what do you think about when you're trying to sleep?

I only spoke to dh about this recently as feels so personal. Is there something you always get drawn back to?

Dh is him playing his favourite sport in really slow motion, mine is reimagining scenes from my favorite film, TV show or book. So detailed sometimes but really relaxes me!

What I'd do if I won the lottery.

I think about what I would do if I won the lottery, or sometimes bumping into people I know when I have lost all my baby weight and am in amazing shape (what I would wear, say etc)...

Am I a weirdo? 🙈😂

AfterSchoolWorry · 10/10/2020 18:16

I don't have any thinking time between awake and asleep. One second I'm awake and the next second the phone falls out of my hand and I'm asleep!

Coriandersucks · 10/10/2020 18:17

I pretend I’ve been convicted for a crime I didn’t commit - usually a murder - and go through getting arrested and my interview at the police station. I’ve never yet made it to the point where I’m charged with anything so I like to assume I get off in the end.

sillybean · 10/10/2020 18:17

Decorating my fantasy ideal home.

pastandpresent · 10/10/2020 18:22

I always try to remember the story of the book/film/games etc, when I can't fall asleep. So similar to op. Normally works.

Zakidoodles23 · 10/10/2020 18:31

I went through a phase of thinking about a zombie apocalypse and how my family would escape to a safe zone. Everyone always made it! I also retell stories and have people I know as characters. I only really do this if my mind won't switch off or if I'm anxious about something so need to stop myself thinking about it

toffeekiwi · 10/10/2020 18:35

People who have died. No wonder I can't sleep.

IdblowJonSnow · 10/10/2020 18:38

All sorts of randomness. Then I have crazy dreams. Always takes me ages to go to sleep at night whereas in the day i could nap easily.

RemyHadley · 10/10/2020 18:39

I like to list all the characters in books/shows I know well, it seems to help my mind wind down for sleep.

RossiRoo · 10/10/2020 18:40

I try not to think about anything, it keeps me awake!

I count backwards from 100, as many times as it takes until I'm asleep.

tigger001 · 10/10/2020 18:40

My amazing mum who died 2 years ago - relive our fun times together and sometimes on a bad night, replay the day she died, over and over.

Also if something has happened I replay conversations over what I should have said, what I should have done...it's really annoying.

StayonCourse · 10/10/2020 18:40

I interior design my imaginary dream house, or houses as I have a few Grin

AgnesNaismith · 10/10/2020 18:44

I used to think about dying too - but that wasn’t very productive.

I read last year that if you think about things you are grateful for it somehow relieves the anxiety and reframes your brain. So I do this when I remember. If I really need to get away from my thoughts I have a sleep mask with flat Bluetooth earphones on the side and I put on a lighthearted podcast.

ohmygoshNT · 10/10/2020 18:46

My husbands boss

Mollscroll · 10/10/2020 18:50

I literally have 20 seconds between turning the light out and falling asleep. Probably 10 seconds. I’m very lucky. Cannot nap though so my sleep powers do have some limitations.

MsChatterbox · 10/10/2020 18:52

I think "I'm sooo comfy. Mmm the duvet feels so nice on my feet. Mmm I love being in bed" either that or I fall asleep watching something Grin. I'm very sleep deprived atm with toddler and baby so as soon as I decide to sleep it only takes a minute!

SilverOtter · 10/10/2020 18:58

I walk through houses room by room, imagining how I'd renovate and redecorate. Sometimes our house, sometimes my mums (her house has so much potential but she's a hoarder of crap😂), basically any house I'm familiar with😄

UsernameN0Tavailable · 10/10/2020 19:05

I write books in my head, usually terrible cheesy romance novels bit more recently the basic plot outline of something a bit deeper. I've done this for at least 15 years and I've yet to put pen to paper but I would love to write an actual book one day.

doadeer · 10/10/2020 19:11

I plot cheesy Mills and Boon type romances. Stories which I add bits to each night. I go through different historic periods 🤣

BaldAndWild · 10/10/2020 19:12

I listen to sleep meditations or music.

Sometimes I pretend to walk around where I grew up.

Sometimes I think about family members who have died, hoping that I'll dream about them.

BoulangerieBabs · 10/10/2020 19:13

Same here, close my eyes and I'm gone.
BaldAndWild · 10/10/2020 19:18

When I was little, I used to imagine there was a hole in the skirting board and on the other side was a tiny little town where tiny mice lived.

GoodbyeToCare · 10/10/2020 19:22

I have an imaginary house in Whitby. I imagine driving up to it, how it feels to step in the door, the decor, the furniture, everything. I have yet to make it upstairs in my imaginary house Grin
