I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

Kit - it seems to be recommended on every Baby Name thread on here but it's just awful. It's not a name, it's just a noun - sewing kit, first-aid kit, PE kit, kit car, 'get yer kit off', Kit-Kat 😄 And yes, I know Kit Harington blah blah, but I still think it's a terrible non-name.

Lottie mollie millie Immy Bronnie Daisy Tilly silly frilly, gender-stereotype reinforcing names. Ditto those strong middle class boys' names: Magnus, Thor., Bear. Fox. Ugh.

Sally - just hate the sound. Sorry Sallys although I'm sure you dont care!

Petronella - between a rock and a stomach bug.
Candida - bring the canesten.
Cillian - I now know it's pronounced with a hard C but why would you name your child something that sounds like killing? In English that is.
I love virtue names but I always think you must be asking for trouble. What if Chastity grows up to be a slapper and Mercy to be a sadist?

eausolovely · 28/09/2020 03:29

As a child, I somehow got it into my head that 'Sarah' was the default, most boring girls' name, and should now only be used in books. I'm not sure why, as I only knew one or two and knew many more Samanthas and Hannahs etc. Sara was OK, but I felt a deep well of sympathy for any Sarah I came across, and wondered how their parents could have named them that. Didn't they know it wasn't supposed to be used for real people any more?

I know its completely irrational, but I still feel bad for all the Sarahs out there.

amieejust · 28/09/2020 07:08

missmouse101 · 28/09/2020 07:28

Luna (loony), Emma, Charlotte, Grace, Anna (boring as...), Amelia/Emilia (awful 'mealy' sound), Dave (always creepy), Candida (thrush), Jayden, Aurora (roar, roar, roar), Ezra (sounds like a wizened old man in a robe.)

I used to work with a man who hated the name Zoe.

He would randomly say, "Fucking stupid name Zoe, who the fuck would use that?"

No idea why, he didn't know any Zoes to my knowledge, he would just mutter for a while then start off on a rant.

He also wouldn't go abroad on holiday because, "I've been once, they say they do English food but it isn't the same".

I'm not keen on surnames as given names, Taylor in particular, it's such a common surname that in a few years there will be a few Taylor Taylors about. I know not everyone changes their name if they get married but it doesn't stop other people using it.

BusterGonad · 28/09/2020 08:06

I'm not keen on Mason, Jaxson, Ronnie, Reggie, Archie, Frank. I don't like any girls names spelt in this fashion either such as Maisie Mae etc. I'm obviously a complete snob as I dislike the double ones like Ella Mae etc.
Ian is a horrible sounding name.
I'm not a great fan of the top names such as Olivia, Jack, Charley/Charlie, Archie and Florence. I just think there's so many good names out there why commit your child to a name that so many others have? Having said that my sons name has been mention twice, I suppose it could be classed as boring, maybe I should've called him something edgy!

amieejust · 28/09/2020 08:11

Adrian

SchadenfreudePersonified · 28/09/2020 08:15

@TheSandman

Piers - I haven't met anyone called Piers who hasn't been a total c*nt.

I've never met any Tarquins but assume they will be the same.

Can't help but agree.

I think this is genetic memory from our ancestors kicking in - in the same way that if you'd never seen a rat, you would know one when you saw it,

gretagreengrapes · 28/09/2020 08:16

Chloe.

It's the 'chl' sound at the beginning I dislike!

Imissmoominmama · 28/09/2020 08:21

I’m amused by the posters who are saddened by the inclusion of their own, or their children’s names, who then go on to list their own dislikes.

SallySeven · 28/09/2020 08:54

Schadenfreude : that would explain my irrational dislike of Oliver!

rayoflightboy · 28/09/2020 08:56

My kids names have been mentioned.

Here's mine
Barry
Alfie or any part of sounding name
Dave
Mike
Nigel

Girls names
Emma/ Sarah must be a he most boring and overused names.

Ethel,Mabel, Gertrude you must really hate your kids😂

FrenchBoule · 28/09/2020 09:24

George. I picture a pompous prick despite knowing several George’s and all of them are nice.

Names finishing with -ie Rosie,Evie,Alfie
Flowery names- Lily,Poppy,Rose (and I love gardening)

Any names with unusual spelling, nothing “oh so speshul” about them ( yes Cathee, you are still called Cathy)

And usual offenders -yden Cayden,Jayden and so on.

Fanny- not sure what mother had in ming calling her daughter like this (apparently it’s so classic and sweet)

Several others but won’t bore you.

Each to their own I suppose
