I like some of the stuff advertised

some of it in the ad space at the top of mumsnet, notably the mountain patterned fleeces and matching handbags! And the boots too!

I've never been good at fashion but now i'm older im beginning to not care, and its not as if my friends see much of me these days to criticise!

I got a couple of tops from shein last year and they were fine so i'm tempted

We shop on Shein all the time. Mostly it’s good.

hopelessbusiness · 02/10/2020 09:29

I bought from Airydress who popped up on my FB feed - horrible clothes and nothing like the pictures! Very difficult to get a refund too. Check reviews before you buy. (Shein are ok I think but a lot of the others are dodgy.)

MrsShelton · 02/10/2020 11:18

yes, and not as cheap as i thought they would be!

Newchic has poor reviews unfortunately. Bad quality, sizing is off, difficult to get refunds, fake pictures, etc, which is a shame as I like the look of their stuff.

MrsShelton · 06/10/2020 22:38

oh really, thats not good news then!

I've never ordered anything but if I did I assume it was made by someone earning a pittance, will be crap quality & the fit/sizing would be random. I imagine trying to a get a refund would be a challenge.

MrsShelton · 06/10/2020 22:53

i'm happy to take the chance i think

theres just one fleece/jumper that keeps catching my eye, about £20 ish

OP posts:
whoopma · 06/10/2020 23:03

Because if you don't like it, it doesn't matter it was only £20? I hate fast fashion.

MrsShelton · 06/10/2020 23:06

no i mean the issue with returning. can't see why there would be a problem

i barely buy anything o to me its not 'fast fashion' i rarely buy clothes for myself. i wear a uniform at work and i'm just not a person bothered much by fashion.

OP posts:
LtJudyHopps · 06/10/2020 23:20

If it’s SHEIN they always have some sort of discount code and now offer free returns!
Cheaper doesn’t always mean fast fashion - some of my favourite jumpers are from primark and last years.

UnitedRoad · 06/10/2020 23:38

My daughter bought some stuff from Romwe (was really pleased with all of it, but the individual bags the T-shirt’s came in had Shein branding, so I guess it’s the same company.

By the way, the individual garment bags aren’t cellophane, like usual, they’re thicker ziplock bags, which I’ll definitely reuse. I haven’t bought new clothes for over a year, so apologies if all bags are like this now

whoopma · 06/10/2020 23:39

Do people not understand what fast fashion is? It's the fast production of cheap items constantly. Just because you buy one item a yr from Shein doesn't mean the business isn't built around fast fashion.

Gilead · 07/10/2020 00:06

Dd buys from Shien and is happy with it.
whoopma Some people don’t have choices.

whoopma · 07/10/2020 00:20

Yeah like the adults & kids who make the clothes for peanuts

MrsShelton · 07/10/2020 00:41

So let’s stop buying it all and put them out of a job eh?

OP posts:
Anordinarymum · 07/10/2020 00:46

It all looks too good to be true to me, and that's because it probably is

Nat6999 · 07/10/2020 01:23

I have bought from Shein this summer, T shirts & pyjamas, it is all cheap & cheerful stuff, good enough if you are only wanting it to last 1-2 seasons, sizings are accurate, some does look like copies from designer labels.

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 07/10/2020 06:47

I've shopped in Shein twice now and I've not been disappointed.

I will happily use them again.

whoopma · 07/10/2020 07:37

Yep, cause that's the only alternative, Screw the environment because I'm providing jobs for those kids. 🙄 Your need for cheap clothes is more important, at least own it!

MrsShelton · 07/10/2020 07:54

Lol this is turning out quite funny!

I’ve seen something I like...that’s different....from a place I don’t usually buy from, cheap or not, I don’t really care about the money....it’s just something I like, like when you see a piece of jewellery/boots/car or a house..... it catches your eye. I’ve no real desire for cheap clothing or expensive clothing.....it’s just something I LIKE

That never happened to you before @whoopma? Seen something you like?

psychomath · 07/10/2020 07:55

I've bought Socofy boots from Newchic twice and was happy with them both times - they seemed quite well made and lasted a lot longer than comparably priced ones from M&S. No idea about ttheir other clothes though.

This. They are ripping off the original designers, underpaying workers and producing synthetic crap that is shipped internationally, doesn't last and will add to our landfill mountains. But so long as @MrsShelton has something she "LIKES", eh?
