Any ideas what this could be?

I'm 29, have been on the desogestrel pill for over a year now (no periods at all) and am sexually active with my partner.

Last night, I was really really sick. I vomited everywhere and started to feel quite hot and cold. Woke up at about 5am drenched in sweat. Went back to sleep and woke up again at 9 and I was completely covered in blood.
Thinking it was just a period, I put a tampon in and forgot about it.

I soaked through the tampon (heaviest flow) in 20 minutes.

Went to the toilet to change it and passed two massive (size of a golf ball) clots, then suddenly got extreme pains in my stomach - radiating up my back to my shoulder. I'm honestly in the worst pain ever.

My heart is going really fast, I feel freezing but my body feels hot, I can't stop shaking.
I'm frightened, I don't know what's going on with me.

Tried to go the walk in centre, but you need an appointment and they've got none today.

My dad is here at the minute and he doesn't do fuss (especially when it comes to illness). My partner told my dad to take me to the hospital (as he's working) but my dad isn't having it and I don't feel well enough to drive myself.

Has anyone got any ideas about what this could be and whether I need the hospital or not? I don't know what to do.
Thank you

(I apologise if this doesn't make sense, I'm in a lot of pain.)

Not saying you will need any surgery, but I just wanted to let you know I had a massive cyst and ovary removed and went on to have 3 children. The other ovary totally takes over with little to no effect on fertility. Wanted to share with you just in case.

SpookyNoise · 11/10/2020 19:59

I hope all goes well. 💐

Kiki275 · 11/10/2020 20:41

@CheeryAlmond I hope they manage to preserve it, that must be such a worry. I'm pleased that you're getting good care and the pain is under control. Have you heard from your dad?x

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 11/10/2020 20:58

I had a small cyst they thought had ruptured but was possibly a mad sized functional cyst. Which ever way it was an awful amount of pain. Fingers crossed your ultrasound will show you not needing an operation. Though a few friends have had a similar experience to pps in that they've gone on to have dc with an ovary removed with little issue. Thanks

uncomfortablydumb53 · 11/10/2020 21:07

I hope your pain is under control and you're comfortable
The US will show the root causes,so any surgery will be carefully planned
Please don't fear for your fertility.I know they will do their very best to Preserve it
Thinking of you Thanks

I hope your dad and your DH know that you could have bled to death if you hadn’t gone to hospital. This is another example of “women’s things” being minimised to the extremis

notsodimwit · 12/10/2020 06:24

Hope you feel a bit better today op Flowers

whereisthejoy · 12/10/2020 10:01

Another story here, I had a massive ovarian cyst as well - pre children. 5 years after it's removal (burst in the op, ovary has been compromised) I fell pregnant very easily (too easily according to DH, who was looking forward to trying Grin)

S111n20 · 12/10/2020 12:12

Any updates op ? 💐

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 12/10/2020 12:31

Why the heck didn't they scan you ASAP!! Hope you're OK Flowers

whatsbinhappnin · 12/10/2020 15:37

Also a little shocked that you haven't been scanned until 2 days after this started (hopefully you have been now!)

Wishing you a speedy recovery

Jesus Hmm why wouldn’t you believe a dr saying that? I don’t understand?

Hope you’re okay op

Derelictwreck · 12/10/2020 21:57

Another story - I had dermoid cysts on both ovaries causing such huge pain I went to A&E. had surgery 6months later and got the same speech about fertility. Honestly they just have to cover their backs. Also had to sign a form saying I understood all side effects including death!

Sarahplane · 12/10/2020 22:31

How did it go today OP?

Okayokayok · 12/10/2020 22:37

Hope you're okay OP?

CheeryAlmond · 13/10/2020 11:29

Hey everyone, again thank you for your lovely messages.

I did have a burst cyst, the US showed quite a lot of fluid around the area but since there's no signs of infection they're not going in for surgery just yet.
It's a case of wait and see for now. They're being very proactive with checking my temp/HR/infection levels.

I don't know why I wasn't scanned straight away, tbh the doctors were insistent it was just a bad period and that I needed the coil inserted first of all.
It's only when I saw a consultant a bit later that he actually listened to me and started me on medicines to control all the symptoms.
I didn't realise how much 'women's problems' were downplayed and ignored.

I'm starting to feel a bit better but I'm on a lot of medication and it makes me very woozy, I'm spending most of my time asleep.

Unfortunately I'm not allowed any visitors and I don't feel well enough to go down and meet my partner just now.

Still plodding, but getting there.

Thank you again, it means a lot Thanks

Glad you got answers. Get well soon

G5000 · 13/10/2020 11:40

Wow! I'm not a doctor, but if someone shows up with heart rate of 145, faint from pain, shivering and dizzy and blood running down their legs, it is clearly not just a bad period! You should complain, this is horrible.

CheeryAlmond · 13/10/2020 11:44

I was left in a cubicle for a while first of all. They did an ecg and gave me some pain meds, after which my heart rate dropped. Dr took from that that my HR was so high because of pain and said no more about it. Until I saw the consultant.

When I questioned it being a period the male dr said 'some women suffer, some don't. Seems you may just be unlucky.' That was that. No sympathy off him, until I was referred to gynae and they started to take me seriously.

That’s absolutely appalling! And trying to push a coil before they even knew what was going on is terrible.
SirVixofVixHall · 13/10/2020 12:04

This makes me furious. “Just a period” ffs ! My friend with the ruptured cyst had been told her severe pain was “stress” . Then the cyst ruptured and she had to crawl on her hands and knees into the car to get to hospital.
I hate the way women are sometimes treated by medical staff. So sorry you were put through this Op.
