Me and DS spent this evening planning

some detonations we’d love to visit. It was a lovely way to take our mind off things and I’m thinking of actually creating a kind of ‘inspiration board’ full of pictures of the places we’d like to go. We’ve never been far so our choices are a bit vague.

I wonder if any well travelled MNers could whittle it to a more specific area for us ?!

I would love to go to Vermont or similar, or somewhere in Canada with breathtaking scenery, forests, rivers, mountains, waterfalls. Log cabin. Autumn.

Top of his list is Japan. Inspired by Spirited Away. Food, scenery again, tech etc.

Plus any more suggestions would be wonderful Flowers

This is probably more of a dream board than an inspiration board, for me at least, but we found it very therapeutic just thinking about it

Sounds explosive!

I've always fancied Antarctica. Or a long train journey... across Canada or across Russia into Asia perhaps.

SingleHandSue · 15/10/2020 19:18

I spend far too many hours of my life fantasising about visiting gorgeous places in the world.

The truth is I’ve never even left these shores Blush

I’ve travelled extensively via google maps though!

JulietteLeGall · 15/10/2020 19:19

We once thought about taking our bikes on the Eurostar and back packing around Europe, mainly France, Belgium and Germany

I’d really love some ideas of places to put on the board, I came across a stunning picture of Vermont, that’s what gave me the idea.

Sounds like you planned a blast of a time!!

SingleHandSue · 15/10/2020 19:22

Lake Bled in Slovenia looks like my dream destination.

Like you I love looking of photos of Vermont, I particularly like to google images of gorgeous little towns in the US during Christmas.

Breckinridge Colorado looks gorgeous too.

Jugglingalloftheballs · 15/10/2020 19:22

Some friends holidayed in a caravan across the west coast of America and their kids still go on about how it was the best holiday ever! And they have been travelled a lot!

Aquamarine1029 · 15/10/2020 19:23

North Carolina in the US is absolutely stunning. You can visit the beaches and then head to the mountains. Asheville is gorgeous and you can tour Biltmore and the Smokey Mountains.

emala · 15/10/2020 19:28

Iceland is beautiful in a very different way. I saw the Northern Lights there and went whale watching. The most amazing scenery, waterfalls & geysers. Highly recommend

Lightsabre · 15/10/2020 19:31

South Africa! Has everything - stunning scenery and beaches, whale watching and safaris, amazing food and wines...

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 15/10/2020 19:32

We did a 3 week summer hols trip in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine last summer with teenage dc. Highly recommend Maine over all - Arcadia national park is completely stunning , Portland in Maine is a lovely city with lots of craft beer. You can get some amazing waterfront properties at the end of summer . Only downside is a few midges but not Scottish level of infestation

Lightsabre · 15/10/2020 19:32

... and New Zealand of course - great for adventurous teens too.

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 15/10/2020 19:35

I'm currently obsessing about driving the Colorado hot springs loop over a couple of weeks

Also hiking king Ludwigs way in Germany and kayaking the orca highway from Seattle

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 15/10/2020 19:38

Oh and Hilton head island in South Carolina - have spent new year there in a villa for the past couple of years .

It's off season, amazing cycling like nothing I've experienced in usa and pristine beaches with dolphins to see as you walk along . It's amazing

Dh works for an airline and I am very much missing staff travel to the USA

octoberfarm · 15/10/2020 19:39

Vermont is gorgeous. I've spent a few summers there and the weather is warm in the day and cool (hoodies and jeans) at night, making it perfect for sitting out on the porch with a blanket, or around a fire. It's heaven in the fall, too. There's a gorgeous little town called Woodstock with sweet cafes and a general store, and a lovely New England small-town atmosphere. Really cozy. Burlington is gorgeous too - colorful, alive and sat right on the lake. So much to do there. The state is filled with lakes, scenic spots and watering holes (public access areas where you can go swimming in the river or picnic on rocks alongside the water). If it wasn't so cold in the winter, we'd move there in a heartbeat! Hope you get to go one day OP!

ssd · 15/10/2020 19:43

Op, you'd love The Laurentians, a mountain range in quebec.

@SingleHandSue I’ve been to Brekinridge afew times and honestly if you’re looking for a picture postcard winter town you can’t really beat Vail just up to the raid or it’s much smaller sister resort Beaver Creek. In the summer go see Steamboat. I used to live in Colorado.

op
Pacific Coast highway road trip from the south to north California. Amazing- the most amazing trip I have taken probably.

Melbourne and it’s surrounding area- the beaches around there are unreal. Wilson’s Prom is gorgeous.

Walking around Sydney, from the botanical gardens round to the opera house. Sydney is very very stunning at each and every turn.

Caribbean coast of Central America. Fantastic scuba diving.

On my bucket list is
Alaska
Trans Siberian railway

I lived overseas for 25 years and have visited 55 countries. Some of my favourites:
NZ - amazing scenery, whale watching, penguins, fabulous wine
Western Australia: beaches, history, wine, amazing nature
Vietnam: fabulous food, exceptional value, chaotic, fascinating history

Japan is just amazing! If your DS wants a spirited away experience go to the meji jingu shrine in the park and make a wish/prayer there
