If we all survive this, when people talk about it in the future, I will say " it was so fucking boring "

All anyone talks about is covid . Alm that us on the news us covid. Can't go to the theatre because covid. Gigs? No covid.
Restaurants are dodgy. Pubs are dodgy. Seeing family and friends is forbidden. It is all so bloody dull.

Plus the smell. Hand sanitizer and disinfectant everywhere. Yuck.

Bored as bloody f#@k of it.. it's hell on earth, and it's bringing out the absolute worst in humanity!

TwentyViginti · 11/10/2020 08:57

Intelligent folk need a greater variety of stimulus.

Intelligent folk should be capable of finding stimulating things to occupy themselves.

Malteserdiet · 11/10/2020 08:59

I’m with you all in the boredom. Doesn’t mean I can’t be aware of and feel sad for anyone becoming seriously ill or dying from covid but I’m so sick of it being in my head every single day and multiple times a day and the tedious nature of all the restrictions and adaptations.

Wake up in the morning - do any of the kids have a mild temperature? Otherwise they won’t be let into school even though it’s much more likely they have any other minor bug other than Covid.

About to leave the house - do I have my mask because school mandate all adults wear a mask within 50m of the school.

Sending the kids into school - can only give them a hug because trying to kiss their cheek through a mask is ridiculous. Then need to hang around at the entrance in whatever weather while they queue to get in and have a blob of hand gel squeezed into their palm and walk through a temperature gate.

Nip to the supermarket - don’t forget your mask and forget about any polite chat at the checkout.

Go home for a bit - no job anymore because i worked for a company sending entertainers into care homes so that’s completely gone.

Ooh maybe I’ll meet a friend for lunch - oh wait, she is self isolating on the off chance she picked it up from sitting near somebody else and I didn’t remember to book the table.

Maybe I’ll call my siblings to make some plans for a Christmas meet up - nope can’t do that because nobody can plan ANYTHING!

I am well aware that the above sounds totally indulgent and of little overall consequence in the grand scheme of life but can you tell I’m bored of it all! Confused

Yes there’s not going to be some epic pandemic film is there?
“What did you do?”
“Well we mostly tried to stay at home...

God, at long last I've found people who think like me.
I'm 74 years old. All through this shit storm I've never been afraid / terrified/ anxious.
If people my age are feeling all of the above: lock yourself away and don't come out and let the younger generation get on with their lives.

Helspopje · 11/10/2020 09:07

Come to work with me
I guarantee you won’t find it boring
Scary, anxious, horrific yes, but not boring

Nannewnannew · 11/10/2020 09:08

I agree OP, totally bored of the whole thing, plus, a couple of elderly people I knew have died recently and of course everyone naturally assumes it was COVID!!!! No, actually people do die of other things! But to make matters even worse is the relief on their faces when they find out it wasn’t COVID! Honestly, I could scream sometimes! 😼

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 11/10/2020 09:11

I’d love to, Ive lost my job so desperately seeking another.
SoUtterlyGroundDown · 11/10/2020 09:12

Lost my job due to Covid I should say. Apparently I work in a ‘non viable’ industry.

MrsMcMuffins · 11/10/2020 09:16

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross, but we are all bored of Covid. We have to grow some resilience though and also pass that on to our children. Shopping with a mask on and using hand gel for a short period of time in our lives is really not a big deal unless you make it into one. Aren’t the Brits supposed to have this Blitz spirit you always speak of? 😂

Malteserdiet · 11/10/2020 09:16

@Helspopje yes all well and good for you to point that out and I’ve no doubt that working on a covid hospital ward is no fun. However, I would find it just as distressing to work on a children’s cancer ward or on a geriatric end of life care ward and still probably find myself able to be frustrated by their situation or to get fed up by life’s little annoyances at the same time. People are entitled to feel how they feel without anyone suggesting or implying that they are uncaring, flippant arses.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 11/10/2020 09:19

Bored and also angry.

You think covid is bad? Try living in 50 years with global warming. So bloody short term.

My anger increases at the fact theNHS has ground to a halt and if you are rich enough you can have private operations, dental appointments and even see a private GP. Wrong wrong wrong

Dissenters are silenced. It’s enough to make me wonder if the queen might just be a lizard after all

Dominicgoings · 11/10/2020 09:20

@aibuQuestion

And moaned and whinged endlessly about how bored we were and how confusing the rulz are and how it’s just NOT FAIR and generally acted like a nation of whinging babies.

Oscar winning potential for sure 😉

Those who endured the great wars are probably literally spinning in their graves at the whinging generations of Brits who have followed them.

