We've polished off our hotel breakfasts, flocked to the beaches and eaten out to help out with Rishi. Now the D-Day style floatilla of Anti-Dementor boats weather the stormy seas of tiers 1, 2 and 3 and support each other through the calls for lockdown.

Hold on tight and get those bouyancy aids on...

@TheOrchidKiller thank you. I keep silently crying, but compared to many other people I/we are in a good situation, so I then tell myself off, mentally pull my socks up and carry on. (And pour another glass of wine).
What really annoys me on certain threads (you know the ones I mean) is that you must not only comply with all the various rules and regulations, you must also agree that they are a good idea and that they are the solution to the virus.. I comply with the laws because I am a bit of an old fart and my life is hardly a whirl of social nightlife, but I most certainly don't agree with them. A lot of them are unproven knee jerk responses to an out of control situation. I am horrified by some of the replies on mumsnet which are akin to brainwashed (and almost nazi like) responses. I think there are people who would happily, for example imprison non mask wearers or people having 'illegal' gatherings. Who are these people who would do that? Do they really exist? I know no-one in real life who thinks like this. I know elderly people who have been scared into submission, but they don't berate the behaviour of others.

Between 2000 and 2500 positive cases from last week are going to be asked to contact their close contacts themselves. Our track and trace also an absolute shambles.

Massive queues outside shops like penneys (primary) and other retail outlets that are closing.

Government bringing in laws to fine people €1000 if caught having a house party and a sliding scale of fines for breaking lockdown rules.

Our six weeks starts at midnight. I'm trying to come up with ways to not lose my sanity and not put on more covid pounds. I am so fed up with this existing and not living.

TabbyStar · 21/10/2020 19:31

Transport that takes kids to school wont exist

Same issue with other private companies in the public sector supply chain, I was reading something in the paper about one that makes specialist food for care homes (easy to chew / swallow etc.) - because the other part of their business is struggling because no events or whatever catering, the whole thing might disappear. Lots of questions in my ltd co directors FB group about insolvency and closing businesses down.

To be fair, other than in schools and similar, I've not really understood why we couldn't have done this from the off and saved a lot of money! I know who I've spent time with - if I had a positive test result I could tell them. I suppose if they were eligible for financial support that wouldn't work, but for most people?

IAintentDead · 21/10/2020 19:33

All South Yorks got dumped into tier 3 without any nuance.

About a mile from where I live, I can stand with a foot each in Sheffield and Barnsley and take the next step into Rotherham.

Liking Private Eye"s new cover.

BogRollBOGOF · 21/10/2020 19:35

Wealth is health. On a personal level and funding public services. I just don't grasp how people don't see that. Especially here where people are articulate and of a generally decent level of education and tending to be more Labour leaning.
Then again, people that struggle know from first hand experience.

I'm not often in a situation to need the test and trace app. I download it if required and delete. I can't be doing with it constantly berating me for not having it on when I'm at home. I can't say that I fully trust it either.

I agree with you there. I just think it's a bit rich asking them a week after their positive test.

BREAKING: Government insists Manchester’s £22 million support package is actually very generous, as that sort of money could run a failed test and trace system for over 14 minutes.

Hi everyone,

I'm the OP from the 'other' thread. A couple of kind posters have signposted me here after reading the exchanges of views. Thank you 🙂

The truth is that I was frustrated this morning with our imminent move to Tier 3 and just needed to vent. It was cathartic and I feel better. I haven't broken any rules to date and have no intention of running amok in the north of England and infecting anyone ☺️ However I completely understand that we all need to do something different to get through this and I certainly won't be offering up moral judgement on anyone.

I just hope to join in and perhaps get a few tips on how to best survive the winter nights.

Thanks again for the invite. I look forward to chatting 😍

IAintentDead · 21/10/2020 20:33

Welcome @NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace, really pleased to see you made it here. Some have us labelled as - well - all sorts of things but we are just finding our way through the mess and it seems like I wasn't the only one that thought you belonged on here.

DominaShantotto · 21/10/2020 20:35

Greetings - I think I missed the other thread - my fuckwit tolerance is low today so I've been offline most of the day. Not many of us run amok - we're just fucked off and like to have a vent and try to get some sanity in the world. Talk about all kinds of shite on here.

Can hear bangs in the distance - must be the army again - good point of living here is that I've never had a pet bothered by fireworks noise as we get it low level with the ranges all the year round.

My sleep is fucked again - I'm getting through a ridiculous number of podcasts on a night (sleep headphones are awesome) to the point my uni lecturer was recommending them to me the other day! I know so much utterly useless shit that comes in handy on my course - mainly picked up from random podcasts, or Operation Ouch!

Bollss · 21/10/2020 20:37

Oh good Christ I just made the mistake of wandering on to a Brexit thread. Made me think back to when everything thought we'd starve to death because covid. Gone back to starving to death because Brexit again now.

People enjoy this don't they?

HeIenaDove · 21/10/2020 20:41

"And personally looking and feeling like a scruff isnt conducive to healthy eating and looking after yourself.
They have a lot to learn about the human psyche. Especially womens".

Hence why lipstick wasn't rationed during The War.

@Reedwarbler
"I keep silently crying, but compared to many other people I/we are in a good situation, so I then tell myself off, mentally pull my socks up and carry on"
Don't tell yourself off. It's allowed to feel like you do, regardless of your circumstances. A counsellor told me once that being kind to yourself was important in coping with bad times.

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace
Welcome. I read the beginning of the thread you started & I got what you were on about immediately.

As for getting through long winter nights....I am home alone (DH & DS gone to watch footy at the pub whilst they still can). PARTY TIME! (Just me & the cat enjoying the quiet, should any covid marshalls be lurking).

Just had a text from a friend. Her father turns 90 in a care home next week. Presents are to be dropped off 48 hours in advance to be quarantined. He cannot communicate after a severe stroke. No visits allowed. The care home have said they are seriously worried about him as he has no interest in anything anymore. He previously had visits from family at least 3 times a week. My friend says he now has no one to chat with as staff too busy. They have been told no prospect of even FaceTiming or calling him on Christmas Day as too many residents and staff will be too busy. They have even stopped his paper as too great a risk in Covid times ! How is this living and why are we accepting that this sort of existence (and that is all it is) is a price worth paying ?

HeIenaDove · 21/10/2020 20:57

That M.E.N article upthread was good Helena . Some proper investigative journalism, that seems to be lacking in the mpnational press.
