As I want to make some plans but I’m unsure what’s happening

@dumplingsandstew

No you're right.

PollyPelargonium52 · 01/10/2020 06:57

I don't see a two week half term October whatsoever no. The government is persisting to keep schools fully open wherever possible.

meditrina · 01/10/2020 07:03

My post was in response to the one about the tattie holidays - should have made that clearer (it was going to be the following post, but others appeared as I typed). Half terms starting in Scotland in less than a week is a Holyrood issue, if they need to alter restrictions. No where else if that early,

Also I was talking about the home nations separately because that is how Covid response is organised. There is no one UK response because health, education etc are devolved.

The situation is NI, Wales rarely gets a mention, ditto the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

boriselbow · 01/10/2020 07:18

I don't think anything can be ruled out, and got the distinct impression that part of the reason for Boris' statement yesterday was to warn us all that further restrictions are imminent if we don't tow the line. (I've noticed this tends to happen- there's a 'we're all in this together/ let's beat the virus/use common sense' statement then about a week later a very serious face statement with more restrictions).

I know that some schools are preparing plans in case this happens, but that's because they know they will be given no notice (rather than because they've been tipped off)

saracorona · 01/10/2020 07:32

In Liverpool, yes. I have friend who teaches, who is waiting for confirmation of a two week half term. And another friend who is in the theatre business and was planning for kids shows during the half term has been told there will be a two week lockdown for half term.

DumplingsAndStew · 01/10/2020 08:23

What dates is that then @saracorona ? And is that just local?

saracorona · 01/10/2020 11:35

Liverpool half term starts at 23/10/2020

bridgetreilly · 01/10/2020 12:50

But we have plans to go away within the next few days. We haven't had any indication of needing to cancel.

Half term is not happening within the next few days, ffs.

Not for you, maybe, but you are not the centre of the world. Ffs, indeed.

I think it the sort of situation where it is a good idea to stay at home. We know the virus is spreading rapidly so why not help the country by staying home as much as possible. If you have some sort of family crisis - eg dying relative to visit - then try to do it as safely as possible.

Mesoavocado · 01/10/2020 17:49

I believe Scotland will do this if numbers don’t decrease from 12-23 October

littlemisskt · 01/10/2020 17:54

I think they will, the media keep mentioning a ‘circuit break’ and this would be the perfect time as school will already be closed for at least a week. I think they’ll still open businesses etc but ban all indoor gatherings of more than one household.

munchkinman · 01/10/2020 18:02

Definitely still an option. Ex is a head of education for a county and has been told to be on standby.

monkeytennis97 · 01/10/2020 18:16

Something has been put in place at the DfE (just seen on Twitter) from October 22nd... will find link. It looks like a whole load of legalese so I don't really know what it is...

FelicisNox · 01/10/2020 18:23

I hope not.. I actually have plans for once.

VikingVolva · 01/10/2020 18:24

This link takes you straight to what was gazetted

www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/3642261

It's CSA only, so sixth formers couid be left high and dry (or have I missed something important?)

zafferana · 01/10/2020 18:27

I don't either @monkeytennis97. From a quick scan I'd say that the govt has put in place formal rules insisting that all schools, whether state or private, have to provide formal remote learning in the event of a second national lockdown. I don't see any information about dates though.

WendyE · 01/10/2020 18:44

I'd say it's a racing certainty, along with the same over Christmas🙄

OrangeSamphire · 01/10/2020 18:49

Actually @bigbumbiggerheart that’s not the case. Yes there are 170 cases associated to a meat processing plant in Pool, but there are hundreds of cases all over Cornwall across 18 different clusters.

bigbumbiggerheart · 01/10/2020 18:55

@OrangeSamphire

Actually the 170 positive covid cases at a meat processing plant are in CORNWALL - link here - www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/coronavirus-meat-plant-cornwall-covid-cases-b726734.html as I originally said.

Zoejj77 · 01/10/2020 18:58

No I don’t think so. May be restrictions on travel ie prefer people don’t leave their county etc but can’t see us going back to what we did in April

bigbumbiggerheart · 01/10/2020 19:00

@OrangeSamphire

sorry I pressed enter too quick

the cases have been found to link back to people at the processing plant... interestingly another report says only 150 cases but since there were 170 all positive for one employer....

It will spread out of course and probably already has since people will have been in contact with others in the Pool/Redruth/Camborne areas - which are all very close to each other and not spread throughout Cornwall which is a huge county and where some of many family live there are no cases (thankfully)

movingonup20 · 01/10/2020 19:02

There's no half term for most people so why then? It's not even the same week in all schools. If there's a national lockdown it will be when it's needed not coordinated for the convenience of parents with younger school aged kids

movingonup20 · 01/10/2020 19:03

@Lardlizard

Half term varies by up to 2 weeks. Ours was normally around the 12th October
