what do you think about when you're trying to sleep?

I only spoke to dh about this recently as feels so personal. Is there something you always get drawn back to?

Dh is him playing his favourite sport in really slow motion, mine is reimagining scenes from my favorite film, TV show or book. So detailed sometimes but really relaxes me!

Anything and everything that stops me from sleeping normally. Last night was trying to work out your best chance of winning noughts and crosses if you go first or second.

@Zakidoodles23

I went through a phase of thinking about a zombie apocalypse and how my family would escape to a safe zone. Everyone always made it! I also retell stories and have people I know as characters. I only really do this if my mind won't switch off or if I'm anxious about something so need to stop myself thinking about it
Similar with the story thing!

I get so deep into mine, like this morning I was quiet for ages as couldn't get my head out of it and replaying certain parts so it read/looked (on screen) better.

So strange!

Friends storylines.

I imagine I’m a mouse/badger/squirrel going to sleep in the hollow of a tree 😄

RickOShay · 10/10/2020 19:47

I list my favourite classical girls’ names alphabetically, Anna, Beatrice, Clara, I always get stuck on D and E Grin
Then I do my fantasy romantic names
Angelica, Bianca, Christobel......
And THEN I do local place names. I get to sleep very easily, but I wake up in the early hours.

Bluntness100 · 10/10/2020 19:51

Generally either interesting threads on here or news stories, like what’s happening with the us elections. Or even celeb gossip stuff,
Like what mad shit Meghan and Harry are currently pulling.

I struggle to fall asleep if I don’t have something to think about. And I don’t make up fantasy stuff in my head, as feel that’s a bit silly, so generally think about mad shit going on with others.

Queenfreak · 10/10/2020 19:52

I've had an ongoing syfy fantasy since as long as I can remember. Its very teenage and I am naturally loved and adored by all. Grin

My wedding Smile

SomewhereEast · 10/10/2020 19:57

@doadeer

I plot cheesy Mills and Boon type romances. Stories which I add bits to each night. I go through different historic periods 🤣
I do that too! Although it tends to be fanfic type stories based on whatever I'm watching or reading at the time. I reckon I average a chapter a night Grin.

DH just drops straight off. Its like flipping a switch

RedDiamond · 10/10/2020 20:02

Do you know what?! I turn out to be the best skipper on the flotilla. I can park that little boat with my eyes closed. The Medicane does not phase me, I sail my way through it and moor up. Then I help and instruct others with their mooring. And the 4 men on the yacht next to me are just so, so grateful and one of them is totally gorgeous.

I like my dreams... Smile

beela · 10/10/2020 20:04

I make up running routes. Like walking a map in my head.

Or think about recipes I want to try out.

Peasweet · 10/10/2020 20:25

@RickOShay me too... alphabetically, names with two/ three syllables, names ending with 'a', 'e/i', foods, capitals cities, countries, car makes, bands/singers etc... Blush awake, a lot.. Grin

ReeseWitherfork · 10/10/2020 20:27

Great thread OP!
DH won’t tell me what he thinks about.

Mine is also decorating. Probably only takes me about two minutes!

nibdedibble · 10/10/2020 20:30

There’s another thread going atm about people’s inner stories. I don’t think anyone’s alone - LOADS of people, I discovered today, tell themselves stories Grin I feel NORMAL

HalfBrick · 10/10/2020 20:33

Like a pp, if I think about stuff it keeps me up so I listen to an audiobook or non music radio until my concentration goes and I fall asleep.

GrandAltogether · 10/10/2020 20:36

@Mollscroll

I literally have 20 seconds between turning the light out and falling asleep. Probably 10 seconds. I’m very lucky. Cannot nap though so my sleep powers do have some limitations.
I envy this SO MUCH.
GrandAltogether · 10/10/2020 20:40

But on the other hand, I got a career out of publishing some of my less odd stories, so swings and roundabouts.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 10/10/2020 20:41

I think about swimming in the sea. I love outdoor swimming, so I think about it, how calm I feel, how weightless and the fluid motion. And then I drift off....

Mollscroll · 10/10/2020 20:42

I am a bit of a phenomenon Grin

If it’s any consolation I’m regularly awake at 5 Angry

lazylinguist · 10/10/2020 20:43

I either think about plot lines for a book I've started writing (but not got very far with yet) or I talk to myself in Spanish in my head to practise (I'm learning Spanish).

insancerre · 10/10/2020 20:44

Nothing
I turn the light out and I’m asleep
You weirdos who are all thinking are wasting sleeping time

whalesandsharks · 10/10/2020 20:49

I just think I'm going to sleep and then I must just fall asleep because next thing I know I'm awake and it's morning 🤣🤣

sweetheartyparty · 10/10/2020 20:49

I'm not great at visualisation so I count and don't stop until I'm asleep. If I can't sleep its usually because I'm worried about something so counting keeps my mind off my problems

Pyewhacket · 10/10/2020 20:51
