When do you stop drying laundry outside?

I've still put mine out on dry days. Even though it can take near all day to dry but saves using tumble or having it over radiators. My ndn said she stops by mid Sept as not nice enough out.
Today has only been 11 degrees and cloudy but I've dried towels and our bedding. Dh uniform and 1 other load.
I've just seen weather is nice midweek 13. So plan to do kids beds then rather than tomorrow and tumbling? I'm now thinking my neighbours think I'm odd 😂

It doesn't matter what time of year. If it's breezy I put washing out. I don't have a tumble drier.

Flipflopsaga · 11/10/2020 21:11

I have found that if the ground is wet (paving stones in your garden for example), your washing won’t dry.

Popcornismandatory · 11/10/2020 21:13

I don't have a tumble dryer. If the ground is dry then the washing will dry regardless.

userxx · 11/10/2020 21:15

If it's dry then it's out. Seeing a full washing line makes me happy for some reason.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/10/2020 21:16

The lady (around 80) across the road from me puts hers out all year round. I'm not sure where she gets it all as she lives alone but seems to have sheets and towels galore.

Heatherjayne1972 · 11/10/2020 21:16

Outside all year round here. I live on a quite windy hillside If it’s dry the washings out

AlwaysLatte · 11/10/2020 21:16

We stored our rotary airier away only today. It takes so long to dry at this time of year. We'll get it back out in spring.

H1978 · 11/10/2020 21:21

I’ll dry outside even if it’s for a few hours outside so it’s takes the wetness away and then hang on the airer. I find the tumble dryer takes away the smell of my fabric conditioner, so it’s only if needs must.

tempnamechange98765 · 11/10/2020 21:23

I don't actually know for sure, weather dependent I think. I am still putting it out on dry days now! It's not necessarily 100% dry as I find it has to come in 3-4pm before it gets too cold, but at least then it's only a short spell on the clothes airer.

Justgivemewine · 11/10/2020 21:24

All year round here as long as it’s dry, even when it’s cold a bit of sun and wind can dry it surprisingly quickly.
Don’t have a drier and don’t plan on getting one
Although we are in the SE so that probably helps!

Fink · 11/10/2020 21:25

Whenever it's not raining/snowing/hail or whatever. Any time of year as long as the forecast is reasonable.

I've had mine out today. It's getting darked on as we speak (unless someone else has taken it in already, I haven't checked).

StarlightLady · 11/10/2020 21:25

I don’t have a tumble dryer. I stop putting mine out, when it’s just as wet when l bring it in.

Onedropbeat · 11/10/2020 21:26

My washing was out all day today but didn’t dry 😭

MirandaMarple · 11/10/2020 21:26

Together with sunshine factor I now check wind speed on the forecast. It's all about the sun v wind factor. Usually makes for a good drying day even if it's below 10°c.

Joolsin · 11/10/2020 21:28

I always aim to dry it all outside from mid-April until the end of September - if I get a few weeks either side of that I'm delighted! Small pleasures!!

Doilooklikeatourist · 11/10/2020 21:29

I've been out in coat and gloves hanging washing on the line
Freeze dried 👍

Jemenfouscompletement · 11/10/2020 21:29

If the ground is dry then the washing will dry regardless.

Never thought about this before but it is so logical! I dry outside whenever possible regardless of month. It smells so good. Likewise no tumble dryer hate them with a passion.

Crockof · 11/10/2020 21:32

If the ground is drying so will the washing.

AriettyHomily · 11/10/2020 21:32

When it's too cold or wet to dry, don't care what time of year it is.

One of my biggest bugbears is hanging it out and then having to take it in wet and do what I should have done in the first place.

Same as hearing, if it is cold mid July then it goes on.

MrsBlue4 · 11/10/2020 22:07

I have an unhealthy obsession with the weather forecast to see if I can get it out. Being in Scotland it's often "washing roulette" seeing as there are usually 4 seasons in one day here. Nothing more satisfying than putting a washing out.

Phrowzunn · 11/10/2020 22:10

Out of interest why is everyone so against tumble dryers? Is it an environmental thing? We recently got a washer dryer and it has absolutely changed my life - I love it!! Put the dirty washing in and 3 hours later it is clean and dry. No clothes horses everywhere, no running outside if it starts to rain etc. And if you take it out while it’s still hot and shake it out and fold it there’s no need to iron either. I’ve never had a drier before but I’m a total convert! Blush

dementedpixie · 11/10/2020 22:12

I would begrudge paying for tumble drying. I don't own one and the washer dryer i had was a bit rubbish. I just have a washing machine and a couple of clothes airers

ShatnersBaboon · 11/10/2020 22:13

No real rules here. If it's bright and breezy enough, I'll put washing out. I've put washing out on Christmas Day before.

speakout · 11/10/2020 22:15

Tumble driers.

  1. Cost of power.
2.Fucks the planet.
  1. Damages the clothes.
  2. Tumble dried clothes smell bad,
CaledoniaCatalan · 11/10/2020 22:17

All year round and I'm in Scotland.
I have to take it in mid afternoon as in December it's dark here before 4 but if it's dry my washing is always out
