Do you share bath water? (Not together)

justgeton · 19/10/2020 17:52

I shower every morning and bath every evening so my bath would never be very dirty, and my husband often jumps in after me

However I would not DREAM of getting in his, despite his morning shower too.

Do you share?

Maybe this should be on AIBU but thought would keep it more light hearted

I often leave the water in and get in after toddler DD has had her bath. Partly to save money on heating and partly because I just don't have any free time anymore since having a baby.

TotorosFurryBehind · 19/10/2020 21:53

All the people saying it's a bit gross, have you ever used a public swimming pool...you are getting covered in the bodily fluids and pooticles of hundreds of strangers.

Surely the difference is you don't get into a public swimming pool to get clean...
YorkshireIndie · 19/10/2020 22:00

We share. LO likes to stand in the bath and then the bath gets offered up to the house. Recently though he has started having a bath with my sister when they both get in from work/nursery. It saves on the water bill. There is nothing wrong with sharing if you haven't done a wee/shave

mathanxiety · 19/10/2020 22:02

Crikey! No way.

mathanxiety · 19/10/2020 22:03

Public swimming pools are full of chlorine, and many people shower after swimming in them.

TheChosenTwo · 19/10/2020 22:21

Christ no, the thought of it makes me want to heave. Someone else’s skin cells and arse crack juice bobbing about next to me Envy
Dh and I sometimes share a shower (for reasons besides getting clean). That’s as far as it goes!

scrivette · 19/10/2020 22:27

DH goes in after me as I like my baths very hot and by the time I get out they are the correct temperature for him.

The youngest DC have a bath together and then I add as much water again for eldest DC to have his bath as he is a bit older and likes his deeper and warmer.

EmbarrassedUser · 19/10/2020 22:31

DH used to get in mine but I’d never get in his. I wouldn’t know if he’d farted In it 😂😂

Viviennemary · 19/10/2020 23:05

I couldn't believe this was actually a thing people did. It's disgusting.

cobpickles · 20/10/2020 01:22

I’m a hypocrite because I love having a bath WITH someone but the thought of jumping in after them seems disgusting

that’s definitely partly pee
soffiee · 20/10/2020 01:29

This is absolutely disgusting. We have one main bathroom and one en-suite shower. DH and I use the shower in the en-suite and DS 18 months uses the bath tub in the main bathroom. No one has ever used our bathtub apart from DS and before I fill up the tub, I wash it with flash and then clean it and fill it with water. I can't imagine my DS sitting in a dirty bathtub let alone playing in the water where my DH or me have sat in it. Eugh just no way!

LaBellina · 20/10/2020 01:37

Yes we share. Last night I washed myself from head to toe with water & soap, then enjoyed a bath with some lovely bath salts and asked DH afterwards if he wanted to use the water too, which he did. I see nothing wrong with this, surely it's also much better for the environment to not fill up the bath twice.

Hydrate · 20/10/2020 01:39

No.

standupsitdownturnaround · 20/10/2020 06:05

Grinthis thread is so funny. I love how strongly each side feels about it even thought there don't seem to be any material consequences Grin

It's made me slightly worried for when I have children because my hygiene standards are soooo far from cleaning the bath out with flash before every bath! Surely that exposes a little one to chemicals far worse? And wouldn't it deny them the chance to develop their immune system? I would assume it's a recipe for eczema and allergies but haven't read the evidence.

Bluntness100 · 20/10/2020 06:11

No, there is something about it that I just find a bit unpleasant. However I am a shower person and would only have a bath to relax in. And quite frankly I do not wish to relax in water someone else has already washed in. I also find the thought of washing myself with used water unpleasant. But if I needed to I would obviously. Being in the fortunate position that I have other options to wash myself I chose not to do so in dirty water.

Angelina82 · 20/10/2020 06:12

Yes but then you go have a shower don’t you?

I would and have happily shared baths/water with my kids when they were smaller and ex husband used to sometimes jump in after me, but it would be a cold day in hell before I bathed in a man’s old water. 🤢

Seriouslymole · 20/10/2020 09:15

Yes, every night I have the kids water and it will be DH's too if he's jumped in first. I LOVE a bath but am very aware of the environmental nightmare they are so I'm trying to do my bit!

This was my thought too! Funnily enough, I will happily get in a bath after my kids (for speed, or for a quick end of day dunk that I wouldn’t bother with otherwise), but I’m always a bit circumspect about swimming pools...especially if they are private ones which are less likely to be quite as scrupulously chlorinated etc as the public baths.
Thuglife · 20/10/2020 16:53

Dd used to have a bath every night when she was a baby/toddler. ExP always used to get in after her.
I’m on a water meter so costs a fortune & this was the man who would suck snot out her nose before she learnt how to blow it so don’t think a bit of toddler wee in the bath would have bothered him Grin

KindergartenKop · 20/10/2020 21:14

My kids share water. I don't like it though.

I once went away on holiday with a friend and she used my water after me Confused

EatPrayYoga · 20/10/2020 23:51

Not only will I not share DH's water but I will make sure the bath is washed with Flash before I run my own

StrangeAddiction · 21/10/2020 00:46

I don't like even sitting in my own scum so there's no way I'm sitting in anyone else's! 🤢🤮

Shower all the way for me.

QueenOfPain · 21/10/2020 00:51

The situation hasn’t arisen in many years, but yes, in the past I have shared bath water. With my mum as a child, or a partner as an adult.

The band No Doubt have a song called Bathwater which is about exactly this thing and also sharing a toothbrush. So Gwen Stefani also has no qualms about taking the second bath of the evening.
