I like some of the stuff advertised

some of it in the ad space at the top of mumsnet,notably the mountain patterned fleeces and matching handbags! And the boots too!

I've never been good at fashion but now i'm older im beginning to not care, and its not as if my friends see much of me these days to criticise!

I got a couple of tops from shein last year and they were fine so i'm tempted

My DD 18 is very slim and really likes the shien clothing as she finds it hard to get clothes to fit in high street shops. We seem to have had no problems with delivery and returns so far.

@LavenderQuartz

oh, and whoever mention H&M upthread......nah,they are the same as other brands. they use child labour, of course they do!

even those who claim not to.....they won't know who is lower down the supply chain. for example, cotton. child labour is used to collect cotton from the fields!

They're not the same. I used to work in manufacturing (not in fashion, but similar challenges), and this attitude is really damaging. The Fashion Transparency Index for example does a lot of work to look at how companies review their entire supply chain, and H&M far outperforms Zara for example.

But that takes time and work (a lot of work! It's hard to audit some factories in China, for example, when if a dodgy sub-contracting place has any advance notice of your visit you'll see essentially a theatre show put on for your benefit), and if they see that consumers either don't care or trust any of it, if lets companies off the hook for trying to make even smaller steps towards sustainability.

I try not to buy anything from any company that doesn't have an anti slavery policy

Bloomburger · 07/10/2020 15:51

MrsShelton lets stop buying it and get these kids into school, mostly girls btw. Let's stop buying it and stop the damage to the environment from these factories. Let's stop buying it and stop the labourers being treated appallingly for wages which are quite frankly laughable.

@LavenderQuartz to repeat @OverTheRubicon, it's complex.

Topshop & it's ilk will have QC departments that regularly audit suppliers & factories & test the clothing. Does that mean there are zero issues, no because suppliers will outsource & it's very difficult to control that. However Topshop & H&M will try hard to have control & accountability whereas the likes of Shein won't.

As consumers we are also responsible for demanding better. As I said earlier if it's not important to you, just own it.
