Here we go again you lovely lot, Thread 13.

Post some lyrics of a song 70s, 80s, 90s (boundaries may be slightly pushed either way). State the decade & we will try to guess Artist(s) and song.

@FlouncerInDenial

I'm not quite sure what's still outstanding. Possibly some rainbow ones? And that very odd one from needtoknow about keeping pants on?????

@FlouncerInDenial - here's some more lyrics from the very odd 80s song!

Dorothy was a waitress on the promenade
She worked the night shift
Dishwater blonde, tall and fine
She got a lot of tips
Well, earlier I'd been talkin' stuff
In a violent room
Fighting with lovers past
I needed someone with a quicker wit than mine
Dorothy was fast

NeedToKnow101 · 14/10/2020 17:19

Oops massive edit fail! I meant to take out the name... ah well at least someone will get it now

(Sorry about your mum @Honeyroar )

TwigTheWonderKid · 14/10/2020 18:00

Ah, that one's been niggling at me @NeedToKnow101! I was pretty certain it was Prince. It's The Ballad of Dorothy Parker.

@CoffeeBeansGalore

Predictive text? Almost 😊. Goodbye yellow brick road 👍
Ha - no it wasn’t predictive text @CoffeeBeansGalore - I was singing and did the next line instead of the title!
FlouncingBabooshka · 14/10/2020 18:57

I think these are still outstanding. The theme is cities. There are two here I’m very surprised @FlouncerInDenial hasn’t pounced on a couple of them...

90s
I don't know if I'm closer to Heaven but
It looks like Hell down there

80s
A miracle sensation
My guide and inspiration
Now my dream is slowly coming true

80s
rain is the tears of the never never navvies who cry
for the bridge that doesn't go
in the direction of Dublin

80s
She owns the ground she walks on and she walks all over you

Correct @TwigTheWonderKid - although I kind of gave it away Grin

screams The first one is top of the city by kate bush. Lovely song!
FlouncerInDenial · 14/10/2020 19:29

Is the second one Barcelona by Freddie mercury and an opera singer whose name is escaping me

FlouncerInDenial · 14/10/2020 19:29

Not sure about the other two

FlouncerInDenial · 14/10/2020 19:31

I don't think I know the prince one. Is that really bad? Which album is it from?

NeedToKnow101 · 14/10/2020 19:32

It's from Sign of the Times. I had completely forgotten about it too. Then it popped into my head.

FlouncingBabooshka · 14/10/2020 19:38

Hmm..that was a very weird sentence I wrote up there...

Well done Flouncer. The opera singer was Monseratt Caballe.

I thought you might know the last one. It’s a group I think you like though not one of their best known songs.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/10/2020 20:59

There's a place where a kid without a cent
He can grow up to be president (to be president)
A magic kingdom filled with Barbie dolls
If you've got the time we can make it a good time.

Funny you were saying that, FouncingB. I did feel like that last one was familiar to me, but I can't seem to place it. Often I hear something in my head when I read lyrics on here. Eg male/female or some music or something. But not with that lyric, unfortunately
Honeyroar · 14/10/2020 21:10

Thanks for all your support guys. I know Flouncing Babooshka has a lot going on too. Mums just had a never ending stream of issues, which have turned her from a happy, extremely active lady to a shell in a few years. They’ve just found possible cancer now too. I was just having a fed up day. Work cheered me up, believe it or not! I’ve been left in charge of Halloween decorations and have gone large!!

@coffee yours is Americanos by Holly Johnson, I think

Fleamaker123 · 14/10/2020 21:38

Sorry to hear that Honeyroar 💐
It's just been the crappest year hasn't it... hope we can cheer you up on here.

FlouncingBabooshka · 14/10/2020 21:45

Okay, here are more lyrics for my two outstanding songs. Both 80s.

Bridges of muscles spanning so long and high
merchants from Stepney walking pretty ladies by
rain is the tears of the never never navvies who cry
for the bridge that doesn't go
in the direction of Dublin

Just look at that girl
She owns the ground she walks on and she walks all over you
Just look at that girl
She smiles and breaks your heart, there's nothing you can do
She's got diamond rings from her dad

FlouncingBabooshka · 14/10/2020 21:47

Oh @Honeyroar, that must be so hard for you. I’m so sorry.

Honeyroar · 14/10/2020 22:00

I’m ok. Staying positive until we know more. At least they’re doing something! I’ve had so many things bowled at me over the last few years that I’m a bit numb to it all now. Things don’t freak me out as much! And yes this thread is a good diversion. 😘

CoffeeBeansGalore · 15/10/2020 10:26

@Honeyroar correct with Americanos. Sorry to hear about your mum. Everything crossed that things turn out ok x

Now I've stood on your shadow
And I've watched it grow
And it's shaken and it's driven me
And let me know
80s

Is that Real gone Kid - Deacon Blue @TwigTheWonderKid?
Sorry if anybody else has already guessed it.
Sorry to hear about your Mum @Honeyroar

FlouncerInDenial · 15/10/2020 15:49

So sorry about your mum, Honey. Sending love and hugs (but no points). I'll award your mum 10 50 bonus points if that helps?

FlouncingB, I'm sorry, but I don't think i know either of your city ones.

FlouncerInDenial · 15/10/2020 16:05

ok, I know how much you lot love a theme.
Sorry if this one's been done. But there's a LOT of milage in it!

I have, however, included one song that fits in well with Twig's rainbow colour theme from the other day just to confuse you all and for my own amusement.

You can tell her I had to change my plans and cancel out the wedding day
But please don't mention my lonely cell where I'm gonna pine away
Until my dying day
50s

Our mothers cried
Sang along, who'd blame them?
80s

I used to say I and me, now it's us, now it's we
70s

She just can't be chained
To a life where nothing's gained
Or nothing's lost, at such a cost
60s

Better think of your future (ah-ah-ah)
70s

See the sky in front of you
And her face is like a sail
Speck of white so fair and pale
Have you seen a lady fairer?
60s

With a kiss
I'd pass the key
And feel your tongue
Teasing and receiving.
80s

I got up to wash my face
When I come back to bed
Someone's taken my place
70s

I will always want you for my sweetheart
No matter what you do
60s

Well, I'm not the world's most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
70s

He rode through the fields, so handsome and strong
His eyes was his tools and his smile was his gun
But all he had come for was having some fun
90s
