What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

Zoe, Donna, Martha.

@Cissyandflora

William. When people say Willy- am I feel embarrassed. I have to say Will - yum. Even if they call themselves Willy- am.
Willy....GrinBlush

"If this thread were about other aspects of peoples identity, such as "which accents do you irrationally hate" it would be classed as discriminatory."

The Liverpool accent. It sounds desperate, whiney and loud. 🤷🏼

@Couchbettato That really made me laugh!!!! 🤣

My daughter's name appears several times on here :-(

I can't stand names that are also words.
Rob.
Mark. You might as well call your son 'stain'.
Matt. Welcome to the world, baby Carpet.

Grace
Alison
Sally
Becky (Rebecca doesn’t bother me)
Ruth
Helen
Jane

Ryan

Seth
Mark
David / Dave

That's a funny observation. 😂
Cissyandflora · 10/04/2021 14:06

I’ve always thought Mark may as well be stain or skid.

emmylousings · 10/04/2021 15:32

I can't stand flower names (Daisy /Lilly / Poppy) I just think they are so wimpy, like a name for a pet not a woman. I feel (irrationally) that these names might prevent people from taking a grown woman seriously.

I also loath season names; a friend called her DD Autumn, which I find unbearable. I'm always reminded of a character in Eastender's who called her DD 'Summer', it's a season, not a name!!!

emmylousings · 10/04/2021 15:36

I would like a thread on annoying accents. Would have plenty to contribute!!

Just because you find something annoying doesn't mean it's 'discriminatory'. I find the name Daisy annoying but I know I would not discriminate against someone called that.

emmylousings · 10/04/2021 15:47

Feeling quite smug that neither of my DS's names have featured! Mine has been mentioned but, hey, I didn't choose that..

WakyWally · 29/10/2023 20:36

Agree with most on here. Cutsy, seasonal, American sounding, old fashioned are not good. Eg, Millie, Betsy, Belle, Minnie, Autumn, Summer, Willow, Cody, Cory, Maddison, Albie, Chase, Kayden, Jayden, Kit, Jude, Nevaeh, Tallulah, Elsie, Ivy, Olive, Reggie, Ronnie, Teddy...............

faffadoodledo · 29/10/2023 21:04

Linked to school bullies, I can't stand Milly, Anna or Rosa. Perfectly decent names forever tainted

CormoranStrike · 29/10/2023 21:28

Barry

DoraSpenlow · 29/10/2023 21:43

Florence

Greengagesummer65 · 29/10/2023 21:44

Traditional names with made up spellings to make them ‘different’. Rooth or Jooleea or Krysteena or Dayvid, you get the idea 😣

Warehouuse · 29/10/2023 21:45

Albert
Duncan
Declan
Darren
Edith
Ethel
Mavis
Sidney

I'm not against old names, but there are some old names that are just awful. Like Sidney belongs in a Carry On movie, not a lovely new baby.

Jorja. I kid you not.

messy123 · 30/10/2023 10:15

Sophie.
At one point there were no less than 5 Sophie's in my old workplace and they all annoyed me for different reasons.

Never met an Adam who turned out to be nice.
Jennifer.
Elizabeth.
Jake.

I think Poppy and Imogen are beautiful but one of them is my DD's name.

CandyLeBonBon · 30/10/2023 13:28

Sharon and Dawn (even though one of those is also my middle name and the other is the name of an old school best friend!) because they are the names of two girls who bullied me when I was 5/6 and I've never been able to shake the association.

containsnuts · 30/10/2023 16:45

90s brand names: Calvin, Levi, Morgan.

Zaphodsotherhead · 30/10/2023 17:37

I dislike what I think of as 'my mum's friends' names - Hilda, Bertha, Doris, Ethel, that sort of name. They might be coming back into fashion, but they will forever remind me of plump little ladies in housecoats and curlers.
