I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

I knew someone who named their boy Carter. I mean, why would you? I'd always it associate with the band CarterUSM (maybe that's what they're aiming for Confused)

I had a lovely friend called Judith. She couldn’t stand her name so called herself Jude.

Ruth has a sound I don’t like.

I've never heard the name Darnley before but I already irrationally dislike it

There’s an area of Glasgow called Darnley. I can’t imagine choosing to name a child after it. 😂

Frazzledd · 05/04/2021 13:28

If we're generalising, we had a proper laugh at all the William Wibblington Wobbletons (nn Twonkers) that came out at the boat race yesterday.....

JellyBabiesFan · 05/04/2021 13:33

Jackson or got forbid Jaxon

Uberchav.

Watermelonsugar21 · 05/04/2021 13:51

-Anything hyphenated ie Ella-Louise.

  • Names that can be used for either gender, particularly when they sound like a boy’s name but are used for a girl ie Charlie, Bobby, Sam, Alex. Can’t stand them!
-Names that should actually be surnames ie Cooper, Lee, Miller etc

But the absolute worst is names that are spelt incorrectly just to be trendy... ie Jaxon instead of Jackson, Iyla instead of Isla... just why???

So many names I hate, gonna be hard choosing names for my future DC!

LowlandLucky · 05/04/2021 13:52

Chloe, Luke and Joshua. Every Chloe i had in my class was pretentious and spiteful, Luke because one Mother insisted on screeching Lukey as soon as she set foot in the playground and out of the12 out of the 13 Joshua's i had found it impossible not to fight.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/04/2021 13:54

Anyone else skip straight to the last page for the inevitable bunfight? I

It's not here, everyone's just chatting! What's going on?

LowlandLucky · 05/04/2021 13:57

Name a family that has the best names, I knew a family that were Daz, Shaz and Trace the dog, for those old enough to remember VIZ will get why it is such a great collection of names.

@JesusInTheCabbageVan someone was moaning that this thread wasn't v "be kind" a few pages back but got quickly shut down. Otherwise it's just people naming their school bullies Grin

I haven't read the whole thread but I'll bet anything mine and DD's names are both on it somewhere Wink
Anyway, can't bear Miles, Hugo, Archie, and yes anything randomly misspelt!

riotlady · 05/04/2021 16:35

Amy/Aimee, they were always the mean girl when I was at school

SignOnTheWindow · 05/04/2021 16:51

@FutureProofed

Nothing irrational about my dislike of imperfectly anglicised or plain wrong Irish names -- Neve for Niamh is awful, and don't get me started on Sorcha pronounced as 'SORE-sha' or Aoibheann pronounced Ay-VEEN, which would be correct only if Irish language phonetics were completely reinvented.

Cáitlín stripped of its fadas and pronounced 'Kate-Lin' also gives me the rage, but to be fair, it probably has its own independent existence at this point, even if its origins were in a misunderstanding.

Oh dear - I've been pronouncing these names wrong! How should they be pronounced? Or is it impossible to do properly in an English accent?

An Irish colleague of mine once called the name 'Siobhan' through, and was ignored, he called twice more before the mum said do you mean 'Sigh-oh-Bahn' 😅

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 05/04/2021 17:07

Most names suggested on the baby names board on here. They are usually so fucking irritatingly twee and try hard.
