When do you stop drying laundry outside?

I've still put mine out on dry days. Even though it can take near all day to dry but saves using tumble or having it over radiators. My ndn said she stops by mid Sept as not nice enough out.
Today has only been 11 degrees and cloudy but I've dried towels and our bedding. Dh uniform and 1 other load.
I've just seen weather is nice midweek 13. So plan to do kids beds then rather than tomorrow and tumbling? I'm now thinking my neighbours think I'm odd 😂

I peg out all year if I can. No tumble dryer and I hate racks of wet washing everywhere. Plus it smells nicer if dried outside.

Got a load of sheets dry today no worries. If it's dry and breezy then it will get at least partly dry.

I do hear the PP who says they don't get home till dark - but that's what your teenage kids are for! Also I am wfh a lot atm so that makes it easier if it starts to rain.

Never!
Even with snow or ice on the ground if we have a bright sunny day or a breeze always worth it.
I am in Scotland- an icy dry day in January with a brisk wind can get clothes dry to 60%. It softens them, kills viruses and bugs, the sun takes out stains, and the fresh wind gives them a fresh smell.
I don;t mind then hanging them inside- drying time is shortened dramatically and I love the fragrance of wind blown laundry drying inside the house. Fragrant and fresh.

LadyFannyButton · 11/10/2020 20:42

I had 3 loads out today.
I will put it out until the air is too cold and damp to dry anything.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 11/10/2020 20:43

I managed a towel and a pair of heavy chinos today among other stuff, took about 7 hours. Northumberland, overcast, 10°, light northerly.

Snowmonster · 11/10/2020 20:44

I'm in a flat agricultural area so its windy most of the time and fab for drying outside all year round.

It smells lovely drying outside.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/10/2020 20:44

If it's not going to rain and the path is dry (or drying) then out it goes. I use the state of the path to tell me if it is too humid for my washing to dry.

ForeverBubblegum · 11/10/2020 20:45

I hang stuff out all year and don't own a tumble dryer (space wise it was a choice between dryer or dishwasher, and I hate washing up). Sometimes it doesn't get completely dry, but it means I can re-hang it inside without causing condensation or damp.

Alicatz66 · 11/10/2020 20:46

It sounds very sad .. but one of the things I love about WFH is being able to hang the washing out .. when I'm in the office it's too early and dark to hand it out .. and then it gets damp again by the time I'm home in winter

Alicatz66 · 11/10/2020 20:49

@LizzieSiddal .. me too !!! I bloody love hanging washing out !!! You are not alone

LouScot · 11/10/2020 20:50

I'm just like @speakout! I'm in Scotland and dry outdoors all year round, we have days with a good wind even when it's chilly. Only day I definitely wouldn't dry outside would be New Year's Day Grin

VenusClapTrap · 11/10/2020 20:51

I usually give up November to February, unless there is an especially sunny and breezy day, and then I might do some bedding.

Whatisthisfuckery · 11/10/2020 20:53

I’ll peg it out if it’s a decent day, even if I have to bring it in and finish it in the tumble or on the horse. When it’s raining a lot I’ll bung a load in on an eco wash dry cycle over night so it’s done in the morning.

Kittykatmacbill · 11/10/2020 20:53

If your (paving) slabs dry your laundry will dry. It makes the house feel better if there isn’t tonnes of washing drying inside and, tbh, a full whirly gig is just such a joy.

(There are some great insta accounts full of drying washing if you that’s your thing, ahem...)

Oldraver · 11/10/2020 20:53

Most things will be tumble dried now but bedding will be out out even if it won't dry to smell nice

Lovelydovey · 11/10/2020 20:54

All year round if I can, and likely will do this year as will be WFH so can bring in before dark / if it rains.

CathyorClaire · 11/10/2020 20:54

It goes out year round unless it's pissing with rain.

Even if it only gets a few hours it smells better and dries overnight inside.

raspberryk · 11/10/2020 20:55

I hang washing out all year too as long as it is dry, I don't have a tumble drier so the dryer it can get outside the better, I just air it on my heated airer afterwards. I dried 3 loads of bedding today outside.

maddiemookins16mum · 11/10/2020 20:59

I use the pavement test. If the pavement is dry, my washing will dry. Even in mid winter.
It has to be in by 2pm though on the darkest days of winter.

Angel2702 · 11/10/2020 21:01

Usually around end of October as it tends to just stay damp and not dry. Once our heating goes on it dries faster on the airer indoors.

Voice0fReason · 11/10/2020 21:01

I only hang outside if I can guarantee it will all be completely dry in a couple of hours. My line is over the grass so that has to be dry for me to want to walk over it. And I've got a very good space indoors for drying.

InTheLongGrass · 11/10/2020 21:04

Unless it's raining, we always try to get the washing on the line for a bit. Even an hour outside makes finishing it off much quicker.
But we're another tumbler free house. I wonder if that makes a difference?

BigPlanes · 11/10/2020 21:05

Scotland - I put mine out all year round. Much better than drying indoors. I do have a tumblr dryer though so in colder weather I take it down when it gets dark and can finish it off easily. I tend to avoid using the tumble dryer if possible though.

DuckonaBike · 11/10/2020 21:07

I give it a couple of hours outside to get the worst of the damp off and then finish it inside on my lovely heated airer. It just seems more wholesome and hygienic than drying it completely inside. And I think I quite enjoy hanging it out too...

Will remember the thing about 6 weeks before and after Christmas though, that’s interesting.

DelphineWalsh · 11/10/2020 21:08

If the patio is dry then the washing goes outside.

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2020 21:10

It's worth putting it out all year round however long it takes to dry, just to get that fabulous smell of line dried washing.
