Evening snacking

Evening snacks! Yes yes I no it is not a good thing, doesn't help the waistline and not great to be eating before bed so I'm told. However.... some evenings on the box there is nothing on but cooking, baking, restaurants etc and I admit hands up I get peckish.... I know the difference between a healthier option for a snack and a let's just say not so healthy snack ( chocolate!!) so my question is to all u what's your go to snack? The ones you have when choosing to be healthier and the ones u have when you just feel like it, throwing caution to the wind and having it just because you want it. Any "different" combinations... must tries...... avoids......favourites etc

Obvs looking for suggestions lol Grin

Dry roasted peanuts, way too many! Or a Mr Kipling Unicorn slice. Or a bowl of jelly

Crinkleypeach · 14/10/2020 22:26

Awww peanuts! Yes! What is it about that kinda thing lol open a bag and before you know it they are gone!? Clearly they are putting less in the bags 😂😂

I would LOVE to snack in the evenings. If I let myself I would have toast, crisps, dips, nuts... but I would be the size of a house. So I stop eating about 6, after dinner, and don't eat again until lunchtime. But it's miserable and I am hungry a lot of the time. I would also love to have toast and honey every morning! Woe is me.

I generally have a red or pink grapefruit sometime between 9-10 other than that I try not to snack .

Crinkleypeach · 14/10/2020 22:31

Do u never just self indulge? Have a treat once a week or a month and just have that bit of toast??? I admit I am hungry or peckish by about 8/9 in the eve so I tend to do something to pass the time lol never been so ontop of my ironing! 😂😂

I refuse to buy chocolate because evening snacking is my downfall!! I have just raided my toddlers snack bag and had some strawberry pieces covered in yoghurt and some dried mango.

I've also had a bowl of crushed meringue nests with Greek yoghurt and fruit Blush hits the sweet tooth without having the calorie content of a family sized bar of dairy milk lol!!

I tend to skip breakfast and lunch and just have a big dinner and then evening snacks. Its the only way I can lose weight as I cannot give up the snacks Blush

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 14/10/2020 22:34

Twiglets are my snack of choice.

Crinkleypeach · 14/10/2020 22:38

Iv recently posted about intermittent fasting and found out what that is actually all about thanx to mumsnet I couldn't get my head around it on google. I'm goin to start that Monday I think which will mean giving up all evening snacking! That's goin to be interesting Confused

Twiglets are again a snack I always seem to finish 😂

I like toast & marmite at about 9pm or crumpets with lots of butter. And a mug of hot chocolate.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 14/10/2020 22:58

Healthy snack - usually fruit. Unhealthy snack - ideally chocolate.

A good halfway house I’ve recently discovered is Halo ice cream. It tastes lovely but much lower calorie than real ice cream. Hard to limit portion size though, the peanut butter one is amazing!

AlwaysLatte · 14/10/2020 23:04

IABVVVVVU but those plastic cheesestrings. My sons don't even like them, preferring proper cheese. Out of the fridge they come, late at night. Can I instruct my online shopping not to accept them in the basket? Oh, and peanuts as someone said earlier. Just salted ones (dry roasted ones lovely on top of a veggie curry though!)

Crinkleypeach · 14/10/2020 23:04

I'm not normally an ice cream kind of person but that sounds like a good choice! A treat but a low in calorie cheat!

It's tricky because we all try to sit down to eat dinner as a family earlier these days, 5.30 usually, which started when often my husband would have a 7.00 Zoom meeting, DS12 would go to the park at 6 or so (when it was lighter) and DS10 to his piano lessons at 6. So by the time I get to late evening I'm in and out of the snack cupboard. Also I skip breakfast so I think I've got that on my mind.

Figmentofimagination · 14/10/2020 23:42

I don't have healthy evening snacks. I save my naughty unhealthy snacks for when toddler DS is in bed so I don't have to share.
My go to is chocolate or Ben & Jerry's cookie dough ice cream. If I'm really restrained a tub of cookie dough can be stretched over 3 days. But it takes willpower.

FrenchBoule · 14/10/2020 23:46

Where are you @MarjorytheTrashHeap? I’ll get the bottle...

grassisjeweled · 14/10/2020 23:48

I'd really like cold toast, buttered, 2 slices, and a bowl of Alpen with full fat milk - but I have cottage cheese instead v

Costacoffeeplease · 15/10/2020 00:26

I’m not an evening snacker. We have dinner relatively late (8/8.30) so not much time for snacking

mrsbyers · 15/10/2020 00:28

Frozen berries and my favourite black cherries or satsumas / grapes

Choc coated rice cakes

Popcorn

mrsbyers · 15/10/2020 00:29

Oh and ice lolly’s. Fruity ones

TheHighestSardine · 15/10/2020 01:05

Evening snacking is why I am fat.

If I went to bed at 11pm I would be half my weight, I'm certain.

Bloodybridget · 15/10/2020 01:49

It's early hours of the morning snacking for me - I'm invariably awake for a while, some time between midnight and 4am, and if it goes on too long I get myself a bowl of cereal, or toast and Marmite and a cup of tea. After that I can get back to sleep quite quickly.

Frownette · 15/10/2020 01:54

I want a snack right now Grin

I might go and get a poached egg on toast.

ARoseInHarlem · 15/10/2020 01:59

A lot of these sound like a lot of effort to me. I can’t be packing eggs and making toast at that time of day.

For me, it’s a fruity yogurt, a mini Magnum, some cheez it’s (I’m in the US), some tortilla chips, fruit (but nothing that needs prep - apple, cut melon, satsumas etc), nut mix (all alternatives!).

ShopTattsyrup · 15/10/2020 02:11

Pickled gherkins straight out of the jar!!!!

jessstan1 · 15/10/2020 02:17

Cheese, alway cheese.
