As I want to make some plans but I’m unsure what’s happening

@bigbumbiggerheart I live in Cornwall. In one of the areas with fast growing rates. 60 odd miles away from Pool. There are clusters here that are totally unrelated to the meat plant. For example, the outbreak at Raleigh.

@OrangeSamphire

My apologies I didn't realise they were there as well - the naval base at Raleigh? Torpoint.

That's worrying then since the neighbouring county appears (at present) to have a low number still.

I run an adult education centre. We haven’t been told about a lockdown but were asked to consider a two week half term in October earlier in the year because we continued through Easter and May half term and are over on our weeks for provision and there is no additional funding. We actually have continued with a one week half term as our adults don’t cope well with extended breaks and many suffer with anxiety and mental health issues which of course are exacerbated with the current situation. I do hope there isn’t a new lockdown as we have a cottage booked not far from is just to have a break as we really haven’t had anything at all so far this year and need a break! But who can tell? We can only control our own decisions and our own safety measures, follow the rules and use common sense.

I work in a primary school, in an area that has just gone back on the watch list and I haven't heard anything about having 2 weeks at half term. Our half term is the last week in October.

Yes Torpoint @bigbumbiggerheart. There was an outbreak at Raleigh but now it’s in the community too. Also, Tamar Valley, Bodmin, other areas not immediately near Pool.

Hard to know if it’s connected to the busy tourist season or whether this would have happened anyway.

@OrangeSamphire

I have just been on the phone to family in Cornwall and there are cases all over. I really didn't know and thought just the Tulip factory outbreak. Although at the factory 170 positive - around 100 had no symptoms at all so were unknowingly spreading it around...
Thanks for highlighting to me.

There are also cases now in Penryn area and gradually spreading around. It's very worrying

Rockbird · 01/10/2020 21:42

We're hoping to go to Cornwall in half term, selfish fuckers that we are. Although we did book it a year ago and didn't have our psychic heads on...

However, we're very polite, very respectful and extremely good at social distancing and mask wearing so I hope we'll be welcomed Wink

OrangeSamphire · 01/10/2020 21:46

Why selfish @Rockbird?

Rockbird · 01/10/2020 22:04

Oh just quoting a poster above Smile.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 01/10/2020 23:31

Hope so

I haven’t read the whole thread so it may already have been mentioned but I’ve just completed a survey for my son’s high school which asked around 5 questions on home access to laptop/other device, internet Connection and knowledge (reminder needed?) on accessing Google classrooms.

Sounds to me like a lockdown is highly likely!

Augustbreeze · 02/10/2020 09:41

@TheRosesAreInBloom all schools have been told to be ready for students to have to study at home at any moment, this is part of that.

Them being at home could be caused by an individual self isolation situation, a bubble closing or the whole school closed.

Ethelswith · 02/10/2020 09:51

I was talking to a teacher acquaintance, who has said that there is no word on a two-week standardised half term in England, but that it hasn't been ruled out of the planning scenarios.

She was also talking about the difficulties of teaching (KS1) when some pupils have fallen behind really badly, whilst others have flourished during the time at home. She's always struck me as really conscientious, and she said she's exhausted already
