenings rather than washing though so it's not like there's a ton of soap or shampoo in the water.

I end up doing ok though as I like my bath the hottest so always go first Grin

Floralnomad · 19/10/2020 19:01

My dh sometimes gets in after I’ve finished , I wouldn’t get in after him as like the pp I like to wash my hair before adding bubble bath etc and I also like very hot water .
