I need your help, hive mind
I will be opening a shop, an independent selling clothing (lesser known brands, maternity stuff) and locally made jewellery etc
I’m struggling with the name
This is my shortlist:
Blossom&robes
Luxeduck
Pushvelvet
Stellarobes

Do you have a favourite and any other suggestions would be appreciated? Thanks!

Blomma (flower in Swedish)

ThePawtriarchy · 19/10/2020 04:00

How about Astrid - I think it has meanings of goddess / divine strength etc.

RaisinGhost · 19/10/2020 04:26

I think luxeduck is a bit strange, sorry.

Phoebe's loft/attic sounds nice but agree with pp about potential misspelling issues.

Ginandplatonic · 19/10/2020 04:37

I find quite a few of the suggestions here twee or old fashioned. Same with anything with Blossom, Bee, Attic, Closet or your child’s name.

If you go with name + name they need to be surnames and quite “tailored” to give you the feel you’re going for.

A word in a Scandinavian language might be good too.

Or something quirky and odd - along the lines of LuxeDuck but that’s not quite right. Grey Something or White Something?

LoveFall · 19/10/2020 05:20

How about Blossoming Expectations, to emphasize the maternity aspect? Or Glowing Expectations.

Maireas · 19/10/2020 05:51

Luxe duck is, as people have said, like a toilet cleaner. Avoid anything too twee. Why not just your name, or just call it Phoebe?

Antonov · 19/10/2020 05:59

This is my shortlist:
Blossom&robes
Luxeduck
Pushvelvet
Stellarobes

If it's maternity what about Push Duck

Bikingbear · 19/10/2020 06:22

The best suggestion I've seen on here is Jeans&Jems. It has a seriously catchy ring to it. Describes casual and more formal dress in the jems bit.

Blossom anything either makes you think florist or maternity. At first I liked LuxDuck, thinking about the Midlands area where they call people Duck but it needs to have national appeal. And the loo cleaner doesn't help.

I'd steer clear of stuff that is hard to spell including foreign words and phases.
I'm trying to work out how Eden is associated with Scandinavia, and not the biblical Garden of Eden?

Vello · 19/10/2020 06:45

Phoebe does mean bright -- the light of the moon as Selene drove her moon chariot across the sky. But in Norse (Scandi) mythology the moon is a man, Mani - the hastener and counter of years.

(Eden is Sumerian-- steppe /well watered place. It's not remotely Scandinavian. Aurora means Dawn, so sort of the opposite of Phoebe, Queen of the Night, but connected.)

A Bright Thread
Månens Tråder
The Dawn
Solmani

Vello · 19/10/2020 06:51

Dark and Bright

Ginandplatonic · 19/10/2020 06:53

Thinking about it I like single one syllable word names for the style you describe.

Nest
Moth
Cocoon (2 syllables obvs)
Grey
Leaf
Bird (RedBird, GreyBird, WhiteBird, BlackBird...)

Bikingbear · 19/10/2020 07:00

Sorry I don't like these suggestions they don't make me think women's wear or what the OP is trying to sell.

A Bright Thread - great for a haberdashery
Månens Tråder - sounds like menswear
The Dawn - Coffee shop / bakers with papers and fresh bread.
Solmani - Ethnic menswear

So conclusion avoid words with 'man' in them they make you think menswear.

Bubbletrouble43 · 19/10/2020 07:01

Blossom and Be, if its a maternity wear shop especially, is a great name.

ladyandthechocolate · 19/10/2020 07:14

Loads of new messages- I’ll be back later after the school run to have a read

OP posts:
Hyperfish101 · 19/10/2020 07:14

I think a single word would work.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 19/10/2020 07:17

Further upthread I think the OP said it would be a quarter (or another fraction) maternity wear. Others pointed out that there may not be a huge mid priced market for maternity wear in her area. If she narrows the name down to a specialist area that may or may not take off, she is narrowing her options once she knows what will sell. I suggested Gems because she also mentioned jewellery, plus it encompasses general good finds of any nature. Maybe not that, but something generic and brief is what I'd be aiming for.

Straven123 · 19/10/2020 07:27

Bloom and Bling
If you are online do you want a 'quaint' Englishness to attract foreign buyers? - not that I can think of anything. Lady Ann?
Also the craft side of it - Designs, Original, Unique, Gems.

Margaret's Choices - quite British

DianaT1969 · 19/10/2020 07:55

Adored
Lemon Fizz
The Peach Tree
Orchard
Silk & Stone

purringpaws · 19/10/2020 07:59

Does the shop have a street number?

"Number 19" "number 63". Not a brilliant idea though.

Something with Lavender in the title?

I'm finding all suggestions so twee and sound like a shop that will be there and gone again in 3 months. Your business sounds like it has more promise than that.

Coffeecak3 · 19/10/2020 08:01

I like Adored.
It applies to every woman.
Easy to remember.
Not too common.

Straven123 · 19/10/2020 08:01

Mums and Magpies

Coffeecak3 · 19/10/2020 08:02

Also similar to adorned.

Coffeecak3 · 19/10/2020 08:03

@purringpaws but Lavender is so old ladies.

Chevronsoup · 19/10/2020 08:23

@PilliChant

Blomma (flower in Swedish)

I love this

EmmaGrundyForPM · 19/10/2020 09:10

There is a lovely shop I know which sells gorgeous clothes, accessories, jewellery etc called Muse. I think a name like that would work.
What about:

Thoughtful
Musa (Swedish for muse)
Wonderful Things
Sonnet (or Sonata)