Ghostlyglow · 11/10/2020 09:24

Oh God! Hmm 'the blitz spirit' 'the war'....

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 11/10/2020 09:24

I’ve never claimed to have ‘Blitz spirit’. Why would it? I wasn’t alive during the Blitz.
I love the idea that people are only moaning because they have to wear masks and sanitise their hands. I wish. I’m moaning because I’ve lost my job, lost my volunteering role/hobby, had to pull my toddler out of nursery and there is nowhere to take him (no groups or anything have reopened in my area), had to sell my car... masks are shit too though.

Malteserdiet · 11/10/2020 09:27

All these pushes and campaigns for people to open up and talk and dissolve the negativity once surrounding mental health problems and depression appear to be a waste of time. Apparently, since we are mostly British and there have been wars, we must all adopt our stiff upper lip and keep quiet about any negative feelings, worries, frustrations or anger no matter what is going on and no matter the impact to our personal lives Confused

ChasingRainbows19 · 11/10/2020 09:27

I’m with you OP. I know it all has to happen. It’s a global pandemic which has spread throughout the world and can be quite horrific. I work in the NHS I know the importance and am careful and do my best to protect myself and others

However I am sick of it all. Sick of my work environment changing so much, sick of having to wear a mask/visor or safety glasses all shift and aprons/gloves too. My work is so different but I try to so hard to do right by my patients.

I’m In the north west where we went back into a local lockdown end of July/Aug. We’ve been in restrictions forever and cases still rise. I can’t see friends or family properly ( inside) it’s becoming too cold to see people outside for too long. Everywhere feels weird wherever you go. I can’t travel or go to gigs/shows. I’m trying so hard to be positive and do things I can do but it’s been months now....

Thanks to the horrific mismanagement by this government the worst thing is there is no end in sight, cases rising. People give up following rules as the guidance is confusing or sometimes makes no sense. Cases rising in hospitals, yes treatment is better we know more about it. People are still dying. Hospitals have huge backlogs of patients to see from the first lockdown. Patients haven’t received treatment in some areas and are dying which is horrid too.

I suffer from SAD as the seasons change and it feels magnified by Covid.

Autumngoldleaf · 11/10/2020 09:28

Yes, I'm finding it along with everyone else tough although, it's also a wonderful shield for us agaisnt horrid pils... We are covid shielding from them!

ImSleepingBeauty · 11/10/2020 09:29

You could have at least posted this on the coronavirus board.

fmlfmlfmlfm · 11/10/2020 09:33

I'm sooooooo with you. My mental health is shot.

At least you can drink. I'm pregnant during a pandemic (can only blame myself)

All the things I used to love are now ruined by the pandemic or my pregnancy

Theme parks - pregnancy
Quiz night - covid
Cinema - covid
Bingo - local flood
Indoor drinking - pregnancy
Seeing friends - covid

And then if I do manage to go somewhere I'm then questioned.... shouldn't you be shielding if you're pregnant? Is it safe for you to be here?

I work in a primary school across 3 bubbles and I manage wrap around care. It's actually safer for me to be here. You're not trying to kiss and hug me!

I've had a holiday booked since January.... just to the coast in a caravan just waiting for the news that we can't go and I'm going to go over the edge.

MrsMcMuffins · 11/10/2020 09:33

@SoUtterlyGroundDown, moaning that you have lost your job is not the same as moaning that you are bored is it?

As a foreigner I don’t see this type of moaning in my home country. People just get on with it. I am sure they are also bored. The Brits are always quoting their Blitz spirit and go on about how they survived the war though. I remember the Brexit threads well.

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 11/10/2020 09:35

I am bored. Bored that I can’t go to work. Bored that I have nowhere to take my toddler. Bored that all my activities are cancelled. Bored because all the activities I used to do I can’t anymore.
I am moaning that I’ve lost my job and that I’m bored. It’s all linked.

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 11/10/2020 09:36

I’m also ‘part foreigner’. People in my home country are moaning too.

MadameBlobby · 11/10/2020 09:37

I also just don’t trust the government and their advisors any more. Van Tam this morning going on about how it’s as bad as March. What, with a fraction of the number of cases, measures in place and the R just over 1 as opposed to over 3 in March? They keep making these claims that make no sense and I just switch off. Same as the ones about hospital beds being overwhelmed in 10 days. What do they expect us to do about this? Those people will likely already be infected. Most people are following the rules. What else do they expect us to do? And if there is something then implement more rules instead of just talking about it and moaning at us 🤷🏼‍♀️
