What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

This is a particularly horrible discussion. It has just about every name I can think of on here. Nothing like making people feel good. I guess the ‘be kind’ thread had had its day on mumsnet.
Well exactly, which goes to show that this is just subjective and not to be taken too seriously.
MondeoFan · 05/04/2021 08:28

Amelia, Grace, Ava, Evie - just horrible names. There's thousands out there all with the same name. The parents didn't have any imagination and just went for the most popular name.

I like most boys names except for the chavy sounding ones Bailey, Jayden, Kayden, Caiden, Harvey, Greyson that type of thing

Is it? My name and my DCs name has appeared. So have hundreds of others. Why should I care?

I forgot Brianna/Brie. Unfortunately cheesy.

And Jessamy. Two perfectly OK names but they sound like a cut'n'shut (to me) when put together.

People are honestly so over-sensitive. My name is on here, as well as the 2 names we’ve picked for our baby. I’ll get over it

Ah, get a grip. My name is a "marmite" name, some people love it but I've seen it on here described as "twee" and "weak". I don't care. It's a name. Stop being so overly sensitive.
midnightstar66 · 05/04/2021 10:00

I don't think anyone really cares that a random stranger at 12.35 last Tuesday didn't much like their name. If you do care then you're pretty fortunate that's the sort of thing that takes up your worries.

WindyPudding · 05/04/2021 10:15

If there’s pretty much every name on here then we’re all in the same boat, aren’t we. Someone out there hates our name or our child’s name. That’s inevitable. When we choose a baby name we love some and some make us go “omg no no xxxx, that reminds me of my bully” or whatever.

Not only is my name and my dc name on here, but I also hate my own name. Somehow I cope!

WindyPudding · 05/04/2021 10:18

Also you just used sarcasm and sneering to slag off all the posters on the thread so be kind, be schmind.

Or maybe we can just air our thoughts and have a chat? The thread title makes it clear so anyone who doesn’t want to see someone be rude about their name could avoid it surely?

HeronLanyon · 05/04/2021 10:21

I think the thread was intended to be more interesting than just ‘what names don’t you like’. There was the inclusion of ‘irrational’.
My own contribution - Samantha - is wholly irrational. My rational head knows it’s an ok name and there is no rational reason for my dislike (no bully or similar).
So if I see ‘heron’ here I won’t take it personally.
Even if I saw - I hate ‘heron’ they are always awful etc I’d just think - interesting no ones ever said that before - I too have names I don’t like.

StCharlotte · 05/04/2021 10:22

Leslie and Lesley. Looks and sounds so ugly. And I always think the male/female spellings are the wrong way round.

WindyPudding · 05/04/2021 10:24

Yes I’ve always thought that about Lesley and Leslie! But then sometimes you get a female Leslie which is even more confusing.

FishyFriday · 05/04/2021 10:26

I don’t know why people get upset about this stuff. My name has been mentioned many times. With detailed explanations of why it’s shit.

I’m not offended. It’s a pretty terrible name. I always wonder what my parents were thinking.

I think people are perfectly happy with these threads while people are slagging off 'chav' names.

The trouble starts when people start slagging off more 'MC' names...

@MondeoFan I agree.

I dislike chav names and make no apologies for saying so. Each to their own!! Half of them look made up anyway and all these hyphenated abominations, don't get me started!

Cissyandflora · 05/04/2021 12:37

I have contributed many names to this list. Have just seen that mine is on here now hahaha
I’m not offended and I really don’t think it’s a horrible thread. I’ve really enjoyed expressing myself. My family names- and now mine- are on people’s lists. It’s fine. We are all different. And absolutely we all judge whether we admit it or not. We have opinions.

LookAChicken · 05/04/2021 12:40

Exactly.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 05/04/2021 12:45

Nicholas - I cannot explain why. I've never met a bad one. There's just something about the combo of sounds that gets my back up. Sounds pompous somehow.

Arabella - again, just an irritating collection of sounds. Far too frilly and fussy.

Gina - the name of the bitchiest bully in my year at school. Has tainted the name for life as well as giving me a hatred of large hoop earrings. Grin

Cissyandflora · 05/04/2021 12:47
