We've polished off our hotel breakfasts, flocked to the beaches and eaten out to help out with Rishi. Now the D-Day style floatilla of Anti-Dementor boats weather the stormy seas of tiers 1, 2 and 3 and support each other through the calls for lockdown.

Hold on tight and get those bouyancy aids on...

@Thanksitsgotpockets

I've heard it lots in parenting and come out as very judgy behaviour. That would never happen to my child because I do xyz... So they can reassure themselves that it happened for a reason and a parent that does the right things will avoid those reasons and that being bloody unlucky never comes into it.
Not from me and my darling little Bogrolls Grin Do they really think I haven't tried a good bedtime routine at a sensible time??? It's the way they're wired... to Ratcliffe on Soar I think from their abundant energy. Gosh, I'd love to sell their superfluous energy back to the grid Grin

Been out for a walk/ run, mainly in the countryside. Lots of autumning going on including some slithery clay fields. Part of one footpath went through a pumpkin trail which was quite funny. The last six months seem so hazy and indistinct at the moment and I kind of feel tacked onto last winter IYSWIM now that we're back to dull greyness and mud.

At least I'm emotionally functional today with a normal length of fuse. Yesterday I wasn't far off from sobbing or raging at any given moment.

@Littlebelina

You know the saying "there is no such thing as bad weather just inadequate clothing"? Well it's Bullshit. Sacked off our half term outside activity and retreated back home. Luckily looks ok here for rest of week but not looking forward to winter spent mainly outside
I'm a firm believer in bad weather. That's from someone who lives in running/ outdoors gear whose house looks like an end of season sale in Go Outdoors Grin

I like the feeling of having been for a run in shit weather, sometimes even doing it when I'm warmed up and if my brain and legs co-operate. There is a defiant feeling if I'm warm and sodden in long sleeved tops and everyone else is huddled into coats and under brollies.... BUT... this does not include the presence of children. Wink

Trying to get clarification from welsh government if we can put our dogs in car and drive somewhere to exercise. Our assembly member says even she does not have a clue. It is just stupid now.

Worldgonecrazy · 21/10/2020 16:14

Whoever said that dementors think if they behave a certain way they will be safe, has hit the nail on the head. None of them are wearing masks to protect other people.

Anyone seen this thread, don't read all the messages but the OPs are very cathartic?!

@TabbyStar I was reading that thread earlier. The usual suspects piled on to berate the OP for flouting the rules.
Why is it so difficult to accept that some people are finding this situation really hard and not everyone is falling for the attention grabbing headlines which are being very economical with the truth.

TabbyStar · 21/10/2020 16:32

I quite liked the response about not passing on a virus she didn't have! My DD and her half sister have both had covid in the last few weeks - student transmission - and have both recovered, yet they are not allowed to see each other 🤷🏻‍♀️.

TheOrchidKiller · 21/10/2020 16:32

@DominaShantotto & @BogRollBOGOF
I live right on the boundary between city & county, the line is behind my back garden, which leads to interesting situations between the 2 councils when I've reported anti-social behaviour. I can see why someone further out wouldn't want to be lumped into the same tier 3 as the city, but it's harder to separate out areas the closer you get to the city.

@TabbyStar
Your DM sounds like mine. You can't take on her anxiety. I grew up behaving in such a way as to not make her anxious & it did neither of us any good. I'm sympathetic but if I disagree I say so now.

TheOrchidKiller · 21/10/2020 16:53

I'm a parent with a child who seriously "malfunctioned" for want of a better word. You can do many things to keep them safe but there are no guarantees that it won't go tits up at some point, often when you don't expect it. Bad luck, & other factors in a child's life aside from parenting & home, also come into play. The judgement DH & I got from other parents was hurtful. I really, really understand the anxiety about wanting your children to be free of all harm & hurt, but wrapping them up in cotton wool does them no favours. Unfortunately, if all your friends are also wrapping their families up in cotton wool, you are more likely to do the same, with a layer of bubble wrap & disinfectant spray on top.

@Reedwarbler I'd hug you. I'd hug anyone, & I'm not usually a hugger.

DominaShantotto · 21/10/2020 16:55

I'll admit - I'm kind of enjoying the shit weather. Despite sitting under a drip of a leaky conservatory roof... it sends the arsehole neighbour next door who is relentless for garden noise, stinky barbecues every fucking night, and now has a garden log burner he uses the nastiest shit on to light possible (it makes me physically wretch and the smoke has fucked my lungs and made me cough for a good week now - our entire house gets flooded with it) inside.

OK so now we'll get the smell of smoking coming through the walls - but at least it means the garden fun and noise has stopped for the year.

