Glasses wearers

Random question for glasses wearers.

Has anyone ever deliberately broken your glasses? I don't wear glasses, so it hasn't happened to me. I am curious as to how often it does happen.

No and I've worn glasses for 35 years.

Pelleas · 02/10/2020 12:31

No. An abusive ex once took them from me, but didn't break them.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 02/10/2020 12:50

No. I only started wearing them at 18 though. My DD is 6 and has been wearing them for 18 months and has never had this happen. Although another child did take them off her the other day. Angry

No. I don't personally know anyone vindictive enough or abusive.

Reykjavikagain · 02/10/2020 12:51

I’ve worn glasses for 40+ years and have broken them once by sitting on them and once melted them on the hob. No one else has damaged them.

SahmedOut · 02/10/2020 12:52

Once when I was 8 or 9. They said it was an accident.

milienhaus · 02/10/2020 12:55

No, thank god. I have very poor eyesight so no idea how I’d get home etc. It would really take an awful person to do that to someone.

SockQueen · 02/10/2020 12:56

No, never. Have worn them about 25 years now from the age of 11.

VictoriaBun · 02/10/2020 12:56

Tell us your story op ? ( Hope your ok )

Dreamersandwishers · 02/10/2020 13:00

Gosh no - who does that? Worn for almost 50 years - through school etc.
Never been an issue.

Recui · 02/10/2020 13:01

Once in 30 years of glasses wearing.

motorcyclenumptiness · 02/10/2020 13:03

No. I did once get called 'four eyes' by a random passing stranger.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 02/10/2020 13:05

No and I started wearing them age 3

BasiliskStare · 02/10/2020 13:06

Why do you ask ? I have never experienced it btw.

NoseRinger · 02/10/2020 13:08

I don't have a story. I'm just curious because I've seen it happen on tv once or twice, but not in real life.

Ex did once to 'teach me a lesson'. Took them off my face and snapped them in half down the bridge.

VictoriaBun · 02/10/2020 13:12

@NoseRinger Ah ok , just thought you might have been pondering a situation.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/10/2020 13:13

Nope. I only started as a teenager though. I once accidentally broke someone's glasses while tickling them but never come across damage on purpose.

Ds1 has written glasses since he was 5 now a teen. Had patches too. Never any problems or glasses or patches related bullying. His glasses have been broken by others a few times but always accidentally. Usually caused by ds taking glasses off for some reason and leaving them in the middle of the floor and them getting trodden or sat on.

RedMarauder · 02/10/2020 13:14

Nope.

When I was a teen someone misheard me. They took off my glasses and placed them somewhere safe before throwing me on the floor.

NoseRinger · 02/10/2020 13:31

I am pleased to hear this has not happened to many of you. I'm not really surprised that domestic abusers would try it.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 02/10/2020 13:35

Nope. I did once drop mine when I was walking, I'd taken them off to wipe them, promptly dropped them and then stepped on them 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was wearing my heavy walking boots at the time so my poor specs were obliterated Sad

Yes, I did Blush I can’t remember why though, I must have been 11.
Brockwell · 02/10/2020 13:38

Glasses are very tough nowadays. Apart from the odd screw coming out I've never needed my specs to be fixed.

DrGachet · 02/10/2020 13:40

I managed to break my abusive man habit before I started wearing spectacles, so no.

I break them myself a lot though (accidentally)

Topseyt · 02/10/2020 13:40

No, and I have been wearing them since I was three. I'm 54 now.

I can't really picture a scenario in which I would have wanted to do that.
