What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

I’m amused by the posters who are saddened by the inclusion of their own, or their children’s names

Me too, not sure why people get so butt hurt that their kids names are not universally liked.

My first name is on here as is my maiden name "George" which i don't like either because it makes me think of a jowly, pudding-gy, pasty kid.

My kids both have surnames for first names which are always on the Mumsnet shit list 🤣

as pp said anything hyphenated with -May/-Rae/-Rose
Elsie-May ,Evie-Rae, Ava-Rose.

Interestingly hyphenated doesn't seem to happen with boys nearly as often.

Urgh.

Jill, India, Dido.....
Cayden, Jayden, Hayden, Taylor, Mason, Brooklyn,
Double barrelled names and names misspelt, such as Jak, Hollee.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 28/09/2020 17:23

BINGO!
I checked the thread this morning but only three of the four names in our house were mentioned.
Full house now Grin.

IntermittentParps · 28/09/2020 17:32

Wayne and Nathan.
Not THAT irrational as they were two boys who used to torment me when I was little. But it was a long time ago, so it is a bit irrational.

Also Noah. So dreary/worthy/stodgy/humourless somehow. I've a family member and a friend/acquaintance who both called their sons Noah, so I do feel bad about saying that!

Caleb I think is a very ugly sound.

I am irrationally annoyed by old-man and old-lady names for young children .g. Maisie, Arthur, although it's doubly irrational as I like other similar names like Maud, Agnes, Charlie and Olive.

I love lots of the names on here and would particularly go into battle over Benedict and Clementine.

Mousetrap3 · 28/09/2020 17:39

Miley and Brooke

minnie465 · 28/09/2020 17:42

Spotted my own name a few times! And DS'

Mine are names like Courtney, Scarlett, Harper.

Anything with Rose, May, Belle on the end. Makes me cringe.

Hate Arthur, Arlo, Oscar also.

Jimdandy · 28/09/2020 17:51

Leslie/Lesley on either a man or a woman. Especially shortened to Les aswell.

Double barrelled first names, and then especially if they’ve some random spelling like Jaycee-Lee. Made up spellings and double barrelled first names are just chavvy.

Harley, anything like Jayden, Kayden etc

amieejust · 28/09/2020 17:54

Sharon - the ones I've known are nasty, smug scheming bitches and boyfriend/husband stealers too.

Sarah - sensible and uninteresting name.

Hannah

Vicky/Victoria

happymummy12345 · 28/09/2020 17:59

Of course the hyphenated name comments are as present as ever. Rude comments about them as always. I love my hyphenated fleet name, it's NOT chavvy at all

Jimdandy · 28/09/2020 18:03

That’s my opinion and I’m sticking with it. I cringe at the chaviness every time I hear one. If your offended by “rude” comments and others opinions, best steer clear of internet message boards!

danascully96 · 28/09/2020 18:03

Donald, definitely Wink

myusernamewastakenbyme · 28/09/2020 18:04

I used to know a Wilson years ago....bloody awful name.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 28/09/2020 18:32

Nicholas - always sounds pompous to me
John-Paul - although like John on it's own.
Marnie - doesn't sound like a proper name at all
Imogen - sounds like a laundry detergents
Arabella - excessively frilly and horsey.
Guy - so generic it sounds like calling someone 'bloke'

anything with a 'yoonique' spelling

Pet8 · 28/09/2020 19:51

Luna (lunatic)
Lana (don't the parents read it backwards?)
Nevaeh (yuck)
Isobel/ Isobelle/ Isabella (just stop now. They're everywhere)

Parker
Carter
Mason
Kaden/ Jayden/ Braden
Geoff/ Jeff/ Geoffrey - the sound of it coming out of my mouth

SallySeven · 28/09/2020 19:54

I've just remembered another: Donnie.

I have never liked it even though Donnie Osmond was very sweet.

I even think Donald is better and that makes me think of a cartoon duck.

SallySeven · 28/09/2020 19:55

Geoffrey and Jed yep.

ohhhhhyes · 28/09/2020 20:01

Sally.
No reason, just hated it since I can remember

ohhhhhyes · 28/09/2020 20:07

Any families where the DC are named on a theme eg flowers or all starting with the same letter!

Yesterdayforgotten · 28/09/2020 20:46

@wishfull888 how bizarre, my college professor was called Paul and one of the most fascinating people I have ever met!
