I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

Ethan has to be my least favorite boy bame despite knowing a lovely one.

Sebastian a lovely way to describe a child à la Les Dawson. A right little Sebastian. In other words spawn of Satan, a right little bastard! Has its uses to the pp who hates it.

My hates
Nigel - image of wet-fish flabby sweaty handshake. Possibly with erectile dysfunction. Totally inadequate.
David/Dave - stbxh and ex-fiancé to whom marriage was and would have been legalised rape.
Karl/Carl - just no
Kevin - despite Costner, makes me think of an oik 19 years old a colleague Yes, spotty ex-yts covered in pimples at 19 and lived at home paid more than me at 25 with stbxh and mortgage, he had colour TV and vcr used to record stretch jeans ads (early 80s) and replay on freeze-frame. Too much money, and no girl would have looked at time, pre-internet and no porn, despite 'dirty Eric' s'shop near Preston sale and return on top-shelf mags.

And the French habit of hyphenation using a male-female combo
Jean-Marie and
Jean-Louise???? For men?? Wtf's going on?

TheSandman · 27/09/2020 23:32

Piers - I haven't met anyone called Piers who hasn't been a total c*nt.

I've never met any Tarquins but assume they will be the same.

Uh oh, four out of six of our names on here! Grin

I particularly dislike boys names with V in them - Kevin, Gavin, Vincent, Trevor. Kevin and Trevor seem to be inexplicably popular in America.

I also really really detest the twee old lady and old man names that are popular. Kit for Christopher and Arthur in particular make me grind my teeth. I remember reading a thread on Baby Names about the name Mildred. Mildred. I don't doubt someone has a lovely granny called Mildred, but it's not even a pretty sounding name! I honestly find the middle-class Waitrose names (great description whoever said it upthread) even worse than the creative spellings.

LadyGAgain · 27/09/2020 23:39

Ria/Rhea - an Australian bird. And another word for your behind/bum/arse

Hyphen names. No idea why but annoying. Especially those ending in Mae/May

notangelinajolie · 27/09/2020 23:40

Claudia.
No idea why but I really dislike it. Alot.

newtb · 27/09/2020 23:43

Oh yes people not using the correct spelling of male/female names

So Leslie / Lesley
Vivian / Vivienne
Adrian /Adrienne
Francis/Frances
Etc

And even worse, when challenged, "Leslie really suits my little girl". (Needs to shuffle to pedants' corner).

Let's hope the registrars concerned can exert some influence. Oh no, just remembered the little girl, I think, registered in June 1966 with several names, Charlton (or maybe Jack and Bobby), Moore, Charlton again,..... yes, the name of every player in the England World Cup winning team. Think he left out the ref and the linesman, and not sure if Ramsey (Alf the manager) got a look in or not.

However, no one's had a chance to repeat that one, given England's dismal record in international football since then. 😁

My dc names on there! Who is cares!

Longdistance · 27/09/2020 23:49

Every Rachel I’ve ever met has been a royal pita. Really awkward and self centred.
I don’t like the name Daniel, Sue, any version of Leigh/Lee/Leanne, Laura, Melanie, Lyndsey (I’ve fallen out with three) Blush
These names put me off only because of who they are.

Greenleaves21 · 27/09/2020 23:51

Olivia. I have never met a nice one, and always with oblivious/obnoxious parents. Sorry...

danascully96 · 27/09/2020 23:53

SinisterBumFacedCat · 27/09/2020 23:55

Isobel/Isobella I don’t know why but it just makes me think of having bad hay fever.

Bart/Bert sounds too much like “fart”.
