How are you making Halloween special this year?

I’m itching to get the decorations out of the cupboard but I know the usual parties and events won’t be happening

I don’t know how truck or treating will look or if it’s even allowed?! I’m thinking of leaving some shop wrapped sweets for the kids to take. Have a couple of friends in ds’s school bubble over and play games.

What’s everyone else doing?

We are going to do the pumpkin trail and try and do everything we’d usually do with just us.

Not sure if any of the usual local attractions will be able to hold their half term events so we haven’t booked anything.

I’m holding out on booking any thing too.

I don't know what to do this year, last year we went all out. Made costumes for the kids from scratch, decorated the entire front of the house, etc. This year I can't work up the enthusiasm - which is tough as its usually my favourite time of year. Doesn't feel much point decorating as I don't feel safe enough to invite trick or treaters, and as the kids won't have anywhere to wear their costumes it seems silly to spend time and money on them. Need to find some way off celebrating this year that doesn't just remind me of what we can't do.

No trick or treating in the north west. We are having a spooky film night. In the day we will bake and decorate. I've got plates/cups and a table cloth from Asda.

I'm also arranging a Halloween zoom meeting with their friends and everyone will be dressed up.

We are just celebrating at home. I’m planning a murder mystery locked loom special. Should be fun! Dd wants to make Halloween cupcakes and we have a big pumpkin ready for carving.

Im decorating as usual. Maybe put some spooky music on it will still be fun!!

Decorating as usual and this year we are doing a haunted trail at a local castle. Can’t wait!

We live quite rural. The plan is to decorate some of the woods near where we live so the few kids in the village can go for a spooky walk and then to have marshmallow around a fire in the garden with our dc and maybe a film after.

Murder mystery escape room at home, spooky dinner and after dark a torch lit treasure hunt in the back garden. I’m wrapping up a selection of treats to look like bats, pumpkins, ghosts etc and they will have to find all of them before moving on to the next type. I got a gadget in Poundland that shrieks when you step on it for under a doormat and I’m looking for some more motion sensor scares. I’ll hide those round the garden.

Nothing much. We have grown our own pumpkins for the first time though, so we’ll make those into lanterns and make a pumpkin pie with the innards. We won’t be doing anything else.

Sine neighbours have started decorating. We call it Guising (from disguising) in Scotland. Trick or treat is American.

we are doing a halloween picture trail around our village and i have just gone online to see our lcoal castle is doing some events also. So i will book for that. Thanks for the idea Chipsahoy!

A message was put out on facebook village site to get decorating and put up lights, even if we aren't going to pass out candy. So the little kids in the village can go on walks with the family and see it all.
Dh says we'll put up the decs and put out candy to help yourself.
He had made a Dalek that moved if you went close, massive hit a couple years ago. He has repurposed it all now so will have to think of else something fast.

I live in a wooded clearing about two miles from the nearest other house. A 'B' road runs between two villages and adjacent to my garden. I am planning to dress as the grim reaper, with a real wooden scythe on my arm, and scare the shit out of commuters as they pass by. My grown up children love it.

I love Halloween and usually throw a party which is obviously cancelled this year.
My kids are older now so no trick or treating and we live in a rural area, no door knocking.
So I've booked tickets for us to go to a small theme park where they are having fireworks and a dj. Going to go all out with decorating the house, making a cake, Halloween themed high tea and dressing up.

Another thing I do is pick up the pheasants' claws that are left behind after a fox has eaten its kill. I hold them between the tip of my fingers while gathering the end of my jumper around to hide them. Then, in the local village shop I greet neighbours with an extended pheasant claw and at the till I extend my claw out while pointing to something on the back shelf and scaring the shit out of the assistant who is on duty. It brightens up their day.

Going camping, we will be decorating the inside & outside of our tent.

Mine are older so don’t really bother other than helping hand out candy.

We won’t be decorating this year but will have a movie and pizza by ourselves. Will buy double sweets next year if it’s safe for the little ones to trick and treat then.

We're making decorations and then decorating the inside of the house, going to a pumpkin picking fun day at a farm and I've got a halloween biscuit making kit. We'll walk round our estate looking for decorations and pumpkins and also play some themed games (me, DH and DD). That will spread out over halloween weekend and the 2 before it

We're in the Greater Manchester area and I'm sad there will be no trick or treating as I love seeing the kids in their costumes

No trick or treating so I've ordered a bat piñata, we're dressing up watching a spooky film and having a monster-themed tea.

Our small town is organising a Halloween trail. People have been invited to put up displays in their gardens and windows. Kids will go out with a parent and search for them (mapped obviously) and parent will give their own children a treat for each one they find. So effectively an evening treasure hunt. No door knocking or contact with others.
Sounds a great idea to me. I don't have any young ones and am not generally a fan of Halloween but will put something in the window and register to go on the map.
Sounds a safe and fun idea to me.
