What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

Flick and Fran as abbreviated names.

Darcey (no idea why but I did once have to leg it after a Darcey who was trying to do a runner so maybe that 's what did it)

iMatter · 04/04/2021 20:23

I think you ought to post your name and your kids' names if you're going to slate other people's names/their children's names.

Freya. Sounds so frail and weak, like her wrists would snap if she lifted anything heavier than a kitten.

Names like Emma or Amy, they are pretty names for young girls but I just can’t imagine a 70 year old women with the name Emma. Sorry if it offends anyone. I know lots with these names too.

Annamaywong25 · 04/04/2021 20:29

Joshua......yuk! And people that have named their offspring a ridiculous made up name and insist on shouting it out all over the supermarket cause they're soooo proud of their "originality"

FedNlanders · 04/04/2021 20:32

Thread is currently 24 pages long, think there's a possibility alot of pps names/childrens names have got a mention!

It's okay not to like a name, I don't like mine!

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 04/04/2021 20:34

Philippa. I don’t know why, I know one and she’s lovely but the name really grates on me. Also Toby.

Blondiney · 04/04/2021 20:34

Lincoln. Ugly shade of green and bland, cheap biscuits.

That's funny because my mother was Amy and her mother, Emma. There were no children of my age with those names when I was growing up, they seemed to come back into fashion when I entered my twenties so I associated them with old people.

Wendy always seemed like a childish name to me but now it seems very old fashioned.

Any derivative of Jane (Jean, Jeannette etc) just very dull.
Leslie (for a man, grim)
All the weird made-up ones: the Shayleens, Kai-anns and what have you.
Maureen, Brenda, Betty, very dated
Emily - quite a nice name but there was a period when every other young woman I met seemed to be called Emily (or Ellie).

Ones I’d love to hear more often:
Tabitha, Fenella (mainly due to the divine Ms Fielding) Liv.

Bunnybigears · 04/04/2021 20:52

Leslie as a male name makes me irrationally uncomfortable.

I also hate my DH’s name 😬 (it’s not Leslie)
