We've polished off our hotel breakfasts, flocked to the beaches and eaten out to help out with Rishi. Now the D-Day style floatilla of Anti-Dementor boats weather the stormy seas of tiers 1, 2 and 3 and support each other through the calls for lockdown.

Hold on tight and get those bouyancy aids on...

I feel very sad today, I have been to church and so wish we could sing and have the church full again, it feels so lonely and strange to sit on your own so far from everyone.

My DD’s wedding has had to be brought forward and is now going ahead on 3rd November, her future MIL is seriously ill with no firm diagnosis but survived cancer a few years ago and it looks like a recurrence. My first husband, DD’s father, died 12 years ago and her fiancé’s father is dead so they felt they couldn’t risk waiting and not having his mum there either.

My DM died 2 years ago and would have been so excited that her DGD was getting married. I feel there are too many people missing and although we plan a celebration party later it is not the same.

Life really seems to have been stripped of most of its joys and even a special day like a wedding is overshadowed and it is in an area where they may tip into Tier 2 at any time so the cup of tea and cake we have planned afterwards would not officially be allowed either.

countrygirl99 · 18/10/2020 13:11

@Evenstar I hear you. My DS was married in early July. They needed to get married so they could emigrate to her country without having to prove at a Heathrow check in desk that they had been living together for at least 2 years. Her parents couldn't be there as they were stuck in Abu Dhabi where her dad works. It all felt a bit sad with just me and DH there. We only had a few days to organise things and their flight was 2 days later. Goodness knows when we will see them again.

Evenstar · 18/10/2020 13:15

@countrygirl99 sorry to hear that, I hope that like us you will be able to celebrate at another time 💐

TheOrchidKiller · 18/10/2020 13:16

@Evenstar
You're right, it's the lack of joy. Singing is a basic human activity to express yourself & it feels so wrong to suppress it. Fingers crossed for your DD.

@AcornAutumn
Thanks for the kitten. It just wanted a cuddle. What a metaphor for us all. A big cuddle to everyone today.

Now, off to find the cat & see if he'll oblige...

BogRollBOGOF · 18/10/2020 13:59

I don't want to set foot in church until it is mask-free and filled with singing.

In snippets of life contining despite the virus, or more accurately the measures against it, I've just managed to run my second half marathon of the year and am wearing my lurvely new medal. Looks like 3 races this year is it. My 10 miler next month has been pulled by the council this week... we're being groomed for tier 2 which is spreading through the county faster than an exponentially spreading virus.

Thank you so much for that kitten @AcornAutumn - I'm now all kitten broody and wondering if my two cats would tolerate a third.. I also wanted to thank someone who several threads ago gave really good advice on Vitamin D levels. I've upped mine quite significantly, and it has to be the reason why I'm feeling more positive generally. It can't be anything else, given where we are...

Taswama · 18/10/2020 16:40

We drove past a village church on the way back from our country walk earlier. It had a sign outside - church now open 10am to 6pm.
I said to DP: 'why did they ever close them, its not like they will have been full'. He said : yes and they tend yo be well ventilated too and a good place for older people to meet up and feel part of the community.
We're not churchgoers but I was part of a choir at work and I really miss that.

There seems to be some positive news about a vaccine today which is good

So glad it is helping. There are some that say Vitamin D is more like a hormone as it is involved in all our bodily functions.

I have felt so much better since mine has improved. Still have ups and downs but normal ones. B12 and D3 are my life savers

HeIenaDove · 18/10/2020 17:27

Channel 4 at 6pm. Live..............Divided Britain The Lockdown Debate.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 18/10/2020 17:42

Hi all. Waiting on the government here to decide if we are going to level 4, level 5 or some made up bullshit in between.

My dad had an accident late last night and we didn't know if he was alive or dead until this morning. No one allowed in to the hospital, he didn't have his phone and we couldn't get through to talk to anyone.

It makes it hit home how many people are are left without support in situations like that. It's awful.

HeIenaDove · 18/10/2020 17:53

@NowYouListenToMeFella Sorry to hear that Very stressful and worrying.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 18/10/2020 17:59

Thanks Helena. We were all very relieved this morning. Alive and kicking, thankfully.

Can I ask how much Vit D you recommend to take? I can't remember how much you said previously.

amicissimma · 18/10/2020 18:05

The Telegraph letters page has a good mix of GPs writing in saying how they've been open all along, no one needs to go without an appointment, and patients writing to say how they can't get a GP appointment, and certainly not a face to face one, at all.

One even remarked that GPs seem to have a lot of time to write letters to The Telegraph lately!

The C of E had the brilliant idea that even the Vicar wasn't allowed in the church, even the ones that live in adjoining properties. So they had to do online church from their homes while the church stood empty.

It's hard to see how a virus could spread from only one person going into a building once a week and no one else going in.

Taswama · 18/10/2020 19:02

That is truly ridiculous Amicis !

HeIenaDove · 18/10/2020 19:14

Well that Channel 4 debate was a waste of an hour. Just a fucking blame fest with members of the public blaming each other and punching down instead of up.

DominaShantotto · 18/10/2020 19:20

Yet another thread on here where anyone concerned about how this is going to fuck kids up for years and years to come is just bashed down as wanting grannies and individual posters' relatives dead personally.

You can't argue with stupid. It's just "oh you're just upset your kiddies can't have play dates" versus "I will DIEEEE"

ISaySteadyOn · 18/10/2020 19:47

Yes, but it's not unreasonable to be upset at no play dates. Socialisation is important for child development and play dates are a way to get that socialisation.

I managed precisely 24 seconds before I switched over, and 13 of that was looking for and using the remote
TheOrchidKiller · 18/10/2020 20:06

I've been mostly doing colouring in today. Living the dream.

I hope your dad recovers well @NowYouListenToMeFella.

IAintentDead · 18/10/2020 20:16

@NowYouListenToMeFella

I take 8000iu per day in winter and 4iu in summer. And that is now my levels are good. For the first 6 months I took 20,000iu every day then went to 10,000. At the end of this my levels were the high end of normal and my GP said she had to swallow her words as she had thought that would be far too much.

Now I take 8,000iu and 4,000 alternate days in winter and 4,000 daily in summer. (They come in 4,000 gels)

NHS recommends 100ui (I think) and no more than 1,000ui.

Toxicity has only been found in people taking 40,000 daily for a number of months.

The max in one gel you now seem to be able to order is 4,000.

I suggest that you get some 4000iu gels and take them as you see fit.

these possibly
And also look at the Vitamin D society website.