Hopefully has driven the two households next to each other out back where they love to yell and shriek about their "lesbian takeover" and get pissed and let their squeaky yappy dogs yowl all night indoors as well.

CruCru · 21/10/2020 16:56

I think I’m going to stay here (and maybe look at Style and Beauty). Last night I had loads of anxiety dreams. The one I remember was that nearly all the oxygen had disappeared from the air so everyone had to stay indoors where oxygen was being pumped in by our evil overlords. Presumably this was a combination of Coronavirus and environmental concerns.

Sorry, it’s really boring hearing about other people’s dreams.

BogRollBOGOF · 21/10/2020 17:17

I like random dreams. I like dreaming at the moment. More varied than real life!

I had a relative that had a county boundary down the middle of the road and tended to find herself on the wrong side for leisure centres and school applications. Long since moved now and both sides will be tier 2 at present and put in at the same time. Local news has had a story this afternoon about a village split down the road on the Derbs/Notts border.

The problem with Nottingham is that the city council makes up the main core of the city only and not much of the suburbs... which also includes high rates at the main campus of Nottingham Uni which is not indicative of the prevelance in the main community around the surrounding areas or through the county.

So far Derbyshire seems to have tier 2ed the hotspot borough councils along the Notts border or north of the county nearly 2 hours away, rather than a blanket approach.

Aaaand there we go, likely to be a Nottingham & Notts tier 3 from Monday. Police & Crime Commissioner asking for 1m quid to help deal with house parties & tram stops.

Bloody marvellous.

I see Nicola has extended the hospitality shut down by another week. No surprise there then.

I have the bloody hairdressers booked next week. They are NOT stopping that again! Nottingham hasn't had the time in tier 2 for that to take effect fully - we've had about a bloody week!
AcornAutumn · 21/10/2020 17:54

The combination of this weather and the state we’re in, ugh.

Tomorrow my mum is having a council worker round to fit a lifeline button. We’re in Tier 2 so we’re really hoping the council worker understands why I’m there supervising it. Mum won’t understand or be able to ask the right questions.

I said to mum we should both wear masks to look like we’re being careful. In reality, of course caring for someone involves close contact sometimes, but as everyone seems to have taken leave of their senses...

TheOrchidKiller · 21/10/2020 18:10

@DominaShantotto
Oh no, the hairdressers! I booked last week but there's a 4 week wait so I can't get mine done until next month. Knew this would happen. I have absolutely nothing nice in the pipeline.

Looking at the tier3 guidance & it only mentions pubs shutting, nothing about hairdressers. Surely, if you're masked, visored, doused in disinfectant etc etc you can have your hair cut? It seems to be one of the more carefully controlled environments.

@AcornAutumn
I'm sure the alarm fitting person will understand. I visit people in your mum's situation all the time. I wear a mask but the others in the house don't have to. It makes total sense for you to be there.

AcornAutumn · 21/10/2020 18:13

Orchid

Thank you, that’s helpful to know.

I hear so many stories of people who only drop off food for 85 year olds etc and then the food packaging is wiped down...

This lady is obviously doing better than mum but I so agree with her!

And I love hearing people's dreams!

justasking111 · 21/10/2020 18:33

They had been asking for N Wales cases in the hospital and it was like pulling hens teeth. Finally they admitted in the whole of n wales, from Deeside to Barmouth they had 25. Now dont get me wrong they have had 6 deaths in the last month, but they did not say if they were in hospital, at home or in a care home. Also no ages were mentioned but the bulk of the cases were in two small hospitals which are principally for geriatric care.

HeIenaDove · 21/10/2020 18:33

I have an appointment booked for tomorrow (mind you when i booked it the older woman behind the desk kept saying the 27th? And i had to keep saying the 22nd So i hope she has written it down correctly as they are no longer handing out appointment cards. I had an old card on me at the time (i booked this when i was at my Sept appointment) so it is written on there but in my writing.

I fucking hope they dont close again.

a. how can the independents survive if they do They have already lost a lot of money including what they would have made in prom season.
b. they would lose a lot if closed in the run up to Christmas.

c. And personally looking and feeling like a scruff isnt conducive to healthy eating and looking after yourself.

They have a lot to learn about the human psyche. Especially womens.

Sounds like the premise of "The running man" by Stephen King.
BogRollBOGOF · 21/10/2020 18:46

The DCs are getting due for another mum-do... one reason for their longer hair is because it grows rampently anyway.

When DH went off to the barbers, he was quite impressed at being able to do a proper cut straight off rather than having to do what he could around randomly hacked layers that take several cuts to grow back properly. I was quite chuffed at the compliment!

Someone had details passed on after walking outside with the person for 15 mins.

Coach driver in tears on the news. Gone bust.

No trips booked between 25th Oct and 17th April.
