Straw Poll: Have you turned the heating on yet?

Curious as to whether people have switched their heating back on yet? I'm funny about heating. I like a cold house. I like to see how long I can go without turning the heating back on after the summer. Still not done it but sitting here WFH and my hands are a bit numb. I really need to bite the bullet.
Interested in when people switched theirs on and where in the country you are (I'm in London).

Yes, a couple of weeks ago when it got down to 4 ish at night for a couple of days. I'm in the south west. It's still not on most days though, just half and hour to an hour on days when it dips down into single figures.

Meruem · 13/10/2020 12:55

I'm in London too. My thermostat is set to 17 overnight. Went down this morning and it said it was 17 and it felt a bit chilly. So have set it to 18.5. I always turn my heating down by about 5pm though as I like the house cool at night. If I'm cold in the evening I just throw on a blanket or heated throw. My mum has her place at 24 and it's like a sweat box!

OldEvilOwl · 13/10/2020 13:20

Yes but it hasn't been on every day just the odd day where I felt colder. Today is one of those days, but I have lit the log burner as I'm in one room and kids are at school

OldEvilOwl · 13/10/2020 13:21

I never have it on overnight though, even when its literally freezing at night

KatherineJaneway · 13/10/2020 13:22

Yes. Not regularly just a few times here and there.

dementedpixie · 13/10/2020 13:23

I never turn it off tbh. I use the thermostat to warm the house up when required. I also use a timer so it's off overnight

Wheytaminute · 13/10/2020 13:24

Yes. We put it on whenever we feel cold.

Most of the house is pretty warm as is south facing with large windows, but DH's office is cooler. As he's been WFH a lot and refuses to put on a jumper or socks he switches the heating on now and again. I'm usually moving around, exercising, cooking or cleaning so then get too hot. 🤔

formerbabe · 13/10/2020 13:29

Haven't put it on yet. Doesn't get especially cold.

Noitjustwontdo · 13/10/2020 13:30

Yes, we’ve had it on for at least an hour every day for the last 3 or so weeks. I’m in Yorkshire so it’s about 12 degrees during the day now.

Unless you can't afford it, why not just put it on when you need it? This obsession with 'have you put your heating on' is so dull. You are, everyone one of you, so dull you could easily bore everyone around you in to a coma.

Other websites are available.

And yep, mine is on right now. Draughty house, north wind and my hands and nose are freezing, even though the rest of me is warm from stripping beds.

I have to agree with this, any post that includes “I'm curious” always makes we wonder why you'd be interested in trivialities like this. Switching the heating on isn't a team sport, crack on do you, the rest of us will do us Grin
ExclamationPerfume · 13/10/2020 13:38

No. I hate to be too hot. It's been fairly warm here still.

Strange comment on a parenting website. None of its exactly thrills' 🙄

No not yet.

I also like to play the 'how long can I wait to turn it on game'.

Same..in my head it makes winter seem shorter
AdoraBell · 13/10/2020 13:43

Yes.

Natsku · 13/10/2020 13:43

Every Autumn I think I'll try and wait until October to switch the heating on then a week into September I remember that life is too short to be cold and I switch it on and relish the warmth (keep the house around 21 degrees day and night, sometimes put the air pump in the lounge up to 23 in the evening to warm us up). I am in a colder country though.

AlCalavicci · 13/10/2020 13:43

Yes mine has been on most evenings recently ( northwest) and u set it to come on this morning getting up at 4.30 to a cold house is not my idea of fun , it was around 8 or 9 here this morning.

MJMG2015 · 13/10/2020 13:45

I had mine on a couple of times when the temperature really dipped at the end of Sept. just because I wanted the house to feel cosy rather than just layer up.

It's on for a few hours most evenings now, but I don't bother in the mornings.

Right now it's off and all the doors & windows are open, but there's a definite chill in the air today. It'll be on again later!!

I don't use the program/auto setting at this time of year as I often have all the doors & windows open and forget to turn
it off 🙇🏻‍♀️

Mc2b · 13/10/2020 13:47

A fair few times it's kicked in when inside temp has dropped below 17c and I've manually bumped it up a few times over the last couple of months too.

gingercat02 · 13/10/2020 13:47

Yes ages ago

MegaClutterSlut · 13/10/2020 13:48

I'm in Crawley, I've had it on for an hour here and there but don't put it on unless I'm really cold

Springersrock · 13/10/2020 13:54

Yes.

It’s been on a couple of weeks. It’s on a timer so we set the thermostat and let it get on with it

I’m always cold, even in multiple jumpers and blankets and I refuse to freeze my arse of in my own house.

Springersrock · 13/10/2020 13:55

Oh, and I’m down on the south coast
