When do you stop drying laundry outside?

I've still put mine out on dry days. Even though it can take near all day to dry but saves using tumble or having it over radiators. My ndn said she stops by mid Sept as not nice enough out.
Today has only been 11 degrees and cloudy but I've dried towels and our bedding. Dh uniform and 1 other load.
I've just seen weather is nice midweek 13. So plan to do kids beds then rather than tomorrow and tumbling? I'm now thinking my neighbours think I'm odd 😂

I don't! I'll dry all year round if it's suitable!

I have to pick the few dry days as I'm in Scotland. Had stuff hanging out today. Wasn't dry but most moisture was out of it

Optimist1 · 11/10/2020 20:30

Me too! It takes more planning in winter months because it takes longer to dry, but it can be done. You're not at all odd, OP - your neighbour is the odd one!

I stop drying outside 6 weeks before Christmas then start again 6 weeks after. I've done this for years. My mum was a home help and one of her old ladies told her this years ago.

Gazelda · 11/10/2020 20:30

My garden catches very little breeze, so I generally find that most washing doesn't dry after the end of Sept,

Having said that, I put my bedsheets out for a few hours last just to give them a blast of fresh air.

I'll keep putting things like cotton blouses out for a few more weeks, if it's a dry and sunny day.

If it’s looking to be a good drying day I’ll carry on. I hate smelly washing that’s taken days to try indoors. And try to limit tumble dryer use.
Hasn’t stopped raining here recently though, so not managed to get much dry outside.

Yubaba · 11/10/2020 20:30

I don’t really dry much outside. I’m lazy and can’t be bothered to lug it outside and then back in again and I have to iron it all.
I’d say May to mid September I’ll do towels and bedding outside but nearly everything Else gets chucked in the dryer Blush
I just want it washed, dried and put away as quick as possible.

SchoolNightWine · 11/10/2020 20:31

I stop when it's not fully dry when I bring it in - can't be on with pegging it out and then putting on rack to finish off!

EwwSprouts · 11/10/2020 20:32

Had clothes out today and they dried fine.

cautiouscovidity · 11/10/2020 20:32

All year round as long as it's dry enough to do so. In reality, that's only the weekends in the winter, as I'm not home before dark to bring it in and it would just get damp again.
If the path dries, the washing will dry.

SheilaHammond · 11/10/2020 20:33

All year round outside. Though might need to finish it off on radiator or dryer. Outdoors makes it smell nice.

AliMonkey · 11/10/2020 20:33

I dry all year if right weather - so pretty much if over about 10 degrees or a bit of a wind I'll give it a go. Got two lots dry yesterday and another two today (in SE). WFH at moment helps as means I can put it out any day of the week, not just the days I'm not working. But certainly March to October it pretty much all dries outside, occasionally needing a bit of finishing off inside or in the airing cupboard. November to Feb I probably still get maybe 40% of it dried outside -usually try to dry bedding outside at least. But then I don't have a tumble drier (by choice - lucky enough to have a decent-sized utility room so space for it to be dried on two airers in winter so do that rather than filling the space with a tumble drier).

trilbydoll · 11/10/2020 20:33

I only dry washing outside when it's properly hot or sunny and windy and I'm at home to bring it in before it gets cold in the early evening. This usually means only in June, July and August maybe May if there are some nice days. It's just so much more hassle than hanging it up inside, you can't leave it for days if you can't be bothered to put it away.

OllysArmy · 11/10/2020 20:34

When the sun doesn’t reach the garden any more, which is usually around when the clocks go back

Orangedaisy · 11/10/2020 20:34

Mine dried today, last year got the sheets dry on Xmas eve! So it’s all about the weather not the diary date. I did set the machine to finish at 8am today so they got a good 7hrs in sun and mild wind.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 11/10/2020 20:34

I put it outside to dry as long as it's not damp or raining (fat chance here in the SE for about the last two weeks).

But, other than that, even in winter it gets mainly dry and then only needs a 10 minute finish off in the tumble drier or on the airer.

mum2jakie · 11/10/2020 20:35

I put mine out whenever it's dry - sometimes it stays out for a while if it showers in between! I don't have a tumble dryer and struggle to get everything dry indoors.

Managed to get king sized bedding washed and dried outside while it's been dry today. Needless to say, I don't change our bedding weekly at this time of year!

WhenSheWasBad · 11/10/2020 20:36

All year round, entirely dependent on the weather. We do live in a breezy area and our garden is quite sunny.

Managed to dry about 3 loads of washing today.

gamerchick · 11/10/2020 20:36

If the path is dry, it's dry enough to go out imo.

TattyMcBab · 11/10/2020 20:36

Now I have a decent whirligig, open garden and slight bit of breeze - a lot more often. It really depends on the individual conditions you have - my clothes dried in less than three hours flapping around in a cold breezey my garden in the north east at Christmas time but rarely dried in my overlooked by trees and too high fences and walls for a breeze back garden further south.

Orangedaisy · 11/10/2020 20:36

Also I often put it on the airer rather than the washing line if it’s iffy as to whether it will dry or not. Then it’s easier just to pull the airer in and out in airing cupboard (big enough for the airer) to finish off.

LizzieSiddal · 11/10/2020 20:36

I put it outside all year round, unless it’s wet or very cold. If it isn’t fully dry I put it in the tumble dryer. I never put towels outside, as I like them tumble dryer fluffy. Grin

MikeUniformMike · 11/10/2020 20:37

You'll be very lucky if it dries outside in November, December or January.

LizzieSiddal · 11/10/2020 20:38

And I should add, a bit embarrassingly, that I like hanging out washing on the line. I’m not sure why, I just enjoy doing it.
