What is the strangest thing you’ve seen someone get annoyed about on here?

I was reminded yesterday of a poster who was furious about people including the county in postal addresses.
I’ve also had a thread where posters are angry with me for not having a bin in my bathroom.
Then there was the poster who said that women who put their bras on in a certain fashion will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Something are worth getting cross about but what is the most inconsequential thing you’ve seen posters getting angry about?

The threads where all the posters pile on to slag off those who dare to have grey walls in their homes, it's so weird.

BearSoFair · 11/10/2020 12:59

Helium balloons. I'm sure the stuff going in balloons isn't medical grade!

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 11/10/2020 13:16

Yes to the smug coffee carrying one. Didn’t that also have a sunglasses element to it, or was that another one? Wearing sunglasses while carrying a takeaway coffee deemed to be the smugest most attention-seeking action anyone could take.
Also, the donating honey to the food bank one. Apparently donating honey to a food bank is an act of extreme patronising middle-class oneupmanship and if you don’t understand why you should be shot at dawn. What made it worse was that the person who was most angered was the food bank volunteer. Ended up with her pretty much suggesting that the food bank would rather receive nothing than a donation that included honey 😏. That was very weird.

This is where I’m torn because obviously the patient can’t change his behaviour but she deserves not to be treated inappropriately in her place of work (I didn’t read the thread you are referring to so I don’t know what the behaviour was). Removing care is obviously not the way though.

The coffee-shaming is thinly disguised SAHM jealousy. All those "just make a coffee when you get home from the school run ffs!" Because not everyone is at home all day? Some of us actually have jobs? Sorry that seeing busy women on the way to their jobs makes you feel insecure about your own life choices, but we're not being busy AT you.

A close cousin to coffee-outrage is water-outrage.

Some posters get very irate at the idea of people "guzzling" water. (It's always "guzzling." Apparently the non-guzzlers simply absorb H2O through their skin.)

Like yeah okay the culture of carrying around water bottles does contribute to plastic pollution, but the ire is aimed even at people with refillable bottles. It's a whole "in my day we just dehydrated and lived with it!"

PhilSwagielka · 11/10/2020 14:17

I had some Scottish person have a go at me for not being sufficiently patriotic and thinking G-d Save the Queen was a dirge. Apparently I was being 'woke'. Spoiler: it's got fuck all to do with wokeness, I just think it's a dirge and that Jerusalem is better.

OrigamiOwl · 11/10/2020 14:53

A poster getting very irate that people might want a snack or a drink while at the cinema. Apparently needing even a sip of drink in those 2+ hours is a sign of greed and gluttony.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 11/10/2020 14:55

It is a dreadful dirge. You can really get behind 'The Star Spangled Banner' or 'Le Marseillaise'.

MJMG2015 · 11/10/2020 15:10

@overshare

I remember someone being incensed of people booking online shopping slots in advance and changing their order as it approached, not just doing the while booking and ordering the day before. Selfish bastards!
Yeah that one was mad & the OP was thicker than an Oak tree's trunk! Still makes me shake my head!

I once made the mistake of posting something in my house. The anger with which people told me they didn’t like it was something else.

Helium is helium. It’s an element. There is only so much of it.

The one about dolphins being raping bastards.

I love MN at times. Makes me feel like a very chilled out person.

KetoPenguin · 11/10/2020 15:32

I remember one thread with people who hated everyday words like "meals". Can't remember all the words they hated now.

GrinGrinGrin I've read about 20 posts and it's already incredible.

These are the threads that should make it into MN Classics, as they are actually classic MN threads. Nowhere else does this shit get even mentioned let alone leave people irate and frothing

caughtalightsneeze · 11/10/2020 16:49

I think the best thing about that thread might be the username of the poster who started it. Quite the opposite of the tone of the thread!

CarlottaValdez · 11/10/2020 16:59

So much MN gold on that thread and I’m only on page two. I’m especially tickled by “tea and coffee are free at work and have been for years” as if it’s a mandatory employment benefit or something.

Magicbabywaves · 11/10/2020 17:00

I’ve shared that thread before. It never left me.

sueelleker · 11/10/2020 17:04

Rescuing suffering animals, disease free, passported and fully vaccinated from other countries where they face inhumane mass euthanasia (at best, if they’re lucky) in case an English born dog, cared for in a humane no-kill shelter misses out 🧐 I got this when I asked if anyone had experience with adopting a cat from abroad. I got told I should adopt in this country; ignoring the fact that we don't have a car, and our nearest rescues would take us hours to get to by public transport.

I enjoy the person who is especially annoyed at people drinking hot drinks through a small hole in the lid Grin
CarlottaValdez · 11/10/2020 17:13

Yes that’s also brilliant!

LzzyHale · 11/10/2020 17:26

Someone on Style & Beauty asking about handbags, I think they might have inherited some money. Another poster suggested buying a bench instead.

This is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE MN-ism. It’s just so fucking brilliantly bonkers.

That poster was told that she was selfish to spend that much on herself and should buy something the whole family could enjoy. It was brilliant. Grin

notafanoftheman · 11/10/2020 17:30

Someone got ridiculously cross about translators being paid royalties. It was such a niche topic but it ran to, like, 250 posts.

Do you reckon this poster does the substitute products for Asda deliveries?
