...what would you ask for?

I am unimaginative and lucky to not need anything. Please help!

OP posts:
PolkadotGiraffe · 13/10/2020 22:23

It is my birthday soon! Nobody to buy me anything (my children are too small but want to make me a cake Grin) so I have bought myself an olive tree for my garden, Christmas lights, some perfume, a patio heater, an Osprey bag and a coat from Jigsaw. Smile

Wormwoodgal · 13/10/2020 23:20

I've got a big birthday coming up and I've asked for this framed print - it looks to me like he (and it's definitely a he if you peer closely) is flashing,
It'll make me smile every time I see it! Not sure what other people will make of it though.

If it was your birthday soon...

My last birthday I wanted a bottle of southern comfort, pink gin, fancy warm gloves, a big changing robe, some books and I don't remember what else. Got one of the books and some chocolate.

I bought myself this book and a changing robe.

NorthernChinchilla · 13/10/2020 23:29

I hit 40 tomorrow and I have no idea!!

DappledThings · 13/10/2020 23:49

Anything from www.goodgifts.org or www.choose.love.

Polkadot giraffe have a lovely birthday 🎈. We used to stand outside Poundland and send dds in with a fiver to buy us stocking fillers as soon as they were old enough. They loved it. 😁

cobblers123 · 14/10/2020 08:24

It's my birthday tomorrow and although I know I will get at least two presents from my two best friends, my dad is 91 and probably won't even remember a card as he is now so forgetful.

I'm not big on birthdays, I am going to have a nice day at the garden centre tomorrow with one friend spending some tokens I got when I retired last December (I am hoping to get a David Austin climbing rose) and a takeaway tomorrow night with my other best friend so I will buy a lovely dessert and a bottle of something bubbly to celebrate.

I really don't need anything else. Smile

BarbaraofSeville · 14/10/2020 08:51

Gin or fizz, any type as long as it's not pink.

No point specifying other things like cups, coats etc because once I've done the work of choosing one, I might as well just buy it.

I buy all my books when they're 99p on kindle and am at the stage where my virtual 'to be read' pile will probably outlast me.

This is a great idea. I bet they made some funny choices! Smile
FloydWasACat · 14/10/2020 12:00

I asked for a Sonic toothbrush for my birthday a few years ago too, love it!
This year I got shit presents. Hey ho.

Spied · 14/10/2020 12:04

Simple ball silver studs.

Batfinklestein · 14/10/2020 12:51

@Wormwoodgal I saw that bat print at a Wallace Collection exhibition on Indian Artists. Love him!

MrsJonesAndMe · 14/10/2020 13:00

I just had mine and asked for a Lumie light. Also got some slippers and lovely chocolates.

Wormwoodgal · 14/10/2020 13:18

@Batfinklestein yes, that's where I saw it. Fab exhibition!

Batfinklestein · 14/10/2020 13:58

He’s lovely @Wormwoodgal Smile

Sorry for slight derailing there OP!
I have a big birthday coming soon and I have asked for Liberty vouchers, and given DH a brief for a necklace.
I would also always welcome Jo Malone or Diptyque candles, fancy bath stuff, boxes of chocolates or champagne too.

PolkadotGiraffe · 15/10/2020 03:01

Oh also, if stuck for ideas... you need a Mova Globe in your life. They are just perfect.

Also: good kitchen utensils... Le Creuset stuff, a proper spice grinder, mandolin, etc (if you like to cook!). A life membership for the Wine Society is fantastic, so much better value than supermarkets. Wink Also hygging up your home is a great idea right now with everything that's happening so snuggly bedspreads and blankets... I want some tools for my log fire too. Maybe a shelter for outside and/ or a firepit and some outdoor lights? Nice winter coat and hat and scarf to keep you warm on walks? Or a projector to watch films cinema style and snuggle up at home? Smile

Seafog · 15/10/2020 03:29

It's my birthday in 2 weeks, I'm asking for kayaking gear, and a selection of nice ciders
Also happy birthday!

MinnieMountain · 15/10/2020 05:58

Mine is next month. I rarely ask for anything (not bothered) but I really want some hiking poles.

footprintsintheslow · 15/10/2020 07:05

Nice long length pyjamas
Silicone baking 'tins'
Fabric scissors
Sewing machine
Good socks
Good rucksack
Baking beads
New scythe
Ornate parasol.
Sanctuary shower and bath stuff.

I'm not asking for all these things. I try and keep a list on my phone as I think of things so that when it comes nearer the time my mind doesn't go blank.

footprintsintheslow · 15/10/2020 07:11

It gets better as they get older.

Someone I know is in a similar position and he orders himself stuff from Amazon and leaves it unwrapped until birthdays and Christmas and treats himself to all the goodies that he's forgotten about all year.

Bairnsmum05 · 15/10/2020 08:01

White chocolate orange Grin from DS. Nobody else to buy me presents so that is enough for me.

CatsAndEyeliner · 15/10/2020 08:04

A magazine or flower subscription.

PolkadotGiraffe · 16/10/2020 00:45

@footprintsintheslow that is a really nice idea. Smile Thank you. I'm ok about it, I am just glad they're happy after everything that's happened. And I think you're right, it won't be long until they will be getting presents for people... my son (3) got very upset when he asked where my "special toy" is (they both have a favourite that goes everywhere) and I said I didn't have it because it got lost when we moved when I was small. He keeps putting his bear in my bed at night and saying I should borrow him and give him back in the morning. 💛 And that he'll save up his pocket money to get me one of my own. Children can be so kind. 😊

footprintsintheslow · 16/10/2020 05:09

@PolkadotGiraffe he sounds so sweet and thoughtful!

BusterGonad · 16/10/2020 05:33

It's my birthday at the end of the month, I've not asked for anything but my favorite shop has just had 30% off everything so I've ordered some dresses. I'm also going to get myself a nice cake. 🎂😁
